Since this arc has already ended, I guess it's okay to spoil (or rather, summarize):

Spoiler for Events summary and term explanations:

1. Hitagi suffered a well-known disease with an extremely low survival rate.
2. Her mom want her to be saved, so she joins a frantic religion.
3. Hitagi received a surgery and survived. Her mom believes she's survived because the frantic religion.
4. Hitagi never talks with her mom again.
5. Third year of junior high school, her mom violate the religion's doctrine, she offered her daughter to the leaders.
6. Hitagi managed to escape the rape attempt by the leaders but that cause her family to break down.
7. Hitagi meets the Crab, cutting the bond with her mom with her weight as compensation.

The reason Hitagi does not get dressed is probably because she want to show Koyomi her surgery traces along her back.

Term explanations:
Kani (蟹 Crab) → Kami (神 God)
Omoi (重い Weight) → Omoi (思い Feeling)
Omoshikani (重し蟹 Weight Crab) → Omoishigami (思いし神 Feeling God) → Omoi, Shigarami (思い、しがらみ Feeling and bonds)

From the Otona Anime interview, looks like they unable to get the rights to use some trademark or copyrighted name for the anime series, so many name-calling parody have to be removed. Oishi also said Mayoi Snail atmosphere will be very different from the first chapter, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Please remove the WTF Directions and do it properly, Shaft.

Thanks for the explanation, it helped fill in the gaps that my crappy Japanese ripped open by watching the raw. Damn SHAFT has some of the hardest shows to understand.

My speculation was way off, but the actual story was even better than I expected. Also the scene were Hitagi breaks down was excellent, both visually and audibly.

Yes, probably so. I did enjoy her as Becky in PaniPoni, and in her role in Zettai Shonen. But I didn't last very long with Gargoyle, Strike Witches, or Kemeko.

The main bad point for now is Shaft's overdone animation. Shaft's animation is entertaining and everything, but there is still a limit. Especially the "real-life" animation this episode... Egh... And it didn't stop there, but during a serious scene, stuff like the weird gag-like movements and that "pop" sound were just what... A cold gag?
Also, the animation along with the argument during the entire first half kind of ticked me off after a while...

The part where the story finally gets to the crab thing was interesting though. The Shaft animation here was also interesting.
But the problem is just this part of the episode was interesting...
The end with the weight thing was funny though.

...What was with the sudden (and creepy) character change of Hitagi at the end...
And who were the girls that suddenly appeared at the end...
Come to think of it, did the protagonist really do anything... Well, besides drag the girl around places.

Hmm... Well, as far as I've seen, it isn't bad, but I can't really say it is brilliant either. I guess I'll look forward to the next arc...

It's a shame you feel that way, because the second episode has abruptly shot this series up to my top pick of the season.

Granted, I'd still need subtitles to understand what was going on, but the gist of the story is clear enough: Senjogahara suffered some form of sexual abuse and lost her weight as a result of her trying to reject the trauma or sense of guilt (I've deliberately avoided the novel spoilers, so I probably got it wrong, no doubt).

But what really excited me was the clever camera direction and potent mix of visually exciting imagery with arousing sexual inneundo (and, yes, the OP staplers were placed in phallic positions in some instances, very likely deliberately). It tallies with the state of mind that Senjogahara might have been in — rape victims have been known to lapse into self-destructive behaviour out of the feeling of being "soiled". Half the episode was spent having her toying with Aragi, and the layered imagery of newspaper clippings together with "real-life" cut-outs added to the sense of disorientation, confusion and dangerous seduction.

To me, it produced a highly visceral experience that possibly approximates the kind of horror and trauma that Senjogahara might have been going through before she encountered the crab. I can understand why some people don't like it, but it's A+ storytelling to me, a strong case of "showing, rather than telling".

(And, let's face it, Senjogahara was indeed incredibly seductive. )

As for why she underwent the sudden change in personality, I gather it's something to do with the successful exorcism. It appears that she has resolved whatever trauma was troubling her and she was therefore genuinely thankful for Aragi's help.

Yeah everything seems to be translated except the running text at one point(must of not have been about the episode)(im almost half way threw the episode). Geez i had to stop like 15 times already to read the text

Thanks to that sub, finally got around to watching the first episode (though I have seen the second raw). Still has that Shaft style that I will probably never tire of, and the voice acting is nice all around.

Shaft has gone overboard and created massive epileptic seizures across the board with this new series. I shows a lot of promise, but I think I'll have to get another lasik operation after watching this series.

Seriously, they need to slow down with all the super fast changes every 1 and half seconds.

Other than that, this show appears entertaining. Let's hope it gets even better.

Ep 1

Oh Shinbo. What madness are you up to this time?

I've no idea where this one's going, which I generally see as a good thing after one ep. It's got that surreal feeling which is typical of Shinbo works, but there's also a decent amount of self-awareness, with that conversation about "moe" and what I'm pretty sure was a reference to FMA. I'm intrigued, but I'm not prepared to make a call on this yet.
