Yeah, while I based my original character idea off Project F and memory transplanting, Ein goes and completely runs against scientific knowledge about it. And let's not go into how Ix completely flattens my understanding of medical practice in canon.

Having canon clear the way for oh so many fandoms is really... cool, in a facepalming sense, the kind you get while long-time rebels against "common sense" are firing AK-47s of joy in the background.

What do you mean about Syn? That she's an old King brought to the future? Or has memories of an old King? The set-up I had for the group was that Syn was the only one of the 4 Kings (Ix, Syn, Vi+Stella and Ein) who wasn't related to any previous kings.

The idea that's currently toying in my head is that Syn is a descendant of the Carter line. While the blood has thinned, a remnant remains and is present strongly in Syn, explaining her one blue eye. While she doesn't inherit direct memories a-la Ingvalt, the oath Alistina swore to Olivie burns strong in her blood.

I'm still working out the details beyond that, still debating how much Syn would inherit from her ancestor.

It'd also make Syn royalty in a somewhat less conventional way. A noble descendant instead of direct Belkan royalty.

I see. Yes with the new data, this certainly is viable.

And good thing about Einhart's DNA memory; had canon done it in a more traditional way, Karlheim's being a Project F remake of Hades would've been taken. Prior to Hades mention in canon, I had an OC in that role. There's no need for that OC any more, and I'm glad to keep the plot twist in spirit.

And if you are surprised, well, think about Kia's profile. How would a woman like her even consider getting married and having a child, except just to further that grand plan of hers? Using Project F and every other technology available to her and then some to create the ultimate pawn that no one noticed... it's all just the Scrapped Princess at work.

Though in Karl's defence, even though the Plan has occured as written, he's more or less completely messed up the essence of it by 0079.

Though I don't think it'll make you guys change anything, but have you considered the possibility that Ingvalt's memory transfer thing is a Royal Familiy Inherent Skill like the Saint Kiing's Saint Armor?
After all, not everyone can have the memories of a long-ago person the way Einhart does.

It was… carnage, to say the least. Dust that littered all over the surface of whatever was left of the outpost’s exterior. Heck, there were even uncrumbled ashes of the creatures that were destroyed, the last vestiges of what they once were.

A young boy of what seemed to be about ten was wandering about, dressed in an orange windbreaker and a pair of black pants and carrying some sort of large cylindrical rod wrapped in white cloth.


“So much dissonance... So much suffering. This is the worst I have seen since the Unification Wars…” The boy mused. “One has died here, at the very least... Her Score still echoes, but it is already completed- she died nobly and fulfilled- she knew. And now...”


Something interrupted his thought, another prescience was nearby- behind a crumbled wall about a meter from him. He looked at the wall and motioned for someone or anything to come out.


"Oh, it seems that we have someone here as well."


A cloaked man stepped away from the wall, his face obscured by the covering shadows.


"Yeah... And who might you be?"

“I am just... a person who manages a ceremony of cleansing,” the kid introduced himself, looking back at the ruin once again. “Some refer to me as Khamsin. Names bear no meaning to me. As you can see, this place has undergone some rough time. Or, to put in the words of people these days… This place’s gone through some pretty tough shit.”


Somehow the man was unsure of how to deal with him.


“I see. Well then, go ahead. I believe there is a family that wants a loving mother and wife to be returned to them... I must find her body and allow them to mourn.” the cloaked man replied, now starting to rummage thru the ruins.

“I see as well,” the boy Khamsin replied awkwardly as well. “Ever wonder what happened here?”

“I was watching. A TSAB force was protecting this place from some bunch of weird bioengineered creatures or something. Well, not so much of bunch than torrents of them, but yeah I wanted to assist them, but given my current situation…”


Just then, a quivering pile of rubble collapsed, revealing an almost-dead Orphenoch that survived the blast. The cloaked man quickly leapt into action, taking out what seemed to be a deck of cards but he got stayed off.


“There is no need to set up your device,” Khamsin announces as he approaches the creature. “I see… The inclusion of a series of distortions… is this what the Coders call a virus? Even so, something of this level, I doubt even they can do anything more than we can at this stage…”


The man observed, curious- as if this kid was not even one. Khamsin soon stopped his musings, and the man watched as he unloaded the unknown wrapped cylindrical object from his back and unwrapped it, revealing a large metallic rod that he placed before him. The Orphenoch suddenly charged towards him but was stopped by the rod that was now pointed towards him- earning disbelief from the man- from his view, the rod was an impossible thing for him to lift, yet this... kid simply heaved it like it were some twig.


“Qadesh’s Heart…” Khamsin then said solemnly, “Activate.”


The area began to glow, and as it happen, the man began to see what seemed to be music, and could also felt the glow on his skin. Looking back at the Orphenoch, he saw the creature slowly changing back to the entity it once was. The menacing creature simply faded into nothing with a screeching sound, and the almost dead man that replaced/came out of it simply slumped to the ground, his breathing almost no-existent now.


“It is done now,” Khamsin then said, as he began to wrap his iron pillar. “At least he can now die as a human.”

