I cannot tolerate Kirino's abusive behaviour towards her brother because the author never showed us any hint that Kirino was wronged by Kyousuke in the past.
I doubt that Kyou would have done something awful to his sister because:
1. he is a really nice guy
2. he never sounds guilty and never recalls the event in his internal monologues.

Whatever happened in their past cannot justify the level of abuse and ungratefulness that Kirino shows to her brother.

Someone said that Kirino never asked for his help but that's not entirely true. During the Ayase incident, she casted a side glance at him that was clearly saying "do something about this NOW!". And she forced him to accompany her on a Christmas date as compensation for looking at porn sites on her laptop. During the date she also forced him to buy her a present. She never thanked him after that single time in episode 3.
Even if someone helps you without being prompted, you should at least show him some gratefulness!

There is a theory that Kirino is actually a brocon and acts in the way she acts because she doesn't want to become too close to her brother. But there is a difference between keeping your distance and being outright abusive! I cannot justify her behaviour either way. To me she is a flawed character and I hope that Kyousuke will break her little black heart once and for all. But I know this won't happen.
I'll just keep following this show for the awesome secondary characters.

This is a fine example of taking things at face value only though...

Firstly Kirino is only that abusive to her brother. Why?

Secondly, you don't ask someone you hate/look down upon for favors/help, ever. That is assuming you have an ounce of self-respect and Kirino probably has too much of it. Oh, the backward 'Oi do something, now!' glance was one of the cutest thing she's ever done

The Christmas date, as well as the Comicon, were delibrate attempts to blackmail Kyousuke into something that he would otherwise never prompt to do with Kirino. Of course Kirino would never outright ask for these 'favors' either, so these 'slips' were readily seized upon. And no, a girl who doesn't even like you won't wear the present you just gave her right away, and definately not in front of you!

There doesn't have to be any specific act on Kyousuke's part for the relationship to have gone downhill like this. Plenty of real-life sibling interactions will tell you that small misunderstandings and missteps, combined with the strain of living together for an extended period of time, can lead to the situation we see in the show. It's an extreme example, no doubt, but it does happen. Especially with teenagers.

Really, I think the analysis of which side of Kirino is "fake" or "real" or whatever is missing the point a fair bit. Her behavior and personality change based on the situation, but that doesn't mean that she's deliberately hiding some aspect of herself to keep up appearances, especially considering that we're talking about social spheres that don't intersect much if at all — she just acts differently in different environments. It's common for even the most kindhearted of people to have longstanding issues with family over ridiculously petty things.

After following this show episode after episode I thought Kirino might change her attitude towards her brother a bit... in fact she does it though and she hates showing it....

What I feel is there must have been something that made their bond to become like the way it was now and we prolly would get to see it near the end. So I don't expect any huge changes between their interactions and slowly it seems Kyousuke is also interacting with her friends as well... which is different from his normal (rather boring interactions) with his neighbor girl.

I've thought that its all about her eroge hobbies, her attitude, and why she is such a spoiled little princess at times I just hate her lol, but now that small piece of ep9 , got me thinking its not about eroge anymore, it's really about self discovery, and what action(s), or amends she could do with the people she really loves. mmmmm.... interesting.

She did stated that she "just started to love it" and became part of who she is, but why eroge?

Maybe from the start as a way to have "some type" of relationship that may seems "close" to her brother in the first place. Even though is not real as in a REAL relation with siblings.
Ok, let's assume, for the sake of discussion, that Kirino secretly has a crush on her brother for a long time. However, she knows it is wrong to feel anything more than sibling love, so to vent out her frustrations, she plays these siscon games. She states that she wants to play them because they are cute, but in actuality, she wants them to fulfill her repressed desires.

She acts coldly towards Kyousuke because she does not want the truth to be found out about her (that she is secretly in love with her brother), and she denies it to herself because society views it as a negative.

In many ways, she might be playing these games because she can relate to them and her situation (what she perceives in her mind, not actual reality).

