I know everyone who watches anime has probably seen it but after what like nearly two decades Akira still looks very impressive.

Also Ghost in the Shell, the movies and series.

I think Macross Zero has the highest quality animation.

Also consider Paranioa Agent, Jigoku Shoujo, Blood+

You should try Kara no Kyoukai and Hellsing Ultimate.

It's a comedy but I'd say Nyan Koi had some very high quality animation for it's genre, and also currently airing Sora no Woto, and Katanagatari both have excellent animation.

Bakemonogatari also had high quality animation, but at times it's a bit different than normal.

Dunno how I let Canaan slip my mind when I posted earlier it had great animation for sure, and so did the other two though they aren't as recent, so I didn't think to mention them but looking back on the age of the thread I suppose they wouldn't have seen either of those.

Yes, definitely! Watch it! It's the most epic anime samurai movie I've ever seen.

Also I second Hellsing Ultimate. If you can stomach the gore, that is.

I'm also recommending Darker than BLACK and Kuroshitsuji

What? Was I watching a different series o.0?

Seriously now, SHAFT doesn't animate anything, they just use stills and dialogue to great effect. Bakemonogatari would be a contestant for the least animated anime I bet, along with Zetsubou sensei...

As for the suggestion, can't really think of anything that hasn't been recommended, sorry.

Just because there was less animation than a 'normal' series doesn't reduce the quality of the animation that is used , that's my opinion on it anyways.
