I know the reason behind the names. I said Allelujah's was justified which is why I forgive it, but HALlelujah? WHAT?! It took me forever to figure out the difference when I watched the RAW. I mean look at Jekyll and Hyde.

The innovator reason behind their names is still no excuse to stupid names. To be honest their names would sound a million times better if they were in Japanse. Because they can play around with the kanji, even something like Yuki can mean "snow" or "to have hope", and since it's their native language I'm sure they can come up with reasonable names. Not dumb shit like Revive Revival.

even in Gundam Wing, the main characters are named after NUMBERS from other languages.

well there is maybe a meaning of "F. Seiei" in Setsuna's code name...
Yes I've been a long time Gundam fan, so I've been suffering from poor names for a while now. But first of all names like Amuro Ray, Kai Shiden, w/e are fine because they're named after war machines during the WW2. It is only suitable to do that for the first real robot war anime.

Then shit like Quattro Bajina starts to get out of hand (yes I know it's his fourth alias hence Quattro, my main complaint is pussy for his last name).

Alright all of this is forgiven because it was back in the days. But for something like Gundam 00, a most recent reinvention for the Gundam franchise I would seriously expect them to give more effort in their names. Seriously hiring a simple college english major Japanese student would've sufficed for 'making sure names don't sound stupid'.

My complaint for the name Setsuna F Seie, isn't only becasue it sounds retarded, it is also too long for a codename. Which completely defeats the purpose of a codename. AND WHO THE HELL would use their codename as a civilian alias as well?! WHAT! That just gives you some easy tracking for the spies. Not to mention he's not Japanese, and I'm surprised Saji never doubted his name.

Some Chinese sources have deduced what Setsuna's name meant, and it seems really plausible.

Setunsa 剎那 which means "in the moment"
F which stands for "From"
Seie 聖永 which means "Forever Holy" (basically relates to the whole thing about angels, and Gundams being angels and saving Setsuna).

So his name basically roughly translates to "A moment within eternal glory". Which most probably relates to the middle eastern religious idea of becoming an angel. Which is also why he was obsessed about becoming a Gundam (for him that's the angel).

There mystery solved.

A codename is simply here to hide the identity of the person using it, even if most of the time they are shorter nothing say that it's obligatory (Longhorn / Vista). In the case of the meister their codename are also used as alias for their false identity, so it's normal that they look like normal name. (If Setsuna F Seie is long it's still shorter than Sumeragi Lee Noriega )

Setsuna using a Japanese name can simply mean that he has been adopted has a baby and if he speak fluently Japanese then there is nothing to doubt.

Yea but that already contradicts itself. Because!

Setsuna used his codename as a civilian alias. Which practically means he's connecting his civilian persona DIRECTLY to Celestial Being.

For a special agent who's fighting against the entire world you'd think he would be more careful. He should've just used his Kamalf alias that he used when he first met Marina, it's so much more practical and believable.

But NOOOO Setsuna F Seie!

Even if he's adopted no Japaense would have Setsuna F Seie as a name.

Don't even get me started on Full Frontal man...

Setsuna F. Seiei is an identity created to hide Soran Ibrahim from the other members of CB, for secrecy purpose inside CB, and has become Setsuna "true" identity.

So secret agent use their true name in their everyday life (Setsuna speaking with Saji) but use alias when going on mission (Kamalf).

This is the point the other guys is missing. CB operatives, pilots or not have their real identity conceal from each other, civilians don't really play a roll here since they rarely if ever get in contact with them. I mean if you live/work with a group where everybody uses code names I doubt you would question somebody's code name or what not.

Case in point, Setsuna and Lockon. They needed their names concealed from one another so Lockon wouldn't kill Setsuna.

"Quattro Vagina" before he was renamed "Bajina". It even showed up in a major Video Game release in full Engrish.

What were they thinking ?

No, I do get it, it seems like I'm not carrying my point across properly.

Setsuna is stated not as an alias but as a CODENAME. It should serve it's purpose as a codename. I never denied that it didn't. Lockon is a great codename because it serves its point as one, it is fast and to the point and it makes sense. When you're on a mission, you want something that you can blurt out fast and smooth without thinking.

Setsuna on the other hand wasn't only used as a codename it is also used as a civilian name (which is where the stupidity comes in). He used that name to buy an apartment next to Saji, which is why he introduced himself as Setsuna F Seie.

Now tell me. If you're trying to work secretly for a terrorist organization, would you be stupid enough to use the name that you go by in the organization as your common civilian name?

If you do that you're basically exposing the fact that you are related to Celestial Being out in the blue. You might say it doens't matter because no one found out, no one found out because the writers didn't write it that way. The second they get their hands on the name "Setsuna F Seie" they can hunt Setsuna down with a blink of an eye. If you're a Gundam Miester and you happen to have a brain you wouldn't leave such a big clue behind your tail for people to pull on.

Saji also said Setunsa F Seie was a really unique name, which is why he remembered. If you're working for a terrorist organization you don't use unique names because you want to blend into the crowd when you're off duty.

If you still don't understand what I'm saying then I don't know how to make things more clear.

There really is no way to justify the naming in Gundam 00, sure they have a point, sure they have a reason. Are they really justified? Probably not. Could they have done better? Hell yes.

The reason why code names are used in the battle field is because if commuincation between agents were to be intercepted by the enemy and that agent gave his real name it would make it easy 4 those who are listening to track that person down. But if he uses a code name then it would make him alot harder to track down.

Oh God.

Forget it, no body seems to understand what I'm saying.

I wasn't questioning the use of Codenames.

I was questioning the use of LONG codenames.
&
Mixing your codenames with your civilian aliases which means if enemies intercepted your communications, and they heard the name Setsuna F Seie, they know where to look for him because he bought an apartment right next to Saji with that name.

Am I clear now? I'm going to give up.

The codename are here to protect them from their fellow CB comrade not to protect them from the military. When they need to go undercover they will use a new codename.

You attach to much importance to the term "codename" in this case it's simply a new identity, their new everyday life identity.

And even knowing the name they wouldn't be able to track a meister because Veda hide them (even when under control of Ribbons).

Callsign need to be short, not codename.

An everyday identity, if you're working for a super powered world terrorist that everyone's trying to find and kill. You're going to try to fly under the radar wouldn't you? You would want a common name, instead he names himself Setsuna F Seie when he's middle eastern. Not a smart move no matter what because it puts unnecesary attention on yourself.

They relied on Veda and then it was hacked.

I mean they ended up alright because Aeolia's system managed to delete their names in time. But they should've been more careful.

I'm telling you that a new identity shouldn't link you back to your terrorist organization, or else it wouldn't serve its purpose as a new identity.

He should've used Kamalf as his civilian name, and Setsuna as his codename. Instead he used Setsuna as both his civilian and his codename (which puts him in danger, but the Anime ignored it), and used Kamalf as a one time thing.

Forget it, let's not discuss about this anymore. There isn't a point for me to prove it anymore, it doesn't seem like anyone here agrees with me.

No matter how hard you try to convince me their names are justified I still think they are ridiculous.
