Though from reading some of the quote here most people seems to watch lot of hentai involving rape .
Many of us find that non-anime people often don't or are unable to distinguish between hentai and the rest of anime --- they just wave their arms a lot at the "cartoons with big eyes and stuff". Hence the concern.
Personally, I think hentai is stupid and boring but meh whatever.

There's also the issue that they're using resources to berate things that are totally imaginary, fantasy, things that in written books they don't bat an eye at but animated drives them nuts.... in other words, things with no relationship to real exploitation of real women and children. Given the *real*problems in Europe, America, and Asia along those lines - it is simply a waste of resources and could be disingenuous to go beat up Japan for animated drawings no matter what the content.

Plus, the UN are pretty much toothless at this rate. If not even them and PETA (which has even moar than feminazis) put together can stop whale hunting or if it takes em' like 6 years to stop a conflict in Africa they could have done so in like 1 year or even way less if they've taken better action, what difference will this make?

No offense but a lot of you guys are just grinding on a lot of shit to grind or complain or get down on. Everywhere I go, 'IT'S ALWAYS ANIMU AND JAPOOOON WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS I WANT MY ANIMUUU HENTIE-DESU" comments make a big storm into discussions that should be logical. Censorship is everywhere, and it targets anything, not just your animu raipu games or whatever a lot of people cry about yet our lives still go on.

There are a lot of things besides japanisu vidya games that get targetted for ban and a lot of us dont even know it.

The whole thing never bothered me at all anyways.

While we can all agree that hentai and porn are morally lessening the mentality of people, the problem lies with U.N.'s inability to follow the people's "hierarchy of needs". Yes, the U.N. is definitely not using "much" of their efforts and resources on this subject(a bit suspicious IMO) but why feed the slightly hungry adult a "raisin" when there's a starving child in front of you? My point is...ALL, not just some of their efforts, must be contributed to greater causes---following needs of hierarchy.

Though like I said before it is only a statement that urges Japan to do something, I don't think they are probably using little to no resource for a single statement. And some people are talking as a single news article from an anime news site means UN is prioritizing this issue over every other issues.

So now you want the "Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women" to solve hunger issues? Or now you are saying to get rid off that? There are tons of issues that are need to solve and there is no universal hierarchy of problem and issues. And like I said before it is a only a freaking statement it isn't like UN is prioritizing this issue over everything else.

One question, do you consider ecchi and hentai the same?

No.
One might argue that hentai is a subset of ecchi but generally ecchi is just sensual, erotic nudity, sex, or sexual situations - it might even include love-making in a romantic setting.
Hentai is specifically "unusual" sex or what might be considered perverted, fringe, etc. (land of tentacles, violence, bondage, etc).

If you assume that the availability of porn causes the creation of pervs, it's not necessarily a bad idea to go for the source. (Of course, you have to question such an assumption.)

I think it would be better if they deal with issues in a "one by one" pattern---meaning an increased rate of things getting done. But I do understand the complexity of the U.N.'s organization and the difference of each nation's needs so who am I to say anything---that said, that's my opinion.

Yes there's none but I think it'd be best to just define it more as depending on majority. In other words, when unsupported, most of the people in the world would probably look for food and shelter(something related to their survival) as oppose to looking for a way to improving society by definition of their own morality.

Like I said as well, focus should be fully concentrated on priority---war, food and shelter.

Exactly.... an assertion that'd be ripped up pretty easily by any debate team

Hatoyama not likely to change US-Japan alliance

Quote:
Giving a glimpse of his views to an American audience, Hatoyama wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times last week.

"As a result of the failure of the Iraq war and the financial crisis, the era of U.S.-led globalism is coming to an end," Hatoyama wrote. But he also predicted that the United States, though declining in influence, "will remain the world's leading military and economic power for the next two to three decades."

He also said that he would not seek radical change in Japan's foreign policy, and the U.S.-Japan alliance would "continue to be the cornerstone of Japanese diplomatic policy."

"It was one thing for the opposition party to take opportunistic partisan shots at the (current Japanese) government for supporting the United States in the war on terror or paying for U.S. bases, but it is quite another to put the alliance at risk when in power," Michael Green, a White House Asia adviser during the George W. Bush administration, said in an interview posted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank, where he is an analyst.

But Green said a DPJ victory could cause confusion in Washington and Tokyo "as the DPJ decides what it actually stands for in power."

Japanese analysts agreed that uncertainty is likely to remain for the time being because the DPJ's own lawmakers are unclear about what direction Japan should take on defense issues. Some DPJ conservatives want close military ties with the United States; another faction wants a more independent role for Japanese forces.

"National security is a major issue that the Democrats will have to sort out," said Takao Toshikawa, an independent political analyst. "It will be a major challenge for them to build a good relationship with the U.S. while reaching party consensus and gaining public support at the same time."

Actually, Marvel has already turned Spider-Man into a Broadway musical, with music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge.

Well, I suppose we could still get Snow White to star in it...

Typhoon brings heavy wind, rain to eastern Japan

Quote:
TOKYO — Japan's weather agency issued storm and flood warnings Monday as a typhoon approached the east of the country bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Tokyo and the Pacific coast.

Typhoon Krovanh was expected to move closer to the mainland during the day before tracking north along the east coast through Tuesday, packing gusts of up to 144 kilometers (90 miles) per hour, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

As of 9:00 am (0000 GMT), the storm was 110 kilometers (70 miles) east southeast of the island of Miyakojima, south of Tokyo.

It was moving north northeast at a speed of 35 kilometers (22 miles) per hour, the agency said.

The weather agency issued warnings and advisories for floods, heavy rain, gales and high waves, for Tokyo and nearby areas.
For those being superstituous, this is actually not a good sign as that Japan just have a historical change of a government. On the contrary, there was also heavy rain on the day Barack Obama taken the reins of the government in the United States and he seems to be doing quite a good job.

Scientifically, this is just bad weather which cannot be prevented and perhaps, it has something to do with global warming as that the rainy season should be over by now.

For a moment, I thought this is for serious..

The fact that the Marvel series are going to get anime adaptations, I don't see why not as in Disney coming up with their own versions for American kids. However, I don't think Disney plans on pulling off something like that but more like.. Perhaps, rewrite the Marvel stories to suit a general audience, particularly those in elementary school.
