I love the thought of other Presters being awesome with kind benevolent Guilds and then ones worse than ours that ended up literally killing itself from the inside.

I can see people here and there criticizing Fam the Silver Wing for being not as serious as the original.

Why all the hate?

Is the prequel was really more "serious?"

I don't really see that.

And I'm confused to people that feel Fam's character is too comical, Zeus... Lavie is far more comical than Fam is. I really want detailed answer about this to people that feel like that. Its just contradicting.

Apparently, they feel that Moe Meido Cosplay, cute moe pubescent girls and Romantic Two Girls Friendship, or Shoujo-Ai, isn't in tune with what Last Exile stands for: Blood, War and serious angsty casts... :P

I'm afraid Gonzo is going to try to turn Last Exile into Last Exile: Strike Witches. Everything that I've seen, from lowering the average age of the characters, skewing the gender balance, and adding moe archetypes seems to be pointing in a bad direction. All that momentum from the first two episodes is gone and the gravity of the situation has been almost totally washed away.

I hope it isn't so, but as a fan of the original my confidence is dropping rapidly after the latest episode. it doesn't have to be a pound for pound remake. The least they could do is stop pandering so hard.

I double checked to make sure I wasn't seeing things (also looked at Madman Entertainment's stream). Look again at about 11:30-11:50, where Fam and Giselle were performing pre-flight checks. Giselle's outfit suddenly changes twice in the space of 7 seconds...

Perhaps it's due to a lot of the second half being mostly serious whereas the early stuff was equally a mix of light and dark, it's also proven that the new show's been very serious when it needs to be, both ep 2 and 3 proved this and 3 delivered a lot of respect to the fallen. I think both seasons hit both moods at various points, I mean how about the entire bar brawl encounter that basically served as light-hearted bonding between the new guys and the mechanics that ended with Alex comically humiliating the equally stupid ship commander in a way that was almost as humorous as the way Fam, Giselle and Olaf con an equally idiotic commander out of a ship.

Also, it's worth noting that the guy they con for the ship is the same exact idiot one they conned in the first ep (which is believable to me given the distance how little he probably could see of them with how dark it was not to mention their flight gear likely obscuring them even further), also note the uniform (and the ship), he's not part of Ades proper, probably just one of the lesser countries in the Federation. As mentioned on one of the other boards, Fam and the others have the real higher-up gray uniforms of the real forces of Ades likely adding to their "power" in the situation.

The notions of shoujo-ai and romance in the two girls friendship, at least so far, is so overblown by a tiny group, it's barely even there unless you're a fan wanting it as a positive.

Yeah, it's really neat and adds to the feel of the show's universe.

This could certainly be a possibility and the contrast would be great just like it was as the first three episodes progressed through multiple "tones", I kind of hope that's indeed the case or at least a good portion will follow through on it since I'm not sure the "end" itself would be darker since it's still a high adventure show just like the first one so I don't imagine it will end "dark" even if there's a darker mood leading up to the finale similar to last time with Delphine. I think it would be perfect to really see these characters face and have to adapt to all possible "atmospheres/moods" especially with how expressive they are and have been from happier moments to the introspective ones so far. And there's certainly enough darker undercurrent things to support such developments.

Yeah, and it ties in nicely to why there are indeed more people around on Earth that we'd link with the Guild even though the name has not been brought up yet and why they can be found among both Ades and Turan, and ofcourse ours in Al and Dio from our Prester.

But you have to admit: No person would go that far for a stranger they met on a mission. And Fam makes Millia blush. Fam's also prone to glomps, smiles and saying things boys say to girls.

Fam is seriously raising flags without her knowing it.

Oh please... you're overreacting, and yeah I read your post before this one, gosh that's the very definition of "nitpicking".

That scene with maid costume isn't even count as fanservice and not too feel out of place. If they want to make it as one, they can make the princess slipped n show her panties or something.

So far this show remind me a LOT to usual BONES and GONZO, god that's so nostalgic...

Honestly I feel like the moods (both light-hearted and serious) are about the same as the original. They've just been hit at different points and slightly different levels.

