What happened Kyousuke? Based on his reaction, he doesn't to realize what he did at all.
I was just about to post this! Seriously, this was the most interesting thing I took from the episode. It's honestly not surprising when you stop and think about it, but I was taking Kyousuke's word this entire time so I had never even considered it. I can't help but feel this won't be expanded on too much.

Also, when all of Kirino's books fell on the ground, and it started raining EVEN HARDER, I was totally crying out for Kirino. Noooooooooooooo! I felt her pain. her precious manga, completely ruined.

And . . . was Kyousuke covering for Kirino when talking to Saori? Kirino's in the bathroom crying and Kyou's telling Saori there's nothing to worry about. That was interesting.

Loved the episode.

Wow. This episode was really odd, I assumed Ayase to be more understanding and open minded than how she was being show in this episode.

Poor Kyousuke is being Kirino's scape goat in all this mess. Kirino owes Kyousuke big time for all the bad rep and ball kicking he has been getting into because of her sister.

Good ep in general. Ayase's reaction at the start was a little creepy, even if she'd been worrying and stressing over her best friend's recent distance, but her reaction to the doujin was quite predictable. I don't think most people who get into anime start with stuff like that. To Kirino, it was a doujinshi about her favorite anime characters, but to Ayase it was just a bunch of pictures of little girls being violated in messed up ways. If she'd started out finding out that Kirino loves Meruru and watched it herself, then it wouldn't have been that severe.
Interesting reference to Miyazaki Tsutomu, BTW.

I liked Ayase's little message at the end. It sounds like, once she calmed down, she realized what Kyousuke was doing (and had done before). I wouldn't be surprised if she turns out to still like him a bit. After all, he's shown that he's completely willing to accept Kirino no matter what, and that he'll protect and help her even if he has to paint himself as an unspeakable monster. At the same time, it seems she realizes that the pair are treading dangerous ground. Forging a relationship when they'd become little more than strangers is dangerous as it is, but their relationship is founded on stuff depicting people with the same technical relationship becoming sexually intimate. Kyousuke's been shown earlier to have started struggling with some unwanted feelings and thoughts, so Ayase's warning at the end was quite valid.

Ok what.

Your friend has a secret that she is not willing to tell you. SO WHAT. Felt like watching Higurashi all over again. This is not even about the part where she discovers the doujins but before all of that. I guess I don't really understand the minds of teenage girls but this behaviour felt seriously unnatural for me.

Now for the good parts: The music change when Kyousuke walks to Ayase was just hilarious. As always he has the best lines in every episode. Asking his father with that retarded question and I LOVE MY SISTER >_> Oh I liked the text message at the end and that they finally can play outside of their rooms as well.

All in all a kinda confusing episode that got me on the wrong foot.

Definately hope this cour can expand on whats caused them to drift apart. Not sure how much the novels go into this.
Nope, the novel didn't really give an explanation yet either (Resolving that issue more than likely is the final flag in the Kirino route...wait, Oreimo is not a eroge...)

Didn't even thought of him...classic case of media using otaku stereotype to create moral panic...

They didn't mention it in the anime, but Kyousuke did mention (at least in his thought process) about how teenage girls are the one that hate otaku the most for various reasons (Kirino is just exception of exception...).

Ayase's age can be used as an argument for her reaction towards Kirino's hobbies. That and her apparent idolization of Kirino.

If we get a really crappy ending out of all of this, then they have to make a second season to properly wrap matters up; personally, I think it would be a bad thing to make Kyousuke go through all of those sacrifices for nothing. That would just be purely horrible development.

Also, they excluded a key scene that would have helped matters along. Bad move, unless they include it in a future episode.

Yup, but still has to beat Kira, the guy who won a war because his sister was crying...

Anyway, I really appreciated the way they did the episode, the backdrops and the bgm were so in point with the scenes...

11/10 for me

Man this ep was great there was much to love about it but for me the best bit was the start.
1st off we all know that how to make dramatic scenes more dramatic is add rain. As cliche as this maybe it's something I've just always found very amusing plus it does add the scene.
Oh and if you throw in perfectly timed lighting and thunder then hell yeah even better!

That scene may have been abit exaggerated for the tone of the series but I still liked it. It had a little flare to it which adds something instead of taking away.
Kirino glaring at Kyousuke to sort things out was highly amusing.

How many bullets has Kyousuke taken now, he would make for a great bodyguard
Props to the lad, he hangs in there despite everything that happens to him, he's indeed scored some serious karma points.

The bit where Kirino says Kyouske was ignoring her all this time was interesting, looking forward to explanation behind that when it would finally comes.

next ep some Manami love! <3

Yeah, I'm hoping that the story addresses the fact that Kirino seems to basically expect her brother to solve her problems and that Kyousuke is getting shafted in all this.

Also, despite my distaste for her anti-otaku stance, I keep hoping that Kyousuke and Ayase will end up together. That's going to take a lot of development to make work though.

Gonna just assume that everytime Kyosuke helps Kirino out, he's gonna take a critical hit to his reputation.

Ayase turned out to be a younger girl copy of their dad huh. Next episode is glasses girl's episode. Will Kyosuke take another hit to his rep?

I'm also a Ayase x Kyousuke fan, but especially since they're using the thirteen episode frame, it doesn't seem likely; The material from the light novel stamps the chance even lower. That text kindles the sliver of hope though.....

On another note, that homocidal Kotonoha (School Days) face she made in the beginning was cute.

USODA!!!!!! I know we were all thinking about it.

The big twist at the end of the series is that Ayase was a resident of Hinamizawa.

