Fundamentally, the Tau Drives were more than sufficient for the regular government forces. Mobilesuits are not designed to operate for long periods without having access to a recharge facility. The only benefit would be if you build a recon-unit that has a Tau Drive that's powered by nuclear reactor.

Long operation time benefit CB, who have few resupply facilities. But when you have flying carriers and bases scattered everywhere like the Earth forces, it doesn't really matter.

There would be some benefit, in the end, but not enough to justify either the expense or public outcry.

They don't even need that, the Ahead Forcing Scout Type unit can operate up to a week without charging for recon missions, although battles greatly diminish its operation time, but it is primary a recon unit.

Not to mention the time needed to go back and research back the forbidden technology, and of course, getting the remaining nuclear fuel out of the desert.

I wonder what happened to that first ESF president. Did he get impeached and thrown into prison? (Hopes it would not happen to his real-life counterpart..)
I'm pretty sure the whole parliament got impeached,or in some amount of trouble. But yeah probably imprisoned.Somebody needs to take the public fall, the world cannot lose hope in the Federation as a governing system,as such a system would be met by plenty of opposition even in the first place since they may be disconnected from the People [hence Katharon],after an incident like what happened in S2,I'm surprised the Federation even exists.

That's the benefits of taking away the countries's armies, you take away their power to fight backk, which was why Katharon was formed in the first place by nations who were against the disarmaments.

Corrupt people do exist but in this case the Innovedo took advantage of all of them at one place by giving them the power to do alot of things as well as being immune to any sort of scrutiny or regulations.

This is precisely why an organisation like ALAWS was made by the Innovedo by giving them the ability to bypass the normal redtape that otherwise would have prevented them from operating as freely amd as powerful as they had in S2.The Innovators can do this because they have the information maipulation ability of Veda, not to mention they directly played a role in the formation of the ESF itself just like Veda formed the 3 power blocs.Even the ESF president said the formation of such a large army like the ESF was impossible without the influence of Veda.

if the Innovators didnt intervene, then Licth would probably less likely to get into a powerfcul position,if such a position may even exist since normally tight rules of engagement procedures are applied not to mention judical responsibility.

What the Innovators did was that they took the individuals that would have little morality and skilled to do the job they wanted, which was to create destruction easily.Theyh probably wont give such a position that breaks so may humanitarian aspects to a moral person,Kati for example didnt get assigned to MM but Lindt was.

One would also have to take into account psychological here. They are many people who would be willing to commit evil deeds in a position of power, especially if they can be immune to ramifications of it,but this does not mean that they are willing to dol so if they did not have that immunity gurrentee. While they are indeed people who will do it at whatever cause, usually they are laws and regulations imposed hopefully to a avoid such an incident, especially in a globalised federation type government.

What the Innovators did is that they took out the high people, give them a position of power and immunity gurrentee in exhange of loyalty. If such a centralised was not there these people would probably gotten here, nor would it be a united conspiricyy.

this is notto say Federation would not be corrupt ever, but im saying they would not have evolved to the centralised powerful level they did in S2 so quickly or ever since Veda allowed them to manipulate and bypass the conventional system in place that would have been there to prevent this type of atrocities in the 1st place.