“I have no idea what you just did,” the man could only say in awe. “But you are merciful. Most of the creatures that came here were simply destroyed without any regard.”

“It is my duty to Tune out Distortions,” Khamsin replied simply. “And there are still a lot more to fix in this place. Now, if I am not bothering you, may I ask as to what you are doing here again?"

"Me? Like I said, I'm here to help find closure." The man replied again. "I'm pretty certain the body's blown to bits already, but at least some remnant of her device should still be lying around... I'd bet it's near the corpse- if any of her still remain that is. Say, this Tuning thing.... Are you able to find where she is?”

“Ahhh, I hear only the echoes of her life. All I can do is listen to that child’s swansong post-mortem.”

“Well then,” The man says, trying his luck as well as trying to be confused with that musing. “If it’s possible, does it tell you where the body is?”

“Hmph, don’t underestimate us Tuners, kid,” Khamsin says, a confident smirk plastered on his face now, as though he enjoyed the idea of showing off to an ignorant child. “And more importantly, don’t underestimate what I can do.”


The man seemed to feel a bit indignant about that statement. He was about to voice his opinion on the matter when Khamsin pointed at the bottom of the pile of rubble they were on right now.


“It is there. The Tune is faint, but it is broadcasting nonetheless. For now, in any case.”

"Thanks." The man nodded, moving carefully as to not lose his footing and/or in the process, probably compromise the stability of the literal mountain of rubble that they were on.

“Move aside, with me doing it, it’ll be faster excavating the body.” Khamsin warned a few seconds later.


The man had barely enough time to jump aside as the rubble of concrete and metal formed a sort of trough. He managed to get a grip but it failed him moments later, sending him sliding down to the bottom, and making it sore for him as well. He barely got out a grunt of discomfort when Khamsin slid down as well- and on his feet, using his now-wrapped pole as a brake. He then pointed the still wrapped pole at the place where the bottom of the trough was and again, the rubble shifted, this time forming a tunnel small enough for one to crawl in.


"Somewhere in there. But I have my doubts if you can still pull out something."

"I need to do it... for them..."

Spoiler for In the Meantime:

Meanwhile, we turn ourselves over to other, seemingly unrelated groups of people, in what seemed to be a "town" beside a river. There were crates upon crates of equipment, all of them with the label "Reclamation" on it- denoting that not just this location, but the planet was currently being worked on by the Reclamation Utilities Commission or RUC as it is known- a branch of the Ordered Space Government that deals with reclaiming habitable planets lost by any order of catastrophe, human, natural or artifact.

But not all of them are from Reclamation. A groups of mages from the Bureau were called in a week prior due to the RUC discovering several artifacts in locations around the planet, most of them presumed to be dangerous and of the Lost Logia variety. Among these groups was a small detachment from the Second Fleet's Elite Recon group, Magiforce Assault Recon - Zeta- MARZ as it was known. But now, all the artifacts were taken out, and the ruins secured, allowing the RUC to conduct its job safely and quickly- and leaving the remaining Bureau forces with one thing to do- pack up and leave.

A lone figure emerged from the the central building, with signs of both stress and relief on his youthful face, signs that are appropriate considering what he was wearing at that moment- a Naval Lieutenant's Uniform. He was Hazu Mertens, the overall head of the MARZ as well as the detachment that was on site at the moment. He stopped to yawn a deep one before heading to the neighboring building, which housed one of three mess halls on site- this hall was special for the fact that asides from the usual (free) offerings, one can order other dishes that are given to you freshly cooked- for a price.


"What will it be?" the head cook of the hall asked as he entered, usual practice.

"Just a chair for now please."

"Be my guest."


And off he went, placing himself at an empty table. It was lively at the moment, most of the remaining Bureau personnel, among them members of his detachment, were having a wonderful lunch time, seeing that today was the day before they all left for home- and for him, a day before he can take a leave he so badly needed- as per recommendations. As he was settling down, another figure approached him and placed a tray before and to his right- revealing herself as she faced him and sat down.


"Karistrial..." Hazu simply greeted and tuned back to his silent musing.

"I have a name Sir... it would be Ellen Karistrial."


No response from the lieutenant- it was sometimes like this with him, always too silent- a total opposite of his usual optimistic self.


"Quite lively isn't it?" he then asked. "Just look at them. Most of them are in their first mission."

"I agree with their liveliness, and as such, I am against your gloominess Sir."

"Yeah... I've been working too hard again, and add the fact that the workplace Shiina's sister worked in was attacked."

"Is Airi alright?"

"Yeah, she got trapped but okay. Shiina is taking her to Marcus as of this moment. And speaking of reports..."

"All the newbies have returned here and the only ones that are left are the regulars that are still with the expeditions." Ellen spoke as she took out a piece of data crystal and handed it over. "They will arrive by nightfall."

"Good. Now I just need to do something before I take a nap- it's been a week." Hazu then sighed as he pocketed the crystal. "Hey Joe!"


The head cook placed himself near the table, ready to take an order.


"A Fresh Fry of the day please."

