Spoiler for ep8:

Btw. thanks for all the hard work. Even with the delays we can hardly complain. After all you are doing all this in your free time.

Take however long you guys need! I probably won't even have time to read it until mid-March anyway.

Yeah, more time might actually be better, anyways. If it came out anytime before June, that would probably be a bad thing for me, since I'd start ignoring classes to read it XD.

Just curious, now that the PS3 sprites/backgrounds have been ripped, I was wondering if Witch-Hunt would be releasing that patch eventually, or if it would be left to the guy who ripped it.

We will never do such kind of patch.
As explained countlessly, such features are destined to the PS3 version: making a sprite/voice patch is plain piracy to begin with, considering you have to extract data from the original game, and using them in a way that was not intended. Would a company be glad their exclusive features are stolen and stapled on the original game, from which they don't get their due payment? I don't think so.

We do not condone that kind of actions, so don't expect any support from us. I guess it is also a bit useless to say it considering people will ignore it anyway, but we didn't give any approval for our script to be used this way either.

It would be a complete different story if there is an official PC port of it, requiring only translation of the script.

Well, it might be legal, if it would require the original disk to "rip" it and then insert it but yeah.

A different question might be: Does anyone consider translating the PS3 version (after all up to v3.55 there exists at least one project that can translate games on the fly without ripping - used in Tales of Vesperia PS3 fan-translation)?

But, actually, I prefer the original sprites anyway Voices might be nice though.

Making something similar to Mirror Moon's Realta Nua patch would be theorically in line with what we do. The issue is how it would be time consuming to do that, especially if we consider how our hands are full already.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I didn't know where to ask:

Has Ryukishi announced a "When They Cry 5" yet? Officially or unofficially?

I know that he's working on his "Higanbana no Saku Yoro ni" manga right now, but that's more horror than anything. That doesn't count in my book, especially since I consider it a side-project of his.

I don't know if it can be considered "official", but in EP8 tea party itself something implies that a new "when they cry" series will be made in the future.

Although I dunno how much a character's statement can be taken seriously.

Nanika no Naku Koro ni (何かのなく頃に)

"When the Something Cry"

Yep, REALLY too early to tell.

nah, he probably didn't refer to his Higanbana project...[hopefully]. that doesn't count as a"when they cry" [after all, it's not like umineko, he didn't even give it the title "when they cry"+number (5, in this case) ]. I believe it's really just a side project like you said.
plus, i think he referred to a new *novel*, and higanbana is just a manga [and I believe it'll stay that way. don't think he plans to make a novel for it].

Nah, I'm pretty sure "fan disk" means that it's a "disk for fans" - usually a spin-off or sequelish (that is, epilogue/extra content) thing?

Indeed.
A fan-disk is more of a bonus package usually consisting of small stories
that either gives more character insight or are just plain silly.

To take the Tsukihime series as an example.
Plus-disc had the usual short silly stories plus a few serious ones.
On the more unusual side, Kagetsu Tohya was one big story
which, while being a competent story, existed to give insight on the characters' more usual days
in comparsion to all the oddities and problems they usually had to deal with in Tsukihime.

IIRC they have a patch that lets you rip the voices from the PS2 version of F/SN and add them to the PC version. In theory (though there are, of course, people who went around this illegally), you'd need both the PC and PS2 versions to do this.

Though, uh, to make this work for Umineko, wouldn't you need a way to read BDs on your computer?