Also, the ages are only off by a few months if not just 1 year. Claus and Lavie were only 15 in the original, Tatiana and Alis were 17, Sophia was 19, etc. Fam and Gisey are both 15; Fam turning 16 sometime soon. Dio is now about 18 years of age. It's really not much of an age cut from the original.

The animation error with Gisey in the vanship is a complete animation error. Right before you see it see's already in costume. You see her usual flight clothes and then you see the costume again.

People are blowing the maid outfit out of proportion. It didn't even work that well in the first place...

Wait, what? I think someone is forgetting that Claus was also 15 in the first series, while Lavie was 14. Tatiana and Alister were only slightly older at 16, and Sophia, who looks like in her 20s, was actually just 19 at the time.

I can't really argue about how the gender balance among the main characters is skewed towards the female side of the spectrum, but this is nicely balanced out (in my mind) by the vast amount of males in the supporting cast (4 out of the 5 Ades generals are men for example).

LOL Yeah, they can add this into the "Goofs and Revealing Mistakes" that many movies have.

The way they've been portraying Fam (and likely her feelings at how well she was taken in by Giselle's family and how much that meant to her) it feels like she'd also do this for anyone who's lost virtually everything in the span of two days and has fallen so far in trying to build them back up when seeing them down. I'm not saying that there aren't any bits or crumbs for yuri fans to use if they'd like to though.

Yeah I also noted this, the outfit didn't even work at all for her, in one of those shows that outfit would have gotten lots of reactions and/or "wow, you look great in that" lines etc., here it got "uh, what the heck are you doing?/deadpan reactions".

Exactly, I too think that's an exaggeration even if we were to consider ep 5 lighter than the others the 4 out of the 5 were an excellent mix of light, serious, dark, epic, weighty and introspective with like all of maybe a few seconds of moe and/or fanservice and ep 5 is the first to have anything even close to something like the maid outfit (though I think it shows how far Millia being a princess is willing to go to build back up) but even that's hardly on the usual level these days and hardly "fanservice" as Fertygo points out if they really wanted to pander they could show her or the other girls in far more "revealing" clothes or half-naked like in most other shows that get away with that (even Fam's frilly underwear which has only appeared for like 20 seconds tops total is incredibly tame and non-showy compared to the stuff so many characters are shown in that barely cover their bodies in most shows these days) and it's certainly nothing like the perpetual no-pants of Strike Witches (which actually wasn't a bad show). Even the lighter first half of ep 4 despite containing some light hang-out friendship building, was actually almost a quarter made up of Giselle's great dissection of the Silvius plus the second half failed raid on the ship.

And...Millia's responsibility is to produce an heir so a coupling involving her would be a dead end unless the partner is a guy. Being the second female in line, she's just a tool for negotiating alliances thru marriage unless her older sister dies before leaving an heir.

I hate you XD...

In that perspective, please be reminded that Turan gov't is now in exile and is a defacto government with four employees.

All of you guys being too serious about this show is the reason why we cannot have nice things.

Saw the oops on Giselle back in her flight suit for a moment in the inbetween clip, heh But didn't note Millia lose the green jacket at all I think I see it the whole time, where was that?

old cliche:

"If you don't like it, don't watch it"

Remember this is a new series, a whole new beginning.
The shock for me is Dio alive and the only other thing Im looking forward to is and hopefully we see the Silvana again.

There was a single "It look good on you" comment and it came from Tatiana.

The original was totally serious. Just look at the chocobo rip-offs running around, the other pilots' nicknames, most of Mullin's antics, and at least half of the next episode previews. Yup, no silliness to be found here, no-siree-bob. Remember: there is absolutely nothing comical about a little girl running around a battleship with a bleating stuffed sheep.

Personally, I'm upset that they increased the average age of the show. Fam and Giselle are slightly older than what Claus and Lavie were (Fam is almost 16!), the the returning characters are 2 years older by virtue of aging, and Millia is way older than Alvis was. I want my stuffed sheep hugging loli back!