"Nice choice, for we just had freshly caught river fish. Don't worry they are all edible if you're asking." the cook gleefully wrote down the order. "It will be ready in a few minutes."


And as the wait began, the hall began to have a livelier atmosphere. The television was currently tuned in into the Finals of the Symour Cup, one of Ordered Space's premier leagues. It was the 4th and final period and the score was tied between the two teams. By the time the half of the period came, a platter of freshly fried fish was on the table, as well as some rice.


"Let me have some too Chie-" Ellen spoke as she took one by the body, but instantly dropped it. "Hot!"

"You're supposed to hold it by either the tail or the head." the lieutenant could only chuckle as he held his fish properly, taking a chunk of the freshly fried flesh down the hatch. "Man, this sure is good."


And the two carried on, like the match that was on TV. Moments later, a couple of MARZ's regulars came by and sat beside them, prompting Hazu to order seconds. And the so match continued into overtime, making tensions between the personnel who were rooting for their respective teams more pronounced- as some of them made a betting pool out of the result. And finally, it was all over with a score of 2-1. Money exchanged hands and the hall was finally back to its usual air. And with that, lunch was over.

The Lieutenant, once again alone, was heading towards his quarters when he noticed a couple of Reclamation Workers acting like drunks and looked like they were covered in dark ash even if it was a cloudy 1PM. He approached them and finally took notice that something was wrong.


"Hey what's the..."

"a... a..."

"Hey what's the matter"

"...ttac..."


The words were halted by what happened next. The men's complexion turned a dirty white and with their next step, began to crumble into dust. The shocked Lieutenant stepped back as they finally crumbled, turning into piles of ashes. As he was trying to assess the situation, another scream came in and sent an unusual chill up his spine. He turned towards the direction of the scream and saw another Reclamation Worker, this time sitting on the ground and trying to get away from something. It did not take long for the scene to complete itself. The worker was trying to get away from what seemed to be a monster of a composite of human and some creature. Heavily armored and with an overall gray color it was holding another worker and what seemed to be tentacles from its mouth were entering the mouth of the victim. Moments later, the victim was released and burst into blue flames, finally crumbling into dust like the previous two.


"What the heck is happening now?" he could only think as the creature grabbed the second worker, prompting him to bolt into action, trying to break the creature's grip of the terrified worker. He failed the attempt and was promptly tossed aside.


More screams erupted as he was trying to recover, and all around him, and similar grayish creatures appeared out of nowhere and begun to attack people. There were some who were already in their jackets, trying their best to fend them off. But he had no time to watch as he focused himself back to trying to pry the worker off- who by the way was about to be invaded by a couple of tentacle-like objects from the creature's mouth.


[Get Ready]


And in an instant, a blade sweeps across the creature's arm, managing just enough damage for it to let of of the worker. Then a couple more slashes followed, dealing more damage to the creature- it seemed to take effect as the creature staggered and began to erupt in blue flame, finally crumbling to dust. And as it settled, a hand reached for the worker.


"Are you okay?"


It was Hazu, now in his Barrier Jacket, weapon cradled on his shoulder. The worker held on the hand and he pulled her up. In the meantime, We turn to Ellen and the two other MARZ regulars, also in their Jackets, fighting off more of the creatures.


"Kristel, Kiramena, you guys still okay?" Ellen asked as she converted her opened sword into a rather huge bow and shot off another one.

"Okay here..." The first regular replied, as he took out a creature, a couple of swipes of his batons did the trick.

"Same." The second regular replied. "Take this!"


[Vividheart Shift]


In an instant, the second regular's armored dress was replaced with a more cloth-like, waitress like uniform. She then quickly dashed past a couple of the creatures and by the time she stopped, all of them were already in flame and crumbling.

"Chief... Chief... where are you?" Ellen called over in the mental line, trying to contact the Lieutenant.


[Multi Shot]


Ellen then fired several shots over a group of approaching enemies, hitting them multiple times and defeating them.


"Chief... Chief... where are you? please respond." Ellen tried again.


Back to the Lieutenant...


"I'm okay." He responded as he rushed towards the enemies that were either trying to catch someone, or have already inserted their tendrils into them, turning the poor victims into ash moments later. "It's just..."


[Seeker Pulse] [Hi Shot]


The combination attack hits another creature, releasing its grip on a terrified mage. He then followed up the attack.


[Blitz Saber]


And with one pass, another creature turned to dust. He then helped the mage up, who he quickly identified as being under his command.


"Are you okay Arstein?"

"Chief... what are those things?"


A couple of "those things" suddenly turned towards them. And in response, Hazu dropped what seemed to be a grenade straight to the ground. It exploded into a half-sphere of energy that deterred and even took out the creatures that went after them. Inside...


[Get Ready]


Another device activated and from that half-sphere, the Lieutenant and Arstein emerged, the latter now with her jacket and staff out.


[Iso'len Dra'gess]


Arstein summoned what seemed to be a great serpent, out of "holographic" ice for that matter. And as she completed the summoning, more of the creatures headed towards them.


"Let's go..."


And with those words, the Lieutenant dashed towards them, while the other commanded the serpent to aid him.

