Recommend me an anime.
I enjoy "intelligent" anime, not so much action-action-action all of the time.
I'm looking for an anime to watch that's like the following:
I'd like action, but mixed in with surprises and strategy. I loved Code Geass for it's ability to give us some pretty neat scenarios with Geass. I loved Death Note because of the ability to use the Death Note in clever ways. I loved Blood+ because of the story... I loved Wolf's Rain because of the character development Can anyone make recommendations? |

If you think Code Geass and Death Note are great examples of intelligent series then Legend of the Galactic Heroes will prove you wrong so I definitly recommend you check that series out like roriconfan suggested. I'm not saying CG or DN are bad (i watched and liked them) but when it comes to intelligence LotGH is on a whole new level.
Other intelligent series I would suggest to you are: Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars I,II and III (Banner continious the story from Crest) Guin Saga Ghost Hunt Mushishi The Twelve Kingdoms (boring begining (fist 6 episodes or so) but gets alot more interesting as it goes on) Hikaru no Go (lots of character development over 70+ episodes, yes its about a board game that mostly old man play but they managed to make it more interesting then half the action series I saw) |

I would recommend Fullmetal Alchemist. (I'd probably go ahead and watch the first anime adaptation, wait on watching Brotherhood until later)
Others that might match with your interests would be: Full Metal Panic (includes comedy and romance, plus lots of discussion of tactics) Read or Die Chrono Crusade Soul Eater (A little on the wacky side at times, but certainly fun) Those would be the main ones I would suggest you check out. If you would like to consider trying something outside the "action" type genre I'd suggest you try: Cross Game Very good character development The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Lots of plot twists... known for messing with viewers heads. Also occasionally it does have little bits of action, and when it does it quite nice... Spoiler for Plot Twist:
