Respectfully, I do think there's a good reason why it's the non-Kenshin fans who are the least deflated about this news. In part, it's sheer disappointment that an absolutely stellar manga arc that we've been craving since last century is still unadapted. But it's also that, knowing the material that this OVA is covering, we can see how misguided this project is. It makes no sense whatsoever - it's as if DEEN intentionally chose the dumbest possible way to bastardize the material.

As for Mari Okada, I like her a lot when she's really good. She tends to be better with original material (True Tears, AnoHana) but has done good adaptation work (Hourou Musuko). The problem is, she's never done anything remotely like RK and her style seems like a terrible fit.

True Tears was actually based on visual novel (according to the source), but the anime feature a total original story. Please edits it.

Despite sharing the same title, the anime series otherwise shares no relation with the original game, using a different storyline featuring different characters.

The true tears anime is original material, which you just said yourself. Guardian Enzo's post is correct.

OFF-TOPIC : But your are wrong, it was actually based on the game, although they are no connected in terms of relation but feature different story and different characters ! But I stop discuting True Tears' topic on this Kenshin thread.

As for Rurouni Kenshin, I hope that this is getting a Jinchu arc TV series, and it will probably announced at the end of second OVA.

I haven't read Kenshin, so anything they throw at me is new to me.
Please name one good work DEEN has done besides that and maybe Higurashi Kai in the last decade. All I see is a big pile of crap.

DEEN's reputation precedes itself at this point. Each work of theirs continues to be even more insulting. Maria Okada worked on the adaption of Fate/Stay Night and that really turned out terrible (Especially during the anime original parts which Okada most certainly put together), so there's more than enough reasons to be skeptical of Okada's abilties to do this type of story alone. Add in the usual corner cutting that DEEN does, another recent compilation work of theirs (F/S N UBW), and just how terrible they are in general.... And there literally is no hope to be had here.

There's also the fact that the very premise of this anime OVA is stupid as hell.

You have a point here. I would be pissed as well after hearing one of my favorite manga's would be made into an anime, but it'd be anime original. But it's a movie guys. You can't put a whole arc in 1 movie. I wonder who made the decision about the story.

As for DEEN, CODE E, Mission E, Giant Killing, Higurashi, Read or Die and most importantly Kenshin Trust & Betrayal. Well well would you look at that. It has the same director

I'm not saying I disagree about DEEN. They've done a lot of crap anime. But I do believe that when they hire the right staff and have a good budget (this is Kenshin, so it has to have a good budget) they can make it work.

It certainly wasn't DEEN yet 99% of the hate this crap will generate will be directed @ them.

What the fuck? Fate Stay Night was already airing for 3 months before Okada's first anime was aired.

I'm a massive fan of the manga and while I was disappointed as fuck I accept this decision because business wise it makes no sense to do what everyone here wanted.

The reason why Hunter X Hunter is getting a full remake with @ least 45 episodes whereas Kenshin gets an alternate perspective OVA is obvious.

Which one of those 2 manga series is still running? Anime is made to push something, whether it's a Sunrise mecha show to push their patent company Bandai's toys or Shueisha putting money behind Ao no Exorcist and than seeing their manga go from selling 70,000 copies with volume 4 to doing in excess of 600,000 with volume 6 in just 10 days.

HxH is just slightly more popular than RK when it comes to manga sales, but one thing is for sure is that its constant hiatuses has hurt it.

HxH is 1.94 mil per volume while RK is 1.92 mil. For comparison Dragonball is 3.71 mil, Yuyu Hakusho is 2.58 mil, Naruto is 1.98 mil and Bleach 1.41.

A HxH remake will provide a massive boost to the manga series, will make all the old tanks sell more and provide a jump for the current volumes. They look like they'll be getting at least 2-3 volumes a year.

If Kenshin was just a Revenge Arc animation than you alienate potential new fans. Starting it again is not really an option since there will be no new manga volumes to push. They have no idea how strong the old RK fanbase is in regards to buying DVDs/BDs. This is the test, if it fails they might break even, if a tv series flopped than ouch....

I know for a fact you'd enjoy Simoun, Shion no Ou and the Maria-sama ga Miteru seasons. Give them a try.

It might not be your cup of tea, but Junjou Romantica is definitely one of the best "recent" Studio DEEN animes. They did a great job.

Anyway, it's not Studio DEEN I am worried about, as long as the budget is adequate, I suppose. I just hope that the animation is more than just decent, but considering that this is Rurouni Kenshin we are talking about, I am trying to be optimistic.

The December issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine is announcing on Friday that the first half of the new Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen anime project will open in two Japanese theaters on December 7. It will run for one week only at Tokyo's Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro theater and Osaka's Cine-Libre Umeda theater.

The creators are asking fans to name the anime's first installment, and the winner's own name will be listed in the ending credits.
I've already submitted my entry - "Rurouni Kenshin - WTF Are You Thinking-Hen".

So it's actually gonna be running in theatres? Does that mean it's a film and not an OVA...?

And I nominate Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Rushed Story, as a callback to the original's full title.