Well...I finally managed to fill in the blank that was missing in chapter 2 of WindS-B (it's about time too...)

I've been using this time away to play eroge, read manga and watch anime look for reference material
And I gathered a good bunch of it too

[Eastern Mid-Childa, 12th District]
[Park Road]

Weekend, and as planned, Fuuko and Ellyja, went out to the park to meet up with Fuuko's parents.

"It sure is crowded today..." Elly commented as she followed Fuuko.
"Weekend after all." She replied, looking around.
"Can we really find your parents in this crowd?"
"No problem." Fuuko assured her, "Just need to follow my nose."
"Eh...Nose?" Elly blinked.
Fuuko searched around a few times, then stopped, "This way." she followed the trail.
"Wha, are you sure? There's so many people around..."
"Positive, there's no way I can mistake this scent."
"O-okay." Elly followed.

After a quick run, Fuuko and Elly the center of the park with benches surrounding a large fountain.
"Ah!" Fuuko smiled as she spotted her beloved mother, "Hahaue!" (Note: the highest degree of politeness for "Mother")
"Fuuko." Getting up, Maren smiled and waved at her.
With only a few steps left, Fuuko jumps to Maren's arms, hugging her.

Elly contemplates the scene from a distance. (What a pretty lady...)
Then looks at Fuuko. (Fuu-chan looks so happy, she must really love her mom.) she smiles.

"I missed you~" Fuuko said while pressing her face on her mother's chest and indulge in her scent.
"I missed you too. So did your father." Maren affectionately pets her daughter on the head.
"Now that you mention...where is him?" Fuuko looked around. "This isn't an ambush, is it?" She asked while searching the surroundings.
Maren giggled, "No, he's not here at the moment, but he'll meet up with us later." Then looking at Elly, "Is this your friend?"

"Yes. This is Ellyja Halvern, she's my room mate and partner at the academy."
"He-Hello!" Elly stood straight.
Maren greets her, "I am Minawa Maren, Nice to meet you."
"L-likewise, nice to meet you ma'am."
"Thank you for taking care of my daughter." Maren smiles.
"N-No!" Elly waved her hands, "I'm the one who's under her care."
Maren covered her mouth as she giggled lightly, "There's no need to be so modest."
"Ah-Hahaha..." Elly laughed to hide her embarrassment. (But it's true...)

Holding on to Maren's left arm, Fuuko spoke, "What are today's plans, mother?"
Maren looked at the watch on the park. "Hmm, we still have some time before the appointment, why don't we go for a walk?"
"Yes." The girls nod.

Taking their time, Maren, Fuuko and Elly went window shopping nearby, trying on clothes and accessories, then stopping at a cafe...

Elly sipped her coffee and asked, "Is it really okay to keep these?" she glanced at the bags between her and Fuuko.
"It's a gift from mother, humbly accept it." Fuuko replied instead. "Right, mother?"
Maren nodded, "Yes, there no need to be reserved, today's on me. Order anything you'd want."
"T-thank you." Elly looked at the menu. "Then, a banana split with lots of chocolate~"
"Excuse me, strawberry parfait, large one!" Fuuko ordered.

Minutes later came a waitress with the orders, Fuuko's parfait was especially large.
"Fuu-chan, is it okay to eat all that alone?"
"No problem, I'm still growing." Fuuko replies proudly.
"I see..."
"How about you, are you sure you should be eating that?"
"Eh?" Elly blinked.
"You'll get fat~" Fuuko smirked.
"Aaauu~ Fuu-chan, stop teasing me with that." Elly pouted.
"You're the one that started it, talking about reducing your meal's portion because you were getting fat."
"What? That was about my breasts!"
"....eh?" Fuuko stopped eating and looked at Elly, "What did you say?"
Elly nodded, "Lately my uniform has been a bit tight around the chest, so I thought I'd cut down on the meals to slow it down."
"They got bigger.....again?"
Elly nods once more.
With a twiching eye, Fuuko leans over and pokes Elly's chest.
"Kya! W-what are you doing?!" Elly blushed as she folded her arms to protect her chest.
"Y-You...why does it all go there?!" Fuuko complained.
"It's not like I can control it!"

Watching the two, Maren giggled, "You two are really close friends."
"M-Mother it's not what it looks like. I'm just stuck with her, that's all!"
"Ahh, that's mean of you, Fuu-chan! Even though we sleep together sometimes!"
"H-Hey! That's supposed to be a secret!" she blushed.
"Is that so?" Maren looked at Elly. "Can I hear more about that?"
"Yes, some nights Fuu-chan sneaks into my bed and snuggles close to me." She explains cheerfully.
"Aaawawawaa" Fuuko panicked.
"I see, I see...you still have that habit." Maren smiled, "I'm happy to hear that."
"Habit?" Elly tilted her head to the side.

