Erm is this for real?

Manga is the Japanese for "Comics" basically, literally meaning "iressponsible pictures" it is used to refer to comics either in the Japanese style or originating from Japan.

Where you are getting confused is that one of the first companies to try to bring Anime to the mainstream western audience (back in the late 80's early 90's) Island Communications renamed themselves "Manga Entertainment" and therefore caused a lot of confusion around what the genre should be called (Japanese animation was mistakenly called "Manga" because of this for a lot of newcomers to the fold).

I dont want to make the explanation too long so instead search for Manga Entertainment here on the forums as I remember a whole thread devoted to the beginnings of the western Anime market and the sort of titles that initially were brought over.

I'll leave series reccomendations to the others, however I always thought Video Girl Ai was a fairly good feeling romantic story (for a Shounen Manga).

You can get unlicensed manga's here

http://www.prutser.com/ a site by our personal god GHDpro (the creator of animesuki)

or you can get alot of stuff here

http://manganews.net/

Another source to get unlicensed manga is IRC but that requires a lot more effort and patience.

Also you have to beware of the fact that manga is read from right to left, unlike American comics which is the exact opposite.

animeeshon is the katakana way to write the english word animation. Katakana (and hiragana) write words according to the sounds they are composed of. Off course the japanese can only use sounds which are available in the japanese language...

Yes I know that. That's exactly why I always have thought anime shouldn't be translated as animation but as cartoon. You know, because animeeshon is already the japanese equal of animation but apparently I was wrong.
