A virii (worm) writer looking for a job

Cheeky virus writers have put a secret message in the latest versions of the MyDoom e-mail worm asking antivirus vendors for a job. MyDoom.V and MyDoom.U contain a malicious e-mail attachment that attempts to download a backdoor Trojan horse called Surila if the recipient tries to open the infected file.

Also secretly embedded inside the malicious code is a message to the antivirus industry: "We searching 4 work in AV industry."

It is not clear if the job request is entirely serious but if the virus authors thought that the antivirus industry would be impressed with their handiwork, they've opened a whole different can of worms.

Graham Clulely, senior technology consultant for antivirus firm Sophos, said no one in the industry would "touch them with a bargepole."

"It's very simple--if you write a virus, we will never, ever employ you," he said in a statement. "Not only is it deeply unethical to write malicious code, but it raises issues as to whether you could ever be trusted to develop the software which protects millions of users around the world from attack every day."

He also said the skills used to write viruses and fight viruses are very different. "Virus writers don't care if their code crashes or causes incompatibilities--you don't have to be a genius to write a virus."

Do you think is true what this guy says ??! I think they hire them under the table. To all of us consumers and stock holders, they say,we dont do that hehehe SUCKER I wonder what happened if the antivirus company said openly to the the stock holders on a open statement ..oh we hire virii writers and 15yr old kid worm writers, because they know more than us ..stocks goes down ..down ......or maybe not.

'Without the virii the antivirus software wouldnt have been created ..the old supply and demand thing that we need to make business run'

Interesting, but are those people the ones who created Virius Lupus?

You know the "sasser" worm? The coder was arrested some months ago in germany, today it's become public that he was hired by a security company which codes firewalls etc. The PR guy told the press that even if he will be ruled guilty, that this wont affect his employment.

You need fire to fight fire.
Would not you employ the devil to get rid of all evil in the world?

I wouldn't be suprised if a lot more of that happens (the stuff mentioned in Killerattacks' post): hackers and virus writers employer with a gun to their head - if they screw up, or mess around, they get thrown into the slammer :P

If my memory serves me correctly, there's actually a security company out there now that is offering a million dollars (U.S.) and a job to whoever manages to crack their encryption code.

Also, the plural of "virus" is, believe it or not, "viruses," not "virii."

Highering some one who makes a varient of a virus is like highering the guy who changes your oil to build you a new car from scratch.

Just because you can modify source code that is already avalible, does not mean you have a lot of programing skill.

Now as for the people who origionaly engineer the virus, that is somthing a bit differnt. Because they actualy had to sit down from nothing and write code that take advantage of a secerity hole that few people know about. . . They also have to know a good bit about computer security to find the holes in order to exployte them. where as, once again the people who make a varient of the existing code do not. They already have somthing that takes advantage of PC security, they just have to make it do what they want, once that securty is exployed.