However, given all the reason she might act the way she does, she should not be treating Kyousuke the way she currently is. It is her character flaw and her weakness.

Is she learning anything from these games to help her in her real life situation? I don't truly believes she does. To her, it probably is a form of release and relief. It is also a way for her to fulfill her fantasies that she cannot in real life.

But a girl who wants to use you will. To me, Kirino took advantage of the situation and made her brother buy things for her since she did not have a boyfriend during Christmas. He was a replacement with all the perks without having to deal with the repayment and obligations of a boyfriend.

That is a good analogy, he is interacting with her friends. I've just realized something when he call Kuroneko ... in some level she seems to be more "interactive" then Manami. Kyousuke knows with Manami is a less "stressful" life , a more quite and "normal" interactive environment. Yet, with Kuroneko he may feels that its more interactive , and fun (if that fits). In some ways he looks at Kuroneko almost as if comparing to Kirino ( just for discussion sake ). They are both Anime otaku and they are both head strong, determine young ladies, with a side that is dere(except Kirino) with family.
Why didnt he just go ahead and call Manami, and choose to contact Kuroneko instead ... all I could say is...

"Kyousuke and Kuroneko sitting on a tree!

I think you are right in a way, Kuroneko might have something interesting to do besides Manami who leads your average normal life when Kyousuke is around. Ever since Kirino was brought to his life, he does seem to be looking for something interesting to do besides going through his usual route of going to school, then sleeping, then repeating.

Yes, I'd say there's a pretty good likelyhood for Kyousuke being on the Kirino route

I don't see her "path to eroge" as being all that different than mine, honestly -- I started with romance-themed anime, and became interested in the source material for those shows, and later branched out into other similar games. Being interested in one aspect of this hobby and digging further will inevitably lead you to other aspects of the hobby; as she said, all you have to do is start following the major Japanese "otaku" blog sites, and there's a never-ending procession of new, attractive works being released all the time.

So I do think that her sort of "stumbled into it" excuse seems pretty realistic. Why she stuck with it perhaps digs at some deeper issues, but I'm not sure you can dig too deeply. I don't think she "sought out" eroge, more like "it found her" -- she just happened to be receptive to it.
I could relate to that. I remember my first anime was Astroboy, my dad would turn on the tv on saturday morning and watch cartoons. I still remember when the first time that boy-robot flying around and saving its citizens from certain disastrous events, mesmerized me ( I think I had a crush on astroyboy, because I thought he was cute lol) so much, that I draw tons of pictures with him Then soon after was sailor moon (I had the outfit for halloween ), I've always consider myself as Sailor-Jupiter, but my first real adult anime was Robotech and Ranma 1/2. Robotech was an eye opening about relationships between people against impossible odds, and how strong the human spirit is really is. Ranma was more or less was the love-hate relationships with Ranma and Akane ( some how I've always relate to Akanes actions lol).

Soon after I started to fall in love with the RPGs like Final Fantasy and others, then I started to look for more Romantic Comedies Anime, started to watch J-TV, and soon after just got involved in other aspects of Otaku world. So in sense it found me, now I see what you mean. ^_^

And now, I see how it applies to Kirino

Wow am I late to the party. The best part, for me, was Saori. That was like, whoa. I thought she worked for that company, but she probably owns it or something even bigger.

I liked how all the other girls were depicted as being far better than Kirino. I know, that's usually the case but this time we saw how they are at home.

True, Saori voice is different, more mature... is it the same Seiyu?

Nothing beats Sailor Moon!

Honestly Saori looks older ... guessing in late 20ish and early 30ish. OH! maybe she actually a Seiyu in incognito He he he he....

I dont know, it does seems every ep all characters are gaining more insight about who they are are, including Kirino. She has gain some traits, we got to see her playing or acting like Kyousuke for a change even though she didnt realized it, or maybe she did...

Almost certainly the same actor. It's just the style of speaking. Normally she has this exaggerated nerd-speak that's trying to sound like a ninja or something, while at home she has an equally exaggerated "elegant lady" style of speaking. It's been pointed out earlier that she also types like a lady when talking on the internet.

