Hmmm yeah, but you have to admit, Itachi felt more comfortable fighting Kakashi than he did fighting against Gai.
The thing is we have seen a lot of Kakashi and very little of Gai, but yet he still comes across as a very strong candidate.
I only hope to see more of Gai fighting, even if it is only TaiJutsu, I think he has proven It to be a worthy form of combat against even the mightiest of foes, donít you?

How can you admit with that given that they didn't fight?

We don't know many things about Gai, he's extremely good at Taijutsu, probably the best Taijutsu specialist of the show actually and the story induced that he's more or less at the same level of Kakashi.
And that's pretty much all.

Well yes ok granted they didnít actually fight.
But imo of that episode Itachi was far wearier of Gai than Kakashi, he also made out that he knew of Gai and his abilities.

Frankly I don't know how you can tell that, Itachi did warn Kisame not to take Gai lightly which is pretty much normal if Gai is about at the same level of Kakashi.

Despite his strength Gai obviously isn't as known as Copy Ninja Kakashi, Itachi merely advised Kisame not to juge him on his funny attitude.

And then repeated that they should leave because they weren't here to fight as he kept saying since his appearance, especially now that Gai said that he called for reinforcement.
I don't think he acted differently for Gai than for Asuma and Kurenai or Kakashi.

Yeah, but Kakashi thought he could take Itachi on par Sharingan v. Sharingan. And that fell through, Gai could fight Itachi totally bypassing the Sharingan so he wouldn't fall trap to that. I think Itachi might have been a little weary fighting someone like that if he knew he couldn't pull him in with his Sharingan trap.

Gai would have so much trouble wondering wtf kind of seal Itachi is pulling on his ass the next second

And i would like to see Gai start utilizing some chakra power in his fighting. He doesn't have to open all of the gates. 3 would do just fine
And i think Gai and Kakashi has fought before, because i the suggestions Gai mentioned probably were from old contests.
I think Gai has his physical power, and he is loads stronger than kakashi at that. Though in ninjutsu and genjutsu he can't measure up to him.

Itachi was semi enjoying himself till gai showed up. It may have been just because it was now 4 on 2 and he was low chakra after the menga move, but his statement to not underestamate him to kisame did seem to indicate some respect. He was pretty much the only one to land a good hit on one of the bad guys there.

He also did seem to have away of avoiding the sharigon effects which is itachi's trump card.

Gai is probly the strrongest of the journin in konoha. When we did see him fighting those sound his moves did seem to be similar in strength lvl to what tsundee was doing. IE wall crushing power in every hit.

No sorry you haven't changed my mind one bit.
I still don't think Gai and and Kakashi have had a no holds barred fight whilst at Jounin level.

Actually Itachi seemed a lot more impressed by kakashi when he praised him to be able to use his Sharingan to this extent though he isn't a true Uchiha, still Kakashi isn't at Itachi's level.

And Itachi didn't seem to enjoy the commotion at all, he didn't stop to say to Kisame that they should leave since the beginning and it's what he did.
He wanted to leave, Kakashi, Asuma and Kurenai tried to stop him and they failed.

The goal of the Jounins was to arrest Itachi, the goal of Itachi was to leave to seek Naruto.
The fact that Gai came and that the reinforcement was coming stopped Itachi and Kisame to take Kakashi to know how he knew about the Akatsuki because Itachi didn't want to start a war in the middle of Konoha but that's all, in the end Itachi left freely as he wanted whereas the attempt to stop him was a faillure.

The ability of Gai to fight without looking his opponent in the eyes allows him to avoid the Genjutsu of the Sharingan but that's all, once again the strength, speed and Taijutsu of Gai make him more or less the equal of Kakashi.
And Itachi is simply better than Kakashi in everything.

You're dreaming, Tsunade's blows litteraly destroyed parts of the landscape, maybe you forgot that she destroyed a street with a simple kick, opened the ground with a mere finger and swung the sword of Gamabunta without even sweating?

Gai's strong but in front of Tsunade's physical strength it's a joke.