Kirino: Truth is I actually am in love with my brother.

Ayase: USODA!!! You're mine!!! You said you love me!!!

If you're talking about the rainy scene, that wasn't about Kirino hiding something. Ayase was trying to probe Kirino into fessing up; she (Ayase) knew something she didn't like was about to come up.

And she's only 14. Everything gets blown out of proportion at that difficult age, although going yandere is probably an artistic license.

Funny you brought that up. Ayase *does* mention about a congressman proposing a similar ban. Although she uses the ban more as additional proof that loli doujin culture is horrid.

Ayase has more than ample justification to be mad and disgusted at Kyousuke.

The beauty of Ayase's character is that I think I can empathize and understand how she's ticking, and she is REALLY no bad person. She has a crush on her idolized version of Kirino, and due to her personal history, she is conditioned to reject the otaku/anime culture. STILL, she's not just as much a denialist as some people seem to try to make her. She's still talking to Kyousuke about the incident, and she's accepting the evidence Kyousuke brought as genuine. She's not been calling it quits with Kirino on a whim, but for very clear reasons, and she's definitely hurting over it at least as much as Kirino. And when Kyousuke fed her the worst-case scenario, she didn't decide to reconcile with Kirino for selfish reasons, but out of concern for her. It became her duty to protect Kirino against the alleged hentai, and that superseded any personal misgivings she might feel about her hobby (which was probably the result of Kyousuke's tainting of her anyway).

In other words, she isn't a mere nutcase yandere, she is fairly PRINCIPLED at her core, and I maintain that she's genuinely kind at heart. It's just that she's operating on two wrong assumptions, one being her idolized view of Kirino, and the other being Kyousuke's story he fed her. Try to view things from this perspective, and you'll see that Ayase isn't bad in the least.

I'll come out: I'm a closet Ayase shipper. Essentially, she and Kyousuke (who never was an Otaku in the beginning) would make a pretty good match. Both are essentially normal people with the feet firmly planted on the ground. And I hope that in the long run, this awful lie between them will eventually be cleared up.
Thank you Mentar, I was getting worried after reading the first page of posts that I would continue reading the same kind of "hate" posts against Ayase for the next few pages before I got to write my own post.

And I totally agree with Mentar here, Ayase definitely seems like a genuinely nice girl who clearly cares a lot for Kirino. Although, I would really like to get some more details on "why" Ayase seems to find that kind of manga so "disgusting"/filthy. I'm sure it's not just 'stuff' she has heard from the news, it seems implied that something happened to her that made her have this hatred for otakus/dirty manga. So, hopefully they'll shed some light on that soon so some misunderstandings of Ayase can be cleared up a bit. I personally am an Ayase shipper myself, I too would like to see Ayase get together with Kyousuke. They do seem like a good fit, especially if Ayase is as nice as I think she really is, and once she realizes/finds out (if she ever does, lol - hopefully she does) why Kyousuke said the things he said, I think she'll find Kyousuke to be a very likable person and have new-found respect for him, just as how she respects Kirino in a way.

Anyway, on to one funny part, I lol'd so hard when his Dad said the same line that girl in the game said, the "Don't misunderstand, It's not like I looked into it for you"...HAhhAHhahAH

Decided to watch the episode again after my annoyance at both girls toned down.

I'm still not sold at all the yandere-ish melodrama of the first half, but props to Kirino for finally taking the initiative at the end to open up properly instead of always relying on Kyosuke to bail her out of her problems. I do likely believe that Ayase message at the end hint that she understands he wasn't really serious about his declaration, likely she knows it was a impulsive attempt to divert attention from Kirino's love of siscon manga.

I still stand by my opinion that Kyosuke is getting crucified for the sake of her sister. The last times I thought that the Golden Rule was in sore need of evocation for any character was for Kou and Tomoya, and ironically Kyosuke and Tomoya share the same voice actor. It would be a sheer crime against him and humanity if he doesn't get any karmic balancing any time soon.

Seems like the only one who can provide that ATM is this childhood friend of Kyousuke's. Though, I must say I didn't exactly find her that appealing during the few screentimes we've had of her, but I will reserve any judgments until I see more of her.

As of right now though, I still would like to see Kyousuke + Ayase. And while I'm not 100% sure, the way the "text-message" was read by Ayase did seem to imply that she somewhat understood, though she probably doesn't realize the full extent of just how much Kyousuke is sacrificing for Kirino...and once she finds out, I think she'll be all over kyousuke :].

Besides, what better way to get closer to your best friend? You'll now be sisters! ...(in-law)

Really? Is anime really that HATED in Japan? I mean sweet god the only thing I can think of to get a similar reaction from my friends would be child porn, that's it. They poke fun at me for the anime hobby but that's really it. I mean god this is either ridiculously overblown or Japanese society amazingly tight-assed about everything.

Kyosuke is also taking alot hits for the team. I hope the next episode focuses more on his relationships and personality.

While I like the idea of Kyousuke x Ayase, I don't think he'll win her over just by revealing how much he's sacrificed. She hates being lied to, remember? So revealing the deception could just make things worse.

Otaku have the misfortune of getting associated with a major child molester/murderer case in the 80s and have never really lived it down. The lolicon stuff (and remember, some of the games Kirino is into feature lolicon incest) probably doesn't help, ditto the fact that some otaku are just plain weird. Add onto the fact that Japan is a conformist oriented society and... well, you get the picture.

Although, as others have pointed out, Ayase is also probably more militant about this kind of stuff than most due to her family background (not mentioned in the anime).