"When Fuuko was little, in nights she was lonely she'd come sleep with us, and we'd all snuggle close together~~" Maren paused as she remembered, "Oh, and she would usually face towards me too."
"Heee, I see, so that's the reason." Elly nods.
"Motheer~" Fuuko sniffled. "That was a secret too."
"Oh, was it? But it's okay, isn't it, Ellyja-chan?"
"Yes, I won't tell anyone~" She smiled.
"You better not, or I'll triple you training." Fuuko glared at her partner.
(She's serious!) Elly sweated. "I-I'll protect it with me life."

Maren giggled again, "But, Ellyja-chan is lucky, when I was your age, mine wheren't that big."
(Mother, don't compare a human's growth rate with ours...) Fuuko sweatdropped as she commented to herself.
"Eh? But Maren-san's are bigger than mine! And you are still so young, how did they grow that much?"
"Ara, thank you. But it was all thanks to my husband~" Bringing a hand to her cheek, Maren blushed.
Fuuko, who was still eating her parfait, was caught by surprise, "*cough**cough* M-Mother?!" she blushed.
"Oh, and Fuuko helped too~" Maren smiled at her daughter.
"Wha- I did!?" Fuuko blushed further.

"Yes. There are things you can't do alone, so you need the help of someone you trust entirely." Maren explained. "This is the result of ten years of hard work." she folded her arms under her breasts, accentuating them.
"M-M-Mother stop doing that!" Fuuko held her nose.
"A-amazing." Elly said in contemplation.
"You there! Stop staring at mother's proud assets like they're a work of art!" She pointed at Elly.
"Oh...They're not?" Maren's expression saddened.
"T-that's not what I meant!" Fuuko waved her arms.
"Then they are?"
"T-They are, but mother, please act with more dignity."
"It's okay, we're all girls here~" She replied nonchalantly.
(Oyajiiii! What have you been doing to mother while I'm away??) Fuuko frowns while making a fist.

"I see I still have a long way to go..." Elly nodded.
"Oh, not at all, you just need someone you like and trust to help you with it." Maren explained.
Hearing that, Elly turned to Fuuko.
"Why are you looking at me??!!!"
"Because...there's no one else?" She replies innocently.
"Ara ara~" Maren smiled.
Fuuko was unable to reply...

I'll see if I can write the next piece and wrap up this chapter so I can move on to the time skip 3 years

Hmm, yes, this does makes sense, especially if it's used for a more-or-less perfect transmission of the Kaiser Style down the bloodline. But usually, in such cases, the descendant/target recipient should also inherit the memories of those that came before Ingvalt, no? Unless the RFIS, should it exist, could or was meant only to pass the Kaiser Style down, and Ingvalt's regret was passed along with it due to the immense strength of those feelings.

Sanity Check time.
I've started on scene two of this chapter, but I want to get a quick oppinion on Scene One.

Spoiler for C9 SC1:

“Good morning, and welcome to today’s edition of Midday Meal Cast here on Weather Link, sponsored by Aperture Systems. I’m Naru Narusegawa, and this is our chief Meteorologist and Weather Control Magic Expert, George Davidson. Broadcasting live to you today from our studios here in Cranagan. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a beautiful day to be outdoors today isn’t it George?”

“Indeed Naru, it looks like things are going to cooperate for lunch today here in the City of Towers. Temperatures are looking to remain in the lower seventies throughout the lunch hour as people head out to hit the major spots on Sinclair Avenue and along Marina Parkway…”


Its funny how many parallels you find when you examine two civilizations that are completely unrelated to one another…

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. And when you look at two civilizations of humans, however separated they may be in terms of history, culture, and dimensional location, the needs remain the same. Thus, it is by no mere coincidence or leap of logic that the exact same ‘inventions’ would be made without any kind of interaction between the two, let alone influence one another.


The Mid-Childan Ocean and Atmospheric Evaluators, or MOAE as they are called, would be one such example. The proverbial parallel to Earth’s NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), they would be responsible for all things pertaining to weather forecasting and the monitoring of meteorological and oceanic events across all of Mid-Childa. An important part of the day for a population in the billions, they prided themselves on accurate and up-to-date weather modeling.

The significance of this however, was pretty much lost on little Vivio as she snacked on an apple slice.

“As you can see from the satellite picture,” George continued. “A strong area of low pressure’s been steaming across the North Ceres Ocean, pulling along a cold front that’s dumped rain as far south as the McGreggor Archipelago. This system is expected to reach us here in Cranagan some time tomorrow morning as the frontal boundary drags onshore, with an increased chance for thunderstorms as the warm moist air ahead of the front gets forced up over the Selumna Range. After which you can expect a mild cool down and steady rains into the evening hours. So don’t make too many plans for the beaches this weekend.”

George Oscar Davidson, the weather expert currently talking on the TV, was not merely a nice person who liked to help people. He was a man to be respected.
It was a tangent memory that stirred in Vivio. But after Jail’s attack on HQ, and her subsequent kidnapping, she’d seen the Doctor watching the weather. Obviously, knowing now after the fact, he wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to fly a three-kilometer long magical battleship through the middle of a thunderstorm. But that’s not what had been odd.
It was what the serious cyborg girl, Tre, had done. No sooner did George appear on the screen, than Tre seemed to freeze up, duck into a far corner, and ball up on the ground. All while muttering ‘Finger of God’ over and over again as she rocked back and forth.
Despite being frightened of what the doctor was preparing to do, she couldn’t stifle curiosity, and had asked a question.