We don't know the full extent of Gai's strenght. We do know that he can blast make a whole through a building with a push and even a person in between. So you can't say gai's strong but a joke in front of Tsunade.

And you know. The first thing actually proves that Gai is more of a match. Gai's taijutsu skills make up him equal to Kakashi's ninjutsu. But against Itachi, I would think taijutsu would be the better choice, and not only that Gai devised a fighting stykle to bypass the sharingan's effects. So Gai should do better against Itachi(You sound like you are saying he would do as good as Kakashi against Itachi... do you really think so?)

I can and I did.
Gai is strong but he's not legendary, the way Gai made the sound nin pass through a wall during the war was impressive.
But it's nothing compared to what Tsunade did without even seeming to force herself when she destroyed a street with a mere kick or worse when she swung Gamabunta's sword.
In term of Taijutsu and speed Gai seems way better than Tsunade but in term of pure raw physical strength they just don't play in the same category.

Yes it would be the better choice because like I said against a Sharingan user such as Itachi usual Ninjutsu and Genjutsu are basically almost useless (I insist on 'usual', I don't speak of a Kage level fight).
But I don't see how it could be enough and by far.

Does Gai would do better against Itachi than Kakashi?
I don't really know, he has the ability to avoid the genjutsu effect of the Sharingan but at the opposite of Kakashi he hasn't the same insight to avoid the more regular jutsu of Itachi (and i don't speak of the Amaterasu given that we still wait to know how it works).

Here the point, Gai is a Taijutsu specialist, Itachi can beat him in no-time very easily, why?
A simple use of his explosive Kage Bunshin. Everybody is impressed by the Tsukiyomi but this jutsu is overkill as well, Gai who fight in close combat would be in huge trouble because of this jutsu.
Without speaking that against the level of Sharingan of Itachi, being simply faster than him wouldn't help at all.
Spoiler:

So in the end does Gai would do better than Kakashi, I think so because in the end Kakashi was crushed extremely quickly.
But much longer and during a way more difficult fight?
Frankly I don't think so, as I said even with the very few moves that we saw from Itachi Gai would be seriously in trouble.

Also mai I add that Gai have the Trick for the Sharingan, But still he is evenly match with Kakshi....

For Itachi, Gai well be fast, but stiill his sharingan would try to keep up with his speed...sorry but Gai is no Match for Itachi...there are simply not in the same level.

And what about Gai's "KONOHA STRONG WHIRLWIND"? Kisame didn't even knew what hit him.. [EPISODE 82]
And he also says something about "Konoha's Noble Blue Beast". I guess that's his name for doing something heroic in the past wars?

There is no proof that Itachi's sharingan has better reading than kakashi's. Their both at same lvl, all we know about mange is it allows certain moves, not that it can read an opponent better. For Gai to be able to match up with kakashi he would have to be fast enough to be able to hit him..I would guess its the same for Itachi.

I wouldn't make the assumption that Gai's taijutsu is better than Itachi's. We haven't seen much of Itachi's taijutsu,
Spoiler:
and, in a combination with a counter-attacking genjutsu, was enough to defeat Kurenai in a few seconds.

Did you read wath have you just put in there??????????????????

I dont need no proof for that Clearly Itachi Sharinganis way better reading than Kakshi.............

i got 2 Reasons..............

A) is in a Uchiha Body...were it works the best (said By Itachi himself)

B) He got 2 sharingan eyes...and the last time Cheked someone with 2 eyes can see better than someone with one eye!

and BTW, if Kakashi is as the same Lvl of reading than Itachi...Why Itachi had the upperhand in the battle?

Genei Killua you forgot the spoiler tags :/

And if it's true that Itachi seems really good in Taijutsu and speed as well, I wouldn't say yet that he's on the level of Gai yet.

It's always difficult to judge the difference of speed between two characters when they didn't fight each other and it's even more difficult in the case of Itachi because we really didn't see him much.

But in the end if Kakashi can deal with Gai's speed, so does Itachi even if we don't know the extent of his Taijutsu abilities.
