About External HDD

I have a Iomega 500gig and recently i have been seeing the activity light flickering and when im not even accessing it and i turn it off its gives a yellow balloon that says *write something error* and it lists a file i haven't accessed in months.

is it updating the info or something it really annoying and worriesome.

What you are having is Delayed Write Errors in Windows. This happens because the "Enable write caching on the disk" is turned on.

To turn it off, just go to the Device Manager and click on the Iomega HD under Hard Drives. Right click and press Properties. Then go to Policies and clear the "Enable write caching on the disk" check box and press OK.