The Doctor had explained amidst a unnerving chuckle that Tre had been on a ‘mission’ that a storm chasing team had been far too close to, and she had decided to ensure they wouldn’t interfere, or even report her. Unfortunately, what nobody had known was that George, a meteorological expert leading the storm chasing convoy at the time, was also an unregistered weather control mage.

A POWERFUL weather control mage.

George’s intimate knowledge of Meteorology made for an unexpected surprise. Tre could not have known what George was capable of doing. Nobody could have. Davidson was a noted pacifist. However, when his team were suddenly faced down with a combat cyborg and a supporting squadron of drone units, the gloves came off.
The Doctor had loved it. Tre had not. The Meteorologist had taught her the true meaning of the term EF-5 Tornado, and let her and the drones experience the wrath of a mile wide vortex of pure destruction.

The reason of course, that the Doctor had loved it so much, was that someone of such absurdly exceptional power had slipped under the Bureau’s radar for decades, right under their nose. Evaluation of the data Tre had managed to bring back put Davidson easily at Double S strength. And when the Bureau inevitably found out, they wanted to employ him, and he refused. Even after their offers of absurdly high pay ranks, and threats of slapping all kinds of restrictions on his power. He reminded the TSAB that he was a pacifist, and he was there to help people, not hurl lightning bolts in judgement. He would not be doing missions for the TSAB beyond forecasting, and that was Final.
Jail respected Davidson as a man who stuck by his word, no matter what. In a twisted way, a man that was like the Doctor himself, only in a less ‘questionable’ field.

After this of course, every time Tre ever saw George, she’d curl up in a ball, muttering ‘Finger of God… finger of God…’
The Doctor then commented that after the incident, he had forbid anyone from going near MOAE, its offices, or any of their representatives. He said: ‘You could beat mages. You can beat armies. You could even beat the TSAB if you were prepared. But you can’t beat the weather.”
He then pointed out with a laugh, that if you took the first letter from each part of the meteorologist’s name… You spelled G.O.D. And it was no Wonder Tre had been stomped.
It was so funny that Vivio had momentarily forgotten her fear, and hadn’t even realized Scagletti was sedating her.


“And now,” George continued on the screen. “Our Seven on the Sevens. The seven day forecast on the sevens of every hour, followed by the tropical outlook. Stay tuned.”

Random memory aside, Vivio was with Fate-Mama, who was looking into a few different schools in the area to help Nanoha-Mama figure out which one would be the best. Nanoha-Mama had been busy of course with some kind of special morning training, so she couldn’t do it herself today, but she promised that she’d be there for the final decision.


Saint Hildes’ Academy was one of the higher-class schools in the area. Its campus was complete with school levels from primary school all the way to University Level, and was a very strong in the academics, magic, and archeology areas. The archeology department was obviously what got Uncle Scrya to recommend it in the first place. He wouldn’t have bothered otherwise.
It boasted a program that combined the application of knowledge, history, and magical studies to be one of the most well rounded and complete Magical Education complexes on Mid-Childa. Most other schools on Mid-Childa by comparison treated Magic courses as something more like an Athletics Department. Not true with Saint Hildes’. They believed that mages should be well prepared to apply their abilities as intelligently as possible, and often combined classroom lecture with practical training. Many of the mages who graduated from this school were often selected for VERY good positions within the TSAB.

Of such positions included Naval Commanders, such as Admiral Lindy Haralowne, mother to Admiral Chrono Haralowne, and adopted mother of Fate Testarossa Haralowne.

“I grew up in this school,” Lindy remarked. “My homeroom was down that hall and to the right. I took my first flight exam as part of the advanced placement magic course from the roof up the stairs. The courtyard over there is nicknamed Marrow Field because of all the people who broke a limb falling off the roof.”

“Exam failures,” Fate laughed.

“All the time!” the retired Admiral smirked from her spot across from Fate. “I remember Clyde used to get into all kinds of trouble for encouraging them to practice without supervision. The Dean said his name fit so well with all the trouble he got into. I never understood why.”

Fate returned a pleasant smile to her adopted mother. She had a vague idea why, but wouldn’t be able to confirm it without asking Nanoha.

“Then Daedalus would come along and bail him out with overly sophisticated excuses, and spend the rest of the evening calling him all kinds of silly names,” Lindy continued.

“Daedalus?” Fate asked?

“Clyde’s best friend,” Lindy answered. “Those two were about as alike as styrofoam and plate armor, but they were inseparable friends. Clyde would get into trouble, end up with detention or something. Daed would show up and manage to get him out of there with an excuse.”

“Sounds like a good team,” Fate nodded. Lindy suppressed a laugh.

“You didn’t know Daed. The staff did. They knew he was just getting Clyde out of his punishment, but they allowed it because they knew he’d make Clyde pay for it three fold in his own way. He’d make poor Clyde study until daybreak with him without mercy so many times they called him the Shadow of Midnight. Clyde would fall asleep in class and get punished AGAIN. The longest number of times in a row that happened was five days. Clyde practically fell asleep standing up apologizing to me for missing a date.”

