Glad I got in here early, there's a bit of official confirmation that you'll need to have here in case people question the 3DS:
Official memo from Nintendo's website WARNING: .pdf file Also, some other rumors: -Next Gen Nvidia Tegra = Tegra 2 -Hinge-less design in that both screens can be folded to become one large screen -Big screens are probably in the 3.5 - 4 inch range -Backwards compatible could either mean uses the same DS Slot-1 cartridge or download-able AKA DSiware. E3 seems so far away now... |

Wow Angelic Cross, you still using that ashley avatar. Just, wow, the last time I saw that picture was several years ago
And that should be confirmed to have dual-touch screens, due to the backwards compatibility with DSi games. |

Keep the rumor mill going and going
-I'm not sure if you guys have ever seen it before, but there used to be these collectable card-sized stuff that had a picture behind it and it was covered in a type of transparent plastic that if you looked at it at all angles, it's quite literally a 3D, non-electronic image. This 3DS could be using a digital electronic version of this, which I'll say is very believable. -Seems to corroborate my claims of screen sizes between 3.5 - 4 inches. -3D control stick(s), or something like that PSP analog stick. -Improved Wifi transfers (can we finally pass the 200KB transfer rate?) -Improved battery life -vibration function (built-in rumble pack? Should've been in the DS Fat ) Someone better leak images a la PSPgo |

A part of me wants to get it because it sounds cool but then I remember the crap third party games that will come out and it puts me off but then I remember the good first party games.

I believe the effect will be like this: there's going to be a camera keeping track of the position of your eyes, and then the image of the game will change accordingly, giving the impression you're seeing a three-dimensional image.

You know, I had a discussion with my brothers, and I've not seen it mentioned anywhere so far yet, but about the backwards compatibility, if this 3DS really has 3D capability, then there has to be some way to turn it off.
Because I really doubt existing DS games can magically turn into 3D, right? Unless that is possible, but how exactly do you turn Advance Wars Dual Strike into 3D? Don't tell me this is Xbox - Xbox360 all over again with limited BC support. Then again maybe 2D games will stay 2D and those that use 3D graphics can be boosted to 3D. Hmm, needs more digging |

Not sure if 3D games would have the ability to be turned off, but I would assume they could. It seems Nintendo likes the idea of making anything that could alter battery life into something that can be changed (sound, light levels). I believe multiple screens or displays or however they planned on doing the 3D would qualify under that.
In any case, the system itself would definitely have the ability to play 2D games. It's just whether the games had the ability to have the 3D turned off. |

Well, it would make sense to be able to switch of 3D, if the screens do have that overlay, a way would be to just turn off the overlay. Kind of like how the DS play's GBA games, one screen stays off but the entire screen used on the GBA is on (not limiting itself to the size of the GBA resolution.)
