Similar to School Days - less ridiculous..

Looking for a similar anime to School Days but I found that a bit ridiculous with
Spoiler for School Days:
I would still like it to be on the sad side like this but maybe a bit more believable. Thanks.

Edit: Kind of sounded like I didn't like School Days...let me clear up... as long as its similar to School Days it'll be fine.

Ef ~ A Tale of Memories ~
It's ridiculous in its own way, and I enjoyed it far less than School Days, but it's "sad", I guess. Pathetic, more like it.

That's a very hard shoe to fill, simply because male leads usually have no balls when it comes to the opposite sex.

It really depends on what part of School Days you liked. I've watched a lot of sad, moody, drama heavy romance animes, but I tend to avoid shows with dickish male leads (unless played for laughs) and "nice boat" endings.

I pretty much have the opposite opinion on this. For me, School Days was just melodrama, while EF had actual romantic development, characters I liked, creative visuals, and a far more hopeful ending. The EF series (and A Tale of Memories in particular) is one of my favourite shows.

As this person said; if you're looking for something similar to School Days, then White Album is obligatory.

I also recommend Rumbling Hearts.

Well, I loved most of the episodes, really. Same with the characters. It just kind of caught me by surprise towards the end. As for the ending, I guess it wasn't too bad.
Spoiler for School Days:

So you're just looking for some romance series then? School Days really does stand alone, you will never find another series like it.

I love True Tears, it is my favorite of all time. You should also check out Toradora if you want something that starts out slow and light-hearted.

Yeah, Clannad] was great. Like Toradora, it starts light-hearted and slowly gets into things.

I wouldn't say Makoto had balls. He was just a [insert series of curse words portraying a sorry excuse of a human and man here].

Agreed. I haven't watched ef - a tale of melodies but am planning to. ef - a tale of memories was awesome, I loved it. I watched it twice so far and am reading the manga that's adapted from the same source material.

Yes! I love White Album so much. It has a couple of things in common with School Days but it is a lot different too. Either way, it's a must.

Why am I not surprised that you mentioned that? lol. That is a great series too. I watched it all inside 12 hours it was so good, I couldn't stop, lol. It's also called Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. "Rumbing Hearts" is the name the Japanese producers wanted used outside of Japan.

Pretty much every Romance series is less ridiculous than School Days, as if you can even call School Days romance.

school days is one of the most epic win harems ever created. yes, a deadly harem. lol

most of the suggestions here are pretty much the same ones i'd give, but it'd help to narrow down what specifically of school days appealed to you, the harem? or the 'tragedy'?

Not necessarily the tragedy, but the whole 'internal conflict' that some of the characters faced (namely Sekai, having to choose between whats right and her heart). Also, just the sad undertones to it, while also being lighthearted during some parts. Its hard to explain, heh. I just love it.
