Why would they translate it to Shannon anyway? Shouldn't it be sister?

I agree. If the subbers want to drop the "-san"s and "-sempai"s, fine. But they could at least make nee-san= sis lol too much Carl for me instead of Shannon... or something.

Im finally starting to see how Beatrice is trying to get Battler to knowledge her existence. I must admit its pretty convincing and not only that she is making it easy for him to admit it. Technically yes it would be torture for him to keep reliving certain events over and over. But Beatrice has almost as much to lose as Butler does and as weve seen Battler is quite stubborn. I could be talking to someone but technically i never have to acknowledge that they exist in order to have a conversation if my brain fails to acknowledge that Beatrice exist does that make it real or is her existence something i cant understand so i say it does not exist in order to cope with something i dont fully know. The way Shannon handled Beatrice this time around is exactly what i would have done.

Now im going to start searching for ways that a human could have committed the crimes. However how can Beatrice convince Battler that it was all because of magic if i continue to deny magic exist my brain will eventually see it as something harmful and take measures to protect itself. For the first time i believe Battler can win but shit is it going to hard. The good thing is Battler does not have to figure out who the murder is just how the murders were done

both sides are going for numerous re-matches. All Battler has to do is to find a hole in Beatrice's claim since her argument for her existence on the island is that "it's IMPOSSIBLE to be done by human", not directly showing that she DID exist in the original world. She can show all the worlds she like with she altering the factors by placing herself there, however, with the factors changed it's no longer the same scenario as the original. Therefore what seems to be Beatrice's advantage is actually weaker.

just like in Watanagashi-hen of higurashi we see mion as a killer doesn't necessarily mean that she was one in Onikakushi-hen, simply because the situations have totally changed.

my verdict is still simple. It's impossible for Battler to lose if he can stand the so-called "torture". If he shares the same mentality like I'd stated previously he will feel a little bit more detached to those involved the new world.

They can still turn up the volume though, it almost feels as if the BGMs aren't there in the anime.

I watch the episodes with headphones on, and it makes it easier to hear the music. I thought the only one that was really hard to hear (even with the headphones) was that remix of system0.

Personally I always thought that Battler has an advantage in this game, but Beatrice has also her own advantage.

In other words. Beatrice has a complete knowledge of the game board, while Battler not only doesn't know anything, he doesn't even know the rules. Which mean, if this was a one-shot game, you could say that Battler has zero chances to win. However the game can go on indefinitely as long as Battler does not acknowledge witches. Basically Beatrice's victory condition is completely under Battler's control. The opposite isn't true, because Battler can win whether Beatrice wants it or not. For Battler is a matter of willpower, for Beatrice the game is more dangerous.

In such situation the endless prospective goes all to Battler's advantage and none to Beatrice's advantage. Because Beatrice's own advantage is knowledge, and the more Battler plays the game the more he's going to gain knowledge thus eating little by little Beatrice's advantage.

Considering this, a cautious and patient approach imho would be the most intelligent strategy to adopt in such situation. The mindset of a fisherman is that what one would need to win this game, provided he can count on an endless time span. And of course the main purpose should be to gather knowledge at this point and not to stubbornly try to win a game whose rules aren't even known.

I just can't believe that there's someone who thinks Battler should rather rush for the victory and only focus on victory.

Just curious, do they ever reveal why maria keeps going " uuu Uuu UUU~~" and why her mom's such a maniacal bi-polar cutie-pie?

Lol I don't think Rosa is bipolar, I mean she never happens to be "over the top". But yes often becomes a crazy bitch only to feel extremely guilty afterward.

As fot the "uu-uu". Now maybe someone would disagree with it, but imho it is simply said how and why she started it.

It is more of an ossessive-compulsive ritualistic behavior imho. It isn't very rare expecially on very young children. But Rosa is kinda right. It might normal for a 4 year old kid but not for a 9 year old.

But then it goes on and on and on again. I don't believe her becoming remorseful for her actions because I know she'll do it again (and I think she hurts Maria on a regular basis OVER THE SMALLEST THINGS for that matter!!! That's why I hate Rosa soooooo much!). She even hit Maria multiple times JUST for accepting candy from a kindly old lady! I don't think Rosa's fit to be a mother considering her actions!

In Rosa's defense (and yes yes, I know there's never an excuse, yadda yada) ,but in the original sound novels, Maria was being a HUGE brat on the train. No matter how much Rosa told her/begged her to stop.
And also, originally, Rosa didn't start smackin' her until they were OFF the train. And then pretty much immediately came to regret it (which is why Maria has the candies she begged for later on.)

Rosa gets a lot of flack with people, and is hated by a lot, but I can't help it, I really like the character. I feel bad for both her and Maria.

She hit her on the train too in the SN. But not for long because the cold stares made her stop.

Rosa has no excuse. The woman is imbalanced; if you've played all of the VN then you should know that. I had sympathy for her at first, but it died eventually. I think she could change, but I don't think she wants to. She's a selfish person, essentially.

I don't thin it's such a big deal to discipline your childs, better than them being annoying brats all their life.

And leaving it as "kantoku" also has the disadvantage of cuing the audience that there is something significant about this word, whereas in the Japanese, it would have just been another word.

Long story short, translators have to make choices and there's never one hard and fast rule about how it should be done.

That said, I try as much as possible to make my translations self-contained. I assume as little as possible about my audience, which means assuming that they don't know what "-sama" or whatever mean. If I have to add a translator's note a month down the line, I believe history will absolve me.

Ehhh... I don't think child abuse stops kids from being brats. There are just certain ways to raise certain kids, I doubt giving them deep emotional scars and mental issues is "proper" at all, in any situation. They're kids, the one who should know better is the adult left in charge of them.

Satoko became a kind person because of the hardships she went through... however, with her brother and parents she became a bit spoiled. Neither are ideal, there has to be a good balance between them where she gets to keep her family AND still be a kind person.

The same goes for Maria, she isn't a horrible child, she just needs a different method of being raised. Up until this point hitting her hasn't worked, so why would it end up working when she's finally an adult? Rosa can't keep this up, she should've stopped long ago. (She shouldn't have even started actually... slapping your child THAT violently is just terrible, some kids need a spanking, but what she does is crossing the line. ^^; )

The thing is, Rosa beats Maria because she was beaten herself as a child. It hasn't made her a better person, or a happier one. Parents who beat children are just too incompetent to properly parent them.
