Shojii Gatoh? Consider me interested but sad at the same time. Why? Cause I'm on the FMP train and it seems like it might never leave the station again.

Interesting. Sort of a different, yet familiar style.

The official site has updated with staff comments from Honobu Yonezawa(the novel author who will, like all previous original authors in KadokawaxKyoani productions, do screenplay assistance), director Yasuhiro Takemoto and writer Shoji Gotoh.

The comments suggests that Yonezawa will play a big part in deciding where the direction the story is going, while the director says that he specifically wants to depict the "thorns of adolescence" and the processes of growth from it.

I hope it's a suspense with mystery, but NOTHING SUPERNATURAL, let's say: A lot of strange stuff happening but all can be explained with logic.

Not quite. Haruhi is the inverse actually. This is more in line with tales such as the aforementioned Sherlock Holmes, or even X-files when Scully gets to explain a case with cold logic.

Cheers.

Of the two new Kyoani works, it seems like the other project Chunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai! would be closer in resemblance to Haruhi. The Japanese Wikipedia page for Chunibyo says that the story paid various homages to the Haruhi Suzumiya series. The author for Chunibyo in the afterword also said that the main heroine Rikka Takanashi was initially modelled off Yuki Nagato, though in the end she didn't quite turn out that way.

Well, just finished the first book. While it feels a bit plain and kinda dull compared to the usual light novel, it was pretty interesting. Mystery-wise, it was nothing flashy, no murder, no crazy twist, just simple everyday mysteries. The strength of the story lies in the atmosphere and the characters. I really liked how each character have their own quirk but not really over the top and still believable. I also liked how simple and straightforward the story is.

With that said, I cant help to wonder on how will Kyoani make this appealing to otakus considering the jokes was subtle and there is almost no moe element and fanservice in the novel. Then again, after seeing the character design, Im sure theyll probably do something about it (Im counting on you Gatoh! ).

All in all, Im pretty excited to see the anime version.

Hah the Clannad duo is back! This makes it even more interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if Satoshi Fukube is the comic relief character, or even the straight man, Sakaguchi's voice is like the epitome of straight men.

Looks like Kadokawa really is going all out this time. Who cares about cultivating new seiyuu talents when we have Clannad and K-On! and Menma voices.
