Neji should be pronounced more like Nayz-hee, since a Japanese 'j' is like a French one.

Japanese is a pretty easy language to pronounce phoenetically, as all vowels have only one sound.

A - ah
E - pronounced like the letter 'A'
I - ee
O- oh
U - oo

A "quick-and-dirty" pronunciantion guide to Japanese is that: the accent/stress is almost always in the FIRST syllable. So when in doubt about a word, use this "rule". Add that to the vowel sounds veritas mentioned above and you're pretty much set.

Thus, Team 7's names are pronounced as:

NAR'-rto (note the silent u) - Naruto
SASS'-ke (Sasuke)
SA'-kura (Sakura)

As for your words...

AN'-bu (Anbu)
HI'-nata (Hinata)
HYU'ga (Hyuga)
KIN' (Kin)
NE'-ji (Neji)

Hmm, I thought Hinata was more like HI'nyata. Kinda like pinata, but with an H.

No, Kin is pronounced 'Keen' as someone already said. Uh, I don't really know about how the stresses go on Japanese syllables, butyeah, I think I remember most Naruto people kinda saying it like 'Hina-ta.'

In Episode 59, Naruto pronounced it as "HI'-nata", accent on the first syllable. So it is indeed, "HEE-natah" not "hee-NAH-ta"...

Oh what the heck, let's just uses Viz's translation and call her the "world-class freak"!!

Native english speakers has always problems in pronunciation of foreing languages .
Japanese names and words are mostly pronounced as they are written. 'Ei' ( long e ) and 'Ou' (long o) are common exceptions.

If that were the case, Sasuke would be pronounced 'Sasukah.' I cracked myself up just writing it.

I know that it's been said, but I come from Japan, and although I have forgotten a lot, I haven't forgotten name pronounciation!

AHN-buu (in japanese first sylable is always dominant)
HEE-nah-tah
HE'OO-gah. (it's hard to express in english)
KEE-n (like the work 'keen' but keep the e shorter)
NEH-jee (soft "J")

I hope I was a little helpful.

*hmph* Bet you wouldn't be saying that if Bandai Entertainment got their hans on this anime. And suddenly had VAs from Wolf's Rain and that they would jump on board to do this anime.

And as if you can do any better (which you can't) ><
