Monologue

That's all that really needs to be said, though it's already been previously stated, I have simplified it into one lazy word...

As aforementioned, such dramatic speeches by a character actually is found in a lot of Western writings, many of which predate the earliest manga by many years, though at the same time it doesn't necessarily have to be "inner thought" per-se, but still none-the-less a literary or dramatic device in which the character reveals his/her thoughts to the audience in one form or another, and even then, "inner thoughts" would still be a special type of internal monologue...It's merely just a dramatic media device used to "share" the character's thoughts to the audience without the character giving his thoughts in to other in-story characters, at least that's the way I see it...I don't see why it needs to be psychologically analyzed when applied to anime...

The short version:

Japan thinks talking (and thinking) is a free action.

Tolkien was prone to godawful spats of purple prose, and he's not the only one. Clancy does it just as bad, if not worse, since the only ones who appreciate his purple prose are military nuts.
