Considering the history of the devil fruits, your argument sounds fine, but to the point of having already found it at some distant past. But we don't know, if anyone had the courage to try that. It is not like God sent a booklet on how to use the abilities. People found that, tried them, used them, and recorded them so the next generation can take advantage of that information.

For that to happen, you need to have a genius like Vegapunk finding it and trying it with other devil fruit abilities, very very low possibility. Or a courageous person. Or a exremely ambitious person to the point of rising everything on one try. And these extreme behaviours need to meet up with that special ability, which may have the least likelihood of being found.

In short, the possibility is there. And the suggestions made in the story so far are not strong enough to turn that automatically to a loophole.

Yeah, that's always a problem. A series like Naruto or One Piece that has a large cast of characters that are never seen can get quite tiresome, but, then again, a series with a large cast of character that are often seen, but hold little actual interest (Negima or Bleach, for example) can be just as annoying. It is definitely a thin line that the author has to walk, between having the audience hold interest with a select group of characters without wondering what is happening to all the other characters introduced, and showing a large cast of characters but making all of them interesting.

You shouldn't trust those hints of his. He said the same thing after both the Skypeia arc and Water 7/Enies Lobby arc, so yeah. Oda is not very good at approximating how long something will take

. Are we past half way in the story? He himself is not even too sure about that.

Unless One Piece first part ends and there will be small time skip and second part of One Piece starts...pretty much only plausible way to 'end' OP now...

But I guess OM staffs are just throwing wild quests...

It makes me worried that so many great mysteries has been solved in just one arc like Crew Whitebeard's powers and Akainu/Kizaru.Dragon may jump into this anytime and Blackbeard may get himself a Pluton/Poseidon soon...
But at least Luffy still has to make his way to Raftel to achieve his main goal and he will never make his way to Raftel in such short time.I cant see the end of OP so far, Instead we may get some new BB,WB,Dragon style power bosses for this other side of world soon.Maybe that guy with eye patch Oda promised...

Actually it was more worrying that we didn't have a clue about them at all until now,it was about time to introduce their powers/style,because i take it as a hint that the crew will be getting some major power-ups soon,and it's time to get into serious battles.

And so far,not much has been revealed,a couple of devil fruits and that's all,what we have seen is just fighting...
