So Nagi may be related to Hayate in some way but we still have no clue and it may be nothing. However, there is a huge piece of the puzzle if you look at what Hayate said. Even Hayate thinks that an ordinary salary man could afford such a thing, and while he knows the value of a dollar/yen more than anyone else in the series he also was so poor that he tends to find even fairly normal things expensive. For the honeymoon to be something even Hayate isn't impressed by that's really saying something.

The question then becomes, who was this fairly poor guy that met Yukariko and actually married her. It does set up that social class isn't an impossible barrier to overcome in the HnG universe, which honestly applies to Hayate ending up with almost anyone since he's so poor. I think it will eventually be a plot point as to why there are so many people running around that look like Hayate (though for some reason he's the only one that's been commented to look feminine, poor, and seedy). Now I'm curious as to whether Hayate's parents were really his parents...and I'm pretty sure that Hayate's brother wasn't a blood relative.

Well sorry Wolfnagi, I'd say there's decent odds that Hayate and Nagi are at least loosely related.

Sigh...waiting another week to see if Hayate finally makes his decision and what Bleach reference we can make about it.

Nothing has been said about Hayate's brother not being his blood relative. Nothing like that has ever been hinted. All we know about him is that he got fed up with his parents, and left the house. He also seems to be the only relative Hayate cares about.

From what I've seen in this chapter, Hayate will definitely find an alternative. He'll probably never choose between em. If Nagi is somehow blood related to Hayate, and her father really is dead, then Hayate could ask Athena to adopt her into family. But what about Maria? Hmm...

Maria is somewhat of a mother figure to her, if not a big sister. Hayate is a love interest, and if that were to cease, then depending on how hard she'd take it, he'd probably become like a big brother. I can't picture Athena taking the role of her mother, or sister... they never had any interaction between them to begin with. No idea how it would turn out.

Perhaps rivalry at start? I don't see Nagi having much chance against her at all. Athena easily beats her on almost all levels that they could compete on.... Magic power (which Nagi doesn't even have, or at least not yet... perhaps... hmhm), physical strength (not even a sweat), smarts (Athena aced all her exams already, and was like that at the age of 7, while Nagi is still attending school. Although she has great potential, she just won't use it... it's best to laze around <3), physical attraction (purely subjective - though, Hayate does prefer mature and developed women), cuteness (current Athena version has no chance, while loli version... tch.. better not compare, else I'll be converted as well! - this is sort of subjective as well, I guess...), games (no idea here, but I think that Nagi has a huge advantage... not sure the value of such a thing though... heh), ummm... what else?

Oh, well.... *sigh*

thought not much:
Games (like Rah said)
Otaku (she definitely beats Athena and might even us!)
Friends (this is one thing Athena really lacks of, at least Nagi have almost everyone,take that Athena,the only friend you have is Hina,Machi and Midas,muahahahahaha)

You are ignoring the fact Nagi is a hikkikomori (I don't know if that's a moe appeal, but...) and really, she only has 3 friends: Sakuya (is her cousin, so I don't know if count), Isumi and Wataru (primally related to the arrianged marriage) and all others are Hayate's friends...
And anyway, You haven't play eroges, right?
Athena has more potential ( like a eroge heroine: her past, her body, her relationship with the protagonist, etc...) that you think, so don't understimate Athena...

I'm obsessing over Sharin no Kuni right now. Only 2 endings to go. Hafta skip loads of crap, though.. gonna take another hour or so I guess.. heh~

Hina probably considers her as a friend, but Athena on the other hand.....

Anyway, I thank god, or Hata, that Athena has her distant and silent personalities due to her tragic past and limited in friends. Honestly, I won't want Athena to be that friendly with the others, only to Hayate alone is fine.
