MacBook Air 11" & 1080 anime

Anyone around here that owns a MacBook Air 11" that could give some feedback on 1080 playback? Does it lag? Or it runs just fine?

ULV Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz + NVIDIA 320M?

Will likely hit 100% CPU utilization and drop frames, cause A/V desync on software decoding.

GPU-accelerated decoding should work fine though, the 320M is a great IGP with more power than many dedicated mobile GPUs. Not sure how you'd do that on OSX, since DXVA is a Windows thing. Maybe OSX uses VDPAU like Linux, or some form of CUDA/OpenCL decoding.

1.86 Ghz Core 2 Duo with Nvidia Geforce 320m. I think the 13 inch should handle it considering it's about the same performance of a Late 2006 Macbook Pro with a 2.16 GHz Core2 Duo processor and ATi Radeon X1600 Mobility Graphics. 11 may struggle since it's about 15.5% slower, but should handle it with a few dropped frames.

FYI the 13 inch model gets 2698 and 11 inch model gets 2280 on Geekbench. Macbook Pro (Late 2006) gets 2770.

quicktime x supports gpu acceleration and the 320m is a good igp.
it should run fine.

remember that QT is really bad for mkv and anime support (doesn't use libass and doesn't support ordered chapters). otoh, mplayer doesn't do gpu acceleration on mac osx.

The problem is, if you use perian, which is required for even to watch fansubs, it bypasses the GPU H264 encoder in Quicktime X. So, the OP are better off using mplayer for smoother playback with multiple processors that can help with 1080p playback.

Thanks for the feedback! My computer was having issues so I ended up thinking I was going to buy a new computer, but luckily for me the computer is back working so hopefully it will hold out at least until new MacBook Pros come out :P

I hope that Apple does something about the MBP13 so it's not still stuck on Penryn. Intel and NVIDIA finally came to an agreement, but the cross-licensing does not include Big Green getting QPI and DMI...

... so I have no idea what Apple's going to do with the MBP13, when it is refreshed.

Perhaps a Fusion APU? Apple's interest in AMD has grown as of late...

Maybe the low end MBP, we'll have to see power consumption of Llano based mobiles first. I doubt it for the MBA though, Ontario is an Atom killer, its cheap, more tolerable than Atom speed, cheap, efficient, and oh, did I mention cheap? The MBA uses a real ULV, switching to AMD would probably require Apple drop the base price to $500 at very most probably. It would still be overpriced considering the Thinkpad X120e, also using Ontario, will be starting at $400.

What about the new model that came out?

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...keyboards.html

My computer died a couple of weeks ago so I'm thinking about moving to one of these, but so far I mainly use it to watch anime, so it needs to keep up.

I bootcamp Win7 on my new macbook air (i7 1.8ghz) and it plays all 1080p video without any problems on the latest k-lite codec pack (using ffdshow). Some airs come with the slower Toshiba SSD which may potentially affect playback. Fortunately I got the quick SSD by Samsung. http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/p...-models-video/

Well, yeah, it's the new MBA, which has a newer, faster CPU...