Fate suppressed a giggle at mental image of the late Clyde Haralowne, back in his late teens, trying to explain why he was late while actively dozing off at the same time.

“Speaking of which,” the retired Admiral continued. “I heard Shari stayed up all night working on that equipment you brought in?”

Fate nodded, casting a glance at Vivio.
“Yes,” she began. “She pulled an all-nighter. When I checked on her around seven or so this morning, she was still typing away amidst a pile of foam coffee cups. She doesn’t know how it works yet, but she already found something interesting about the pod.”

The elder woman leaned in slightly. “Go on…”

Fate glanced at Vivio again, engrossed in her lunch and staring at some commercial, then returned to her adopted mother.
“The casing’s made of Polystannum Chloride.”

“Plasteel?” Lindy frowned. The material could only be replicated by magical engineering techniques. It was the same chemical structure as Polyvinyl Chloride, but carbon atoms were intermittently replaced with tin, producing a stronger, more metallic material that still felt like mere plastic to the touch. It was light, but several times stronger than conventional plastic for its weight, rivaling many pure metal compounds in the strength-for-weight category. As such it was a favorite to many mages for their devices. In fact, it was light enough that a nine-year-old could pick up a device and handle it with minimal effort, but strong enough to handle the punishment of close combat. The only issue was that Plasteel was inflexible and brittle compared to regular materials, thus, ill suited to large-scale structural engineering.

Still, the use of Plasteel was a disturbing thought. Intelligent devices could restructure themselves and materialize their own alloys. But outside of that, plasteel was not in wide use. It was expensive. Anyone with the resources to spend on magical processes for the creation of plasteel had money, or power to spare. That was not a pleasant thought.

“Plasteel,” Fate nodded. “What’s more, is she found plasteel and graphene in the robot arm we recovered.” That was an even less pleasant thought.

“Definitely the work of someone with resources,” Lindy nodded solemnly. “It makes their attack on Selene all the more suspect. What do you think they were after?”

“I don’t know,” Fate sighed. “Rein had pulled a comprehensive database search. According to survey records she pulled up, the FLMP-8 Facility was built in the former location of a coal fired electrical power plant that was destroyed and buried one hundred and fifty years ago during the war. The cavity I found used to be part of the hopper for the baghouse.”

“That would explain the preliminary results of the forensics team I sent your soil sample to,” the elder Haralowne replied.

“How’s so?” Fate asked.

“Ash,” Lindy stated. “Coal fly ash. The entire room was coated with it.”

Fate screwed her face up trying to wrap her mind around it.

“What would a terrorist group want in a room full of soot?”


“I don’t know,” the retired Admiral admitted. “But I asked the forensics team to analyze it anyway. I reviewed a few other incidents involving Sektor 21 power plant attacks. But this is the only one where they did something like this. Every other facility was a power plant like Selene, a raw mana reactor. What’s more, there’s a large amount of the hillside around the excavation hole that’s missing material.”

“What do you mean?” Fate asked.

“You might have missed it,” Lindy continued. “You were a bit preoccupied from what I read. But I noticed it in the reports from the cleanup crews. There should have been hundreds of tons of earth piled around that hole. It’s like they strip-mined the entire corner around that cooling tower.”

Fate sighed and looked at Vivio again.
“There has to be something we’re missing,” she continued after a second, her face turning into a glare. “Something stupidly obvious!”

“If it were that easy, we’d have caught the masterminds of Sektor 21 years ago,” Lindy responded. However it was obvious by the matching frown on her face that she was thinking along the same lines.


“My dear, such a sour face is unsuited for one with such beauty as yourself.”

Lindy froze... That absurdly flowery pickup line…

“It couldn’t be.”

Turning around, Fate swore the older woman’s face nearly lit up like the sun at the sight of the stranger who had addressed them.

“DAED!”

The man standing before them smiled at the recognition.
“Nice to see I’m not forgotten, Lindy.”

Fate gave him the once over. He was tall, his hair was long, and tied back with a ribbon. The hair itself was silver, showing his age, but his face looked deceptively young. He seemed to put out an air of dandy that was only complemented by the white suit he was wearing to match his hair. In one of his hands, both of which were covered in beautiful white satin dress gloves, he sported a small book on petrography.
As he peered back at her over the top of his spectacles with his light xanthous
eyes, Fate couldn’t help but feel her face flush. He was very handsome.

“And who might this striking young lady be?” he continued, raising an eyebrow.

“This is my daughter, Fate,” Lindy answered.

“One of the famous Aces if I recall,” Daedalus commented as he took Fate’s hand and gave it a peck. “A pleasure.”

“You’re laying on the charm thick as you always used to,” the retired admiral smirked. “If I didn’t know you better than that, I’d have fallen for it.”

“Am I that transparent?” The gentleman responded with a false hurt look.

