Eh? What exactly does it say? Is a new anime not confirmed?

New Code Geass Anime Announced

The “new project” Bandai recently announced has been confirmed as being a full anime project promising a “new birth,” much to the delight of the many fans of the series.

Tempering fan enthusiasm is uncertainty over the release schedule (it is not clear whether it will actually be released in 2010), and more importantly over the direction the story is likely to take considering the conclusive events of the anime.

Fans ponder whether the project will take the form of an Evangelion-style alternative remake, a purely character-based spinoff, or another narrative somehow fitting into the events of the original, or even rewriting it.

Sankaku confirms it to be a new anime.

@konart

Lelouch and Suzuka are likely playing a role because of those pictures. I don't understand why Newtype would place their pictures and a short description next to the announcement if they were completly unrelated to the new story. Then it would've been better to place Renya and C.C. but they didn't.

Me personally thinks it's either a spin-off or a sequel aside of the Renya of The Dark story (That still is awaiting to get animated) where Lulu and Suzaku are involved....

Renya and C.C. is out of place - it's different story. Lelouch and Suzaku have already played a role. All that we can say now - new anime will probably deal with the same universe, nothing more. I'm not saying that they are unrelated, just that they(or their names) won't play major role

I don't see any actual confirmation at that place, just a claim that there will be one and the picture which they haven't translated.

Ah then it's ok we'll see what'll happen when Taniguchi finally get the balls to reveal some more information instead of trying to hype people up with only announcements that don't give anything away.

<_< Like with the last announcement, getting all the people hyped up over a new manga

I can't help but lol at all the false hype they're creating with the misleading teaser art. They really are trying to stretch it as far as possible before they pop the bubble.

(Of course that's assuming that the new anime will not be a redux.)

Dtshyk from the news team on MAL confirms it too.

He's a fair reliable source when it comes to providing information and translations. He provided the info on the previous announcement with Renya He claims that there isn't any detailed information about the new Geass anime to be found in the article. It's just a announcement of a new anime and nothing more.

"According to Newtype February issue, director Taniguchi Goro mentioned a new animation of Code Geass. He said it will be announced soon."

That's better, but not conclusive. Could be an OVA at best, and not necessarily a continuation of any sort.

Don't trust MAL News or Sankaku Complex. They make many mistakes and then either try to secretly erase the mistakes or pretend they don't exist. There is no announcement of new anime, and director Taniguchi Goro does not say anything in Newtype February issue.

Since they said this new project will happen in the Edo era (i.e. in the past) obviously no previous CG character (except maybe C.C.) will be there (it will take a couple of centuries for them to be born).
So either we will have a brand new cast of characters or time travel will once again be used to mess with our minds.

"There will be an end to all wars."

Anyone who claims that Newtype says there is or will be a new anime announced is spreading wrong info. Don't trust them.

Yes, I find it especially amusing how there seems to be a mix up between Taniguchi and Kawaguchi.

That's a reasonable distinction, of course, but there is one detail that we have to keep in mind: context.

What is the underlying purpose of all these events, from the December 5th stunt to these magazine articles?

Sunrise and Bandai wouldn't be wasting so much of their own time if they weren't at least planning to announce something, even if the details may not be officially ready yet. The end of all wars is, evidently, a lot more difficult to arrange than making a new Code Geass project. If there is nothing to announce, it's either part of the promotional strategy or, at worse, a sign that the project itself is still in its early stages or under discussion but the franchise's marketing push has already started.

Newtype's article might not be the equivalent of an announcement, but where there's smoke...a fire isn't far behind.

Is that really an argument? Really, you must be joking..

If a producer tells a magazine he wants to make an announcement soon, it means he will.

That's the key. They're planning "something," but will it be anime? Even it is, will it actually happen? It's true that context is important, but that's why it's important to note another contextual point: Kawaguchi states outright that he doesn't know what kind of "something" that the next Geass work will be. Kawaguchi did talk about live-action stuff without any prompting from the interviewer.

Not necessarily. Newtype has posted interviews in which producers have said that they want to announce a sequel/second season/film/whatever, but end up never doing that for lack of money, lack of resources, or other commitments. Just because a producer wants to announce something doesn't mean it will actually happen.

We're Geass fans. Haven't we seen how much trouble we get into when we put words in the creators' mouths and claim they say something that they don't, especially if they go out of their way not to say it?

Newtype wouldn't post things like that if they haven't got anything planned, we know it will be an animated something. Just not what.

Having a picture of Lelouch and Suzaku is only to draw your attention, if they put in new characters not only do they then announce what they wanted to do later but people might even skip the scans if they zip through the magazine cause they don't know what it is. Seeing Lelouch and Suzaku is like an immediate reaction of "ooh look Code Geass" and it peaks your interest more than having nothing at all.

Still we don't know what is going to be animated, it can still take long before anything really happens. I know how Newtype and Sunrise can tease people, in the upcoming couple months my guess is that we still know nothing for certain. Maybe a few lose words or lines or quotes but that is all. It might be an OVA series or the new manga project being animated, anyway they still have a long way to go. Seeing as geass is a successful series they will have no problem with airing in the right season and the right time slot, my idea is that during summer or late spring we hear exactly what is going on and if it is an animated series and no OVA (which it can be as well) that it will air in fall on the popular Sunday slot (I think it is Sunday.. FMA2 airs on that slot atm). They wouldn't air in summer, that is bad business, spring is too soon so they still have a long time to tease us

We've known since December that something is planned, but the next plan is not necessarily animation, and if it were, we don't know if it will become a reality. Remember, the producer doesn't know, and states that outright. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Really. If God says he hopes to make it rain today, it's going to rain today. It's far from jumping to conclusions. Yes things happen, budgets get cut and plans get scrapped, but as it stands right now as far as we have been informed and can judge, there is going to be some kind of animated product. There is no reason other than pure skepticism to assume otherwise.

Yes, this fandom has had terrible problems in the past with taking the Word of God as truth, you're absolutely correct. But we're over that now, aren't we?
