It's still strange. Nobel Prizes aren't normally given out for something done without deliberately doing so. It seems to me that they gave him the prize because they had no one else to give it to. Sure, he's done a lot of good deeds for the world, but he hasn't actually ACHIEVED any results yet. He's been actively trying, but the final results of his actions haven't been really showing yet.

Also notice how the translator seems to be getting emotional there

They had 200 or so other candidates for the Nobel peace prize. This is a load of shit if you ask me.

He didn't deliberately do the greater achievement but he did the lesser deliberate achievements. Low actions and High achievement + High Action and Low achievement. You *could* try canceling the lows. I don't know if they did something like this but yeah...the *association* could just be looking for media attention.

Since I'm quite a fan, I'd like to think that he deserved it. Either way, I believe that he'll deserve several of those sooner of later.

I've yet to see any convincing "achievement" and any praise for his politics, including that of the committee makes sense only in context, and that context is called GWB. Obama is in a very comfortable position not because he's at the top but because the only way is up. He can go into a restaurant and order a steak and people will cheer for him just because they know Bush would have bitten the waiter instead.

Its not as comfortable as you think it is. He's representing as the first ever minority president. And because of the many suspicion left by the Bush administration on that "seat", I'd say it'd only get "tighter" for the guy. To add to that, he's expected to fix nearly impossible problems and model "perfectness". I'm pretty sure that's a lot of pressure.

Do you guys remember the good old days when you had to actually do something to win the Nobel Prize, not just intend to do it?

I think the award says that Bush/Cheney(McCain/Palin) set the bar so low that almost anyone would look golden as a consequence.

I'd have preferred any awarding wait until we'd dealt with our Iraq and Afghanistan conundrums though.... Obama himself seems rather perplexed at the award.

And that justifies this... how?

The fact of the matter is that he has yet to actually accomplish anything truly substantial, and he's the Commander in Chief of a nation involved in two wars. If he accomplished his goals and wins the prize in a few years, I'd applaud the man. But as things are now...

People should be judged on their actions, not their intentions.

How can someone receive the 2009 Nobel peace prize when he achieved nothing ?

It's interesting that he wins the Peace Prize... then immediately bombs the moon.

Okay he won the Noble Peace Prize. Now does anyone want to tell me what he won it for?

That's why he won the nobel peace prize. Obama defeated the Greys on the moon, which will seriously damage their ability to project power in earth orbit. Now with their base on the moon destroyed, they need to launch their abduction missions from their next closest base on Mars, and can't keep a fighter escort do to the lack of ftl drives on their lighter craft. This means their abduction saucers will have to go in unprotected, a risky proposition now that earth's 5th generation fighters are entering service for atmospheric combat, and there are the secret space fighters too of course. They'd both be ripped apart by the grey's fighters obviously, but they're easily able to handle the lightly armed abduction craft. Thanks to Obama's bold step humanity has achieved air superiority and space superiority out past lunar orbit for the first time since the greys arrived. This is a huge victory and might finally bring the greys back to the negotiation table now that the tide is turning against them. They know full well that humanity's technological development is outpacing their own and within a few decades we'll be able to retake the entire solar system, especially now that we can start developing our space infrastructure without fear of the grey's fighters blowing it up. Their only other option is full scale invasion, but that risks diverting their forces from their war with the insectoids.

Seriously though, if Obama succeeds in some of his goals, like nuclear disarmament, he definately would deserve the nobel peace prize. But they should have at least waited to see how things work out. Obama has a lot of his plate, so they should have at least waited to see how things went.

But seriously now, I for one don't see this coming. Neither does Obama, I'd think. o_0 I mean, I get it, everybody loves Obama (except for you neanderthals and minutemen types, all curiously concentrated in Jesusland :P), but they should at least wait until he succeeds in something big before, you know, giving him a freaking Nobel.

I voted for Obama, I like Obama but this is ridiculous. Surely there was someone more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. You know someone who has done more then just talked.

obama is president not superman, not a chance that will happen, maybe just a small reduction were he putin can stand on the podium and pat each other on the back and take some nice pictures.

He does deserve a prize (maybe not the peace prize) if he can get the US out of iraq and afghanistan intact and not collaspe like the soviets.

Honestly? I hate to be cynical, but I kind of expect this "award" to be a strong arm political tactic in order to sway Obama or at least try to force him to act in a certain manner. Who is trying to sway him? I have no idea (the "Europeans" (I use this word partially in jest, since many conservative comentators like to lump everyone from Europe together (and they also use the word as a slur...somehow))...but that sounds like too much of a conspiracy theory.). That being said, it will obviously hurt Obama's reputation if he receives a Peace Prize and then starts attacking foreign nations (or escalates the violence in currently occupied nations).

Hence why he'd definately deserve it if he were to somehow succeed there.

Not really a minority when it's thanks to that "minority" that he became president. The fact that he was elected is proof enough that the black community in the USA has quite enough power to turn the tables for anyone in the presidential election. If their collective voice can be heard to that extent, I wouldn't consider it a minority.

I agree. Obama, up until now, hasn't achieved anything tangible. He intends to achieve certain things but he hasn't done anything just yet. Like I said, it looks to me like they gave the prize to him out of lack of anyone else to give it to.