“Maybe to me,” Lindy answered honestly, then cast a look at Fate, who had turned a darker shade of red. “I don’t think she’s had experience with smooth talking vipers such as yourself though…”

“I apologize,” Daedalus stepped back. “The Sophisticated Romantic act is good for social functions. You know how I like to keep my social weapons sharpened.”

“So why are you here?” Lindy asked, swiftly switching gears.

“Ever to the point as always,” he shrugged. “I work here.”

“Work here?”

Daedalus swept down in an overly flamboyant bow.

“Professor Daedalus Malandra,” he announced with flourish. “Head of the Ancient Belken Studies department. You’re not the only one who’s had a career go well. What about you Lindy? I haven’t heard from you since the incident Clyde passed away.”
“We’re investigating schools for Vivio,” she pointed out the young child still transfixed on the TV, but almost finished with her apple slices. Daedalus glanced at the child, then at Fate, obviously connecting the blond hair.

“I apologize further for my overly familiar attitude,” he stated quickly and without any of the flamboyance of before. “I did not realize I was effectively flirting with a married woman.”

“I’m not married,” Fate flushed again, trying to sidestep the attention. Lindy watched as her old friend’s eyes darted back and forth with calculating speed, his face a mask of puzzled thoughts. Knowing where his train of thought might go next, she decided to defuse the situation before he felt less comfortable. Unlike Clyde, Daed had always fallen apart when he misread someone.

“She’s adopted,” the retired admiral proclaimed. Instantly, Daedalus visibly relaxed and that smile returned.


“I see,” he began. “Still, discussion of such things is not something that makes you frown the way you were a minute ago. I know you better than that. What’s bothering you so badly?”

Lindy sighed, turning back to Fate, who shrugged a ‘Go ahead it’s not secret.’

“This case Fate’s working on right now,” she began. “Sektor Twenty-one stirred up trouble yesterday and got one her best friends hurt.”

“Sektor Twenty-one?” Daed’s eyes narrowed almost to slits. “What did those psychotic morons do this time?”

“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” the elder Haralowne grumbled. “They attacked the Selene power facility-“

“That’s bold even for them,” Daedalus interrupted.

“But it’s just strange,” Lindy continued. “They didn’t destroy the plant at all. Instead, they excavated and made off with hundreds of tons of material from the foundation area around one of the cooling towers.”

Daed reached up and tweaked his spectacles before speaking.

“They wanted DIRT?” he asked at length.

“Well,” Lindy began. “Coal fly ash actually. The hillside around that tower was built up on it and the buried remains of a previous power plant.”

“I see,” he furrowed his brow in thought. “Perhaps you should explain the details to me on the way to my office. There might be something in the archeology database here on campus that might be of use.”

“We already went through archeological and geological survey records for the area and turned up nothing,” Fate commented. “I don’t want to impose on your time for something we’ve already done.”

“Nonsense,” Daed commented, pushing his spectacles up with a finger. “Our database is separate from the TSAB’s record database and contains archeological data that’s three hundred years old. The Infinite Library is about the only place that might have a more complete archeological record than us, but you know how hard it is to find anything, even with Librarian Scrya running the show.”
Lindy opened her mouth to object, but the professor beat her to it.

“You and I both know I’m just as stubborn as you are Lindy,” he stated matter-of-factly. “That’s what it took for us to deal with Clyde. Now come along, I won’t take no for an answer.”


Lindy closed her eyes and sighed under an exasperated smile. Stringing you along before you could get a word in edgewise. Just like old times. With a glance at Fate, who nodded with a ‘might as well’ look, they both got up, checking to make sure Vivio had finished her lunch.

It's been one hell of a week. Leading Lingo and ZettaiKaren around the home island, putting my half-ass'd cosplay costume together, throw in a few dates with the mistress and one for the imouto in exam week, then going flat-out for Anime Festival Asia 2009...

Early this afternoon we got to see the Keion-bun and lamented in one voice the lack of Mio. D= At least we got a Nya~~ out of Azusa. After that, we had a crazy session of epic with Yoshiki and May'n in I Haato Anisong (The OCT contingent got front row!!!), and then went to build on that with a Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0 with Shou + UWA Genshiken. Let's not forget the mad sprint for the last train.

My brain is in pieces from all that awesomesauce. I'm dead-beat. Seriously. Got to meet Esta, Shou and Funya in the flesh (and suffer their thanks for all the khrack). Too bad I missed dk on that one chance. Never had this much fun in such a short time in a looong time.

Oh and Anita AND Heinekochan both don't exist.

Pictures will come later. I'm run into the ground and it's only adrenaline keeping me running. So before I hit the sack, I'd like to tell OCT that it's been one hell of a ride. Khrack production will resume this week, for better or for worse.

It's pretty minor and probably doesn't even affect the plot as it looks like just a little blurb, but it does seem kind of odd that George would not wind up getting arrested or otherwise running into some serious legal consequences for failing to register as a mage. If the TSAB requires all mages to register, which they probably do, then I would think that there would laws against failing to register etc etc. Otherwise the scene looks pretty good to me.

Just my two cents and a bit of nitpick.
