These headphones are, frankly, beginning to frighten me a little, and until I know more about what exactly they’re doing to me, I should stop listening to them.

Besides, who wants to just sit around and listen to music? It’s the weekend, the glorious weekend at last, and I should do something productive.

Of course, I say that, but I’ll probably just sit at home reading manga again.

I remember that I have to call someone. I’ll need to discuss the strange events of the past week, and I can bring up these headphones too. Something is obviously going on, and despite my misgivings about getting into bad situations, I have to get to the bottom of it.

…But I don’t want to spend too much time on the phone. Too much information on a weekend will kill my brain cells.

…Nor do I want to spend too much time getting my ear talked at until it falls off, so I probably shouldn’t call Koizumi. Of course, I’d hardly get any information at all if I called Nagato… or my ear would fall off from that, too. It seems to depend of the severity of the situation.

Ah! I could call Asahina-san! She did mention something about a temporal distortion occurring, didn’t she? Maybe she’ll know something. Hearing Asahina-san’s beautiful, melodic voice would be infinitely preferable to only having one ear for the rest of my life.

Haruhi put on a strange falsetto, obviously trying to imitate Asahina-san.

Nagato obviously knows something, and she’s hiding it from me. If that intruder we were chasing on Thursday was one of her people, then… what does that mean?

…Besides, I’m still worried about her mental state, what with that ‘game’ she created… at my request. If she doesn’t want to tell me, I shouldn’t push her too far…

Her phone picks up, but there’s no response other than the faint sound of breathing.


Kyon: Hey, Nagato?


Breathing.


Kyon: I wanted to ask… uh, there’s been quite a few strange things going on the past week, don’t you think?

I don’t doubt that there’s more going on than what I’m going to ask her, but we’ll start with this.


Kyon: Specifically, that intruder we chased… he was another, um, Humanoid Interface, right?

Yuki: …Yes.

Kyon: What was he doing that made you want to take him down? …Why were we chasing him in the first place? …And why did you really need me?


Nothing happens by coincidence. It’s starting to become a motto of mine. If everything is interconnected, the dreams, the presences like ghosts, the temporal distortions, the transfer students, these headphones… this has to be one of the more important ones, just judging by the sheer amount of attention that Interface drew to himself.

And this is why I’m grilling Nagato. Dependable, yet fragile Nagato.

I’ll have to ask for your forgiveness later.


Yuki: …It was determined that one of the intruders would be a personal danger to you.

Kyon: So I’m being targeted again by— wait. One of the intruders?


I forgot she had mentioned that there were more than one… Now that she mentions it, he did seem to be carrying something… and Haruhi had said something about that too.

Kyon: …Actually, I’ve been wondering. The name ‘intruders’… what are they intruding on?

Yuki: ……I cannot say.

Yuki: I have been ordered to restrict all transmission of such information.


…Ah. It’s something I’m clearly not allowed to know, then. Fair enough, if Nagato’s bosses don’t want her to tell me, then it probably isn’t that important to me.

I got the feeling that Nagato was offended.

Yuki: …They are intruders from another world.

Something Nagato said, something that I dismissed as mere technobabble comes back to me.

…I’m beginning to see what could be going on. But somehow, something tells me I shouldn’t pry further into this.

Now that he mentions it, I did get an impression like that… but isn't that a little too convenient?! And what's with that suspicious name?


Kyon: Sigh... and, of course, she’s also…

Itsuki: One of us, yes.

Kyon: Planning to get on Haruhi’s good side by find a new recruit for the SOS Brigade?

Itsuki: Well… we’ll have to see, won’t we? Anyway, all your misgivings and strange things you have noticed are now explained in a perfectly reasonable manner, am I not wrong?


Does he have to sound so suspicious? And why did he immediately assume I was talking about ‘Yamada’?

This don't seen right to me. The problem with Nagato is she gives too much information when starts talking, and it is hard to understand. Even if she stays quiet like in tha scene, Kyon usually just need to ask. It is more like too "information too hard to understand" then "no information at all".

Similar to Nagato's conversation, I wonder how this will effect Nagato's and Mikuru's Route. Well, it is not as big as Nagato's revelation. But shouldn't Kyon mention that having two cousins of the same age and so similar names is a bit weird? This actually happen in my family, and people comment on spot.

Also, I really like your Itsuki here. He seens pretty evil-ish

As Heatth suggests, I would think that Kyon would be more skeptical of Itsuki's pronouncement and perhaps say something along the line of "how convenient" or something like that.

Telling Haruhi that might be a bad idea, actually. She'd probably get offended in some way, and then there would be punishment on Monday.

Placating her is always the best idea.

It's like having a time bomb duct-taped to your hands, except that instead of being timed, it explodes whenever you so much as look at another time bomb in a sexual manner, whenever you deflate its ego, or whenever you don't listen to its inane commands.
