nyaa down - again?
looks like nyaa.eu is down but the tracker on for animesuki shows the tracker as active. Some down/up websites list it is up for everyone but me while others say it is down. Anyone else experiencing problems? It has historically been a great repository for torrent files but is it time to start listing more than 1 choice for torrent files as well as including alternate trackers in the torrents due to the current problems with nyaa?

On August 2nd they did a server move (so main site, tracker, and name servers went down for a few hours), but that got resolved same day.
If your ISP has poorly implemented DNS caching, you may still be trying to access the old IP addresses. I'd first try (assuming Windows) closing your browser, open an administrative command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns hit enter and then type ipconfig /registerdns hit enter. Keeping the command prompt open, then type nslookup nyaa.eu. If it replies with a 95.143.192.x IP address, then you should be able to access the site. If you get the old 83.233.165.x IP address or no IP at all, your DNS server is outdated, so you can either wait a few more days for it to update, or track down a better Public DNS.

A reboot takes longer, and would only bypass the ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns steps. If you couldn't access the site, you would still want to open the command prompt to do at least an nslookup and possibly a tracert to help diagnose the problem, so there is no point in rebooting.

Windows users are a lot more used to rebooting to solve problems than using the command prompt. Rebooting definitely clears the DNS cache and thus eliminates cached records as a source of name-resolution problems.
For users who know their way around Windows, I've recommended and walked them through the ipconfig approach. In general, I recommend rebooting.

However, that provider does appear to have a lot more downtime than the average hosting company. Even their own status page is down, which says a lot: status.servainet.com AnimeSuki (torrent index; not forum) used to be hosted there too. We've moved a few months ago. |
