that a-rab is dead! Before tora bora bin ladin made lots of videos, after the battle of tora bora no more videos, his body is buried in one of the caves that were destroyed. Neither side wants to admit he is dead, the US can't prove he is dead and if they could it would just make him a martyr, al qaeda does not want to say he is dead because they need him as a figure head leader to rally the followers

Japan to rethink "U.S. military presence" after mayoral poll
Quote:
Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has said the result of a weekend mayoral poll will fuel a major rethink about US military bases in Japan.

Residents of the Japanese city of Nago, on Okinawa, chose a candidate opposed to the hosting of an American air base.

The Futenma base was originally scheduled to move to Nago from a more crowded part of Okinawa.
As PM Hatoyama is quoted as saying that the Japan/U.S. accord will be re-examined, I'm not sure how you get that from an election at the village/town level. You would virtually need to amend the Japan Constitution in the end, and would the voters do (or even care, in the case of the younger adults) that?

Pbfffffft, even if Obama is even alive - sounds like he's just trying to take credit for anything that happens somewhere....

One could argue that he's also responsible for all the stressed out passengers lately thanks to all the absurd "security procedures" as well as responsible for the profits of the body scanner vendors.

Yeah it's a white version of BET. That's why there's a black country singer tearing up the charts...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ksSOysLPmY

The problem is most black music artists aren't into country. They're too into Hip-Hop and Rap. But those that do try country, do very well and are embraced.

BET = Black Entertainment Television.

CMT = Country Music Television.

One focuses on race, the other just focuses on music.

Okay, so Eminem isn't all over BET? What about Justin Timberlake? Every one of his videos are played regularly.

You seem to be taking offense, and I don't know why. . .

As I said at the end of my post. What do the two acronyms mean?

black entertainment television

country music televsion

Just because BET has whites on there doesn't erase the name.

If there was a WET there would have been something to the comment. But there isn't.

"Black" on BET is just a surface.

here's the overall picture...

BET = hiphop/rap/crunk. Urban
CMT = country/southern rock. Rural

both channels deliver music AND lifestyle.

Something tells me that BET never has profile biographies or concerts of Charley Pride....

edit: OTOH.... CMT usually has something playing I'd never characterize as "country" when I trip past it. More like 'urban wannabee yeehaw' somethings....

Whether it's just a 'surface' or not, it still identifies itself as black television. Yes both deliver music and lifestyle, but one of them identifies itself racially, the other does not.

This my last post on the subject, because I don't want to go into a large argument over something so inane

CMT doesn't just air music. Here's a list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...oadcast_by_CMT

I see:
  • A Big Redneck Wedding
  • Nanny 911
  • [Hulk] Hogan Knows Best
  • Trick My Truck
  • Trick My Trucker
  • Country Fried Planet hosted by Bill Engvall
  • Greatest NASCAR. . .
  • Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge
  • Redneck Dreams

Here's some by BET:
  • One on One
  • The Jamie Foxx Show
  • Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
  • Baldwin Hills
  • Harlem Heights
  • BET's Comic View
  • Brothers to Brutha
  • Hell Date
  • Bobby Jones Gospel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ision_programs

See the connection? Look, I'm not screaming racist, all I'm saying is that CMT targets a certain demographic (southern/midwestern white) while BET targets a different demographic (urban black). The name doesn't matter, the programming says it all. Is it necessary for the Lifetime Network to include the word woman in it's name for it to show that it's a network for women? No. Is the same necessary for it to be known that Spike TV targets men? No.

eyah... sometimes Ron gets it right. The US infrastructure both physical and services is literally crumbling in front of us yet "here we go again fixing everyone else's problems instead of our own". Let the *UN* do something useful here... like be the front coordinator in the reconstruction - gathering funds and personnel.

What I don't understand is why does the international community need to rebuild haiti? this is just pure ludicrous. If a nation suffers a freak accident, it isn't the job of the international community to put humpity together again. It's fine to have individuals donate for the sake of humanity, but for governments to go in to rebuild another country is not right, why? because there is no way the U.S. nor the world can do this for every country that is affected by these natural freak accidents. If you look at the Tsunami victims, the world didn't go back and save those people from all the squalor, only temporary succor was offered, but was forgotten, basically here we are establishing that some lives are worth more than others and that is a scary thing to do, or at least government sanctioned stratification of natural disaster victims on their worth.

At a town hall meeting Thursday, Bauer, who is running for governor in his own right now that Sanford is term-limited, said: "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."
i will bet you this cross everyone mind at least once if more times.

if i live in SC, i would be tempted to vote for this guy depending on the rest of his platform.

There's a rift in society that look upon poverty and the such in a different view than many people would like.

Take this example as an analogy; perhaps too "extreme" by some people's standards; drug abuse. Inorder to fix drug abuse you do not give the addict enough drugs so that he doesn't go off destroying himself in other ways to get money for him to get high, rather you try to rehabilitate the person. What poverty needs right now is a way to rehabilitate the people. There is a myriad of reason for when a person falls under the line, but the difference is that there are ones who fall under it and try to get over it; and others that simply don't.

Instead of simply giving them the bare minimal and telling them to shut up, if the government wants to deal with the impoverished, give them the ability to do so. Offer government sponsored courses or initiatives to get the people qualified or willing to work.

And at the end be ready to accept that you can't save them all, and for those; you'll have to keep helping. But it shouldn't be the first step that the government should be taking. Throwing money at a problem never makes it go away; it simply delays the time when you finally confront it.

Haiti is perhaps the second New Orleans people were waiting for. It might be guilt of some sort, or whatever it may be. People perhaps feel obligated to a point to contribute now when they failed to do so at New Orleans. I think Ron Paul got it right; its no time for other governments to come in and try to "straighten" the place up, you can't do that to every other country and expect them to become independent or recover. It just won't happen.

I'm in favor of a combination of (1) socialism (providing up to a basic time-limited safety net) and (2) the political system of Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" over the modern-day (as practiced) democracy, but I'm not going to get it. I think the "dole" is necessary to give people that basic safety net in case of unexpected situations, but it can be abused a bit too easily, IMHO.

The analogy of people on the dole to stray animals is disgusting, I feel, though.

In case people missed this yesterday... Plane tumbled out of the sky over Lebanon
Quote:
BEIRUT – The first sign of trouble was a flash of light on the horizon Monday — and then witnesses said the Boeing 737 tumbled like "fire falling down from the sky" into the stormy Mediterranean Sea.

All 90 aboard were feared dead in the pre-dawn crash. Lebanon's leaders ruled out terrorism while investigators collected witness accounts in hopes they could provide clues. Aviation experts cautioned it was too early to know what brought down the Ethiopian Airlines jet — particularly without the black boxes.
Hopefully, the recorders can be found soon, and the info on them can be read. Thoughts to their families as well...

Back to the U.S. style of politics... Obama to seek freeze on part of the budget
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Facing voter anger over mounting budget deficits, President Barack Obama will ask Congress to freeze spending for some domestic programs for three years beginning in 2011, administration officials said Monday. Separately, Obama unveiled plans to help a middle class "under assault" pay its bills, save for retirement and care for kids and aging parents.
A risky move, IMHO. The freeze is just on approx. 17% of the budget, and excludes foreign demands and obligations. Neither of the two major parties will like this, and the White House can find itself isolated as a result.