Of course she is nice to her classmates and teachers, she has to maintan the image of the perfect student.
But we have hints of her real personality when she fights with Kuroneko. Basically, we see her true self when she interacts with people who know her secret, and it's not pleasant.

I don't care if she likes him or not. If she treats him like a rag, she doesn't deserve to be loved. I am saying that Kirino is a bad person who does nothing to deserve the praise she is getting. I can't understand how some viewers could even remotely like her beyond her nice looks.

That is, rather than being a model student who happens to be an anime/imoutoge fan as well, she's primarily a fan with a model student cover. The main reason is well, she knows if she admits as an otaku she'll be looked down upon, and what's more the job etc helps her buys the lifestyle and get parents off her back to avoid suspicion. She drops her jerkass behavior because she knows that that's not how a model student should act. Maybe she does like studying/work/athletic stuff too so the cover isn't a complete lie, but it's still hiding something as it's nowhere near the passion she has for her hobbies.

Now that we know that it's mostly a cover, I think it's clear that behind that Kirino is selfish and emotionally blunted. Sure, maybe there's even more dere hidden behind that as well (like how she says bad things toward Kuroneko but still keep her as friend, for example), but like Meo said here there's some other things that makes her plain selfish and emotionally blunted even without the dere coming into play.

And thus, with the emotional bluntness and lack of admonishment, maybe the reason her 'tsun' goes overboard sometimes is because she doesn't realize just how much it'd hurt other people, seeing as she rarely suffers the same thing. She knows it's bad, of course, but she doesn't know how bad it is or that in her mind, the other person deserves it anyway.

Spoiler for Long Reply Incoming:
People think they have it all under control, but when the facade breaks and the masquerade is exposed, then what? That was more or less what the first episode was, and most of everything that followed stems from her relative inability to deal with this fact that you can't hide something people deem undesirable under layers and layers of socially acceptable behavior. It takes years to build up a reputation, but one wrong move to bring it all down.

The fear of intimacy might be a cliched plot device you've seen everywhere, but it's used because it's real, and far more common than people realize. I suspect it's one of the major reasons why she's become who she is. She's afraid of intimacy because she's afraid of what people would think of her if they learn about what her secret hobby is. Every time someone came close to or discovered it she withdrew into a shell which forced Kyousuke to taunt karma and take the bullet. The next irony is that Kyousuke, pretty much the only person who accepted her without making excuses, is the person she treats like crap. Hell she treats Kuroneko and Saori like crap too, in a lesser extent because they share the hobby, while Kyousuke doesn't. In the same way she was likely emotionally blunted, she probably lived her life completely guarded and cautious of people finding out, such that because of this she really doesn't know how to deal with people who don't care what she likes. With Kyousuke deciding to just accept her for what she is, she really doesn't know how to deal with it, and simply deals with it in the usual snarky and distant sort of way.

And she pretty much came buckets when she finally got Rinko's sex scene. Hell she might have actually been sad when she got the bad/normal ending where the pair split. That should be good indicators that she also prefers the ultra Tsun approach.

The above 2 paragraph made me realize something that has been bothering me for a while: Why does she need to get him to play galge and eroge, and generally otaku activity, anyway? Considering that his job description as her life coach has him helping her out with real issues, being her proxy in things she can't be in person and taking the proverbial bullet when she needs a human shield. Add in the fact that he's chosen to accept her hobby in the first place. He really doesn't need to get pulled into the entire otaku culture he himself finds bothersome to really help her, yet she insists. Why? Occam's Razor says, at least by my application, is that she's getting him into it as perhaps her indirect way of bridging the gap. Considering how she immediately made a strong (if somewhat abusive) bond with Kuroneko and Saori, there's a likelihood that she's using it as a vehicle to do something from her end of the Tsun line. Maybe she's not completely conscious of it, but she was completely ecstatic when she actually managed to share this hobby with someone, that someone being her brother. I wouldn't be surprised if that was her motive all along under the pretense of life counseling.
