That scene was a big WTF, but after reading the above I'll never be able to see it in the same way again.

LOL, amazing that you caught a few frames of it. That really made her livid.

Koyomi's dialogue with Tsukihi had to be the best part of the show. She seems to have a very mature side for her age.

Really loved the opener. Having seen some of Bake again recently, I really felt the transition was rather seamless, and in some ways Nise was even better (Visuals for one).

Really enjoyed the character development so far. The same visual imagination is around. It seems they got rid of most of the typography though, though I guess I never bothered to pause that much for it anyways .

Seems to be the good ol Bake I remember just with better visuals . 9/10

Glad to see Hitagi has isn't changed.

One must wonder how Araragi looks whenever he's playing/talking talking with Mayoi though.

I guess the lesson here is - when she's a ghost and no one else can see her:

-she's not a loli, no matter what she looks like;
-it's not a crime

For better or for worse (<--), the usual Shaft stuff was there, be it the screen of words or random changes to the art style at random times.

Nothing happened in this episode, but Mayoi clearly raising a "disappearing" flag was sad. Surprisingly interesting episode though, despite just characters talking (unnaturally). The usual, perhaps, for this author's works.
OP was boring, unfortunately. Song was nice, but otherwise, just a silhouette having a seizure.

Araragi not knowing Japanese was surprisingly though. Or did super-dense-protagonist-syndrome just temporarily shut his brain down...

Yeah, since Hachikuji isn't a normal existence it's easier to talk to her about things on his mind. It's not dragging people back into an abnormal world, but talking to someone who will always have to live in it.

Didn't like all the disappearing talk though at the end...We need to keep Hachikuji around...I mean come on she's a ghost so no reason she has to disappear any time soon. Hang in there!

Hitagi's studying....somewhat extreme.

And no dancing ED!?

Dam while Hitagi's parts at the beginning were great, I have to say Hachikuji stole the episode between her breaking the 4th wall twice and the "courage" scene(good thing this was animated despite screw ups ), she and Araragi had me laughing so very hard. I knew I missed this series, but I enjoyed this episode greatly more than I expected; the dialogue, animation, music, and facial expressions were as great as ever, so such a great a start for this season earns a 10 from me for this episode, thanks to Hachikuji. I hope Shaft keeps it up.

Visuals here were truly stunning. Pacing was good and brisk. Dialogue was sharp and smart. A pretty enjoyable watch overall.

That being said, I can kind of see where Sackett is coming from. Dialogue and plot events were a bit more breezy and maybe a touch less subtle here than in Bake, in my opinion. Everything seemed just a little bit louder, faster than how I remembered it in Bake. Still, this didn't bother me that much as the PV left me expecting such a change, so I will say that SHAFT gave fair warning here. Plus, prequels/sequels tend to amplify what made the original popular, imo. So it really is to be expected.

8/10 for Episode 1. Definitely looking forward to Episode 2.

Ahaha, when Hachi refers to him as Araragi - Yomiko this paper air plane just passes by in the foreground.

It's shit like that that I love about this series.

OP was meh. The episode itself was great. Having learnt just a little bit of Japanese compared to back in 2009, I can really appreciate the wittiness of the dialogue more, even if theres a ton of things I don't get.

The Shafts trademark pseudo backgrounds and visual humor at full force is quite refreshing, especially since in 2011 Madoka and Denpa Onna all opted for more realistic atomosphere.

Lots of little girls in compromising positions this episode. Guess more character introductions next week. Will probably be a while before any plot comes up.

Really? Hm, interesting... I guess characters I like made me expect from teenagers to act more mature and philosophical than Tsukihi, who I perceived as childish

By the way, what is her omelet-looking hairpin supposed to be?

It was absurdly hilarious, but what the hell was it all about... creative censoring, mute film reference, visualization of english wordplay...

I went into this episode pumped and a bit apprehensive, because despite seeing the first season twice and considering it one of my all time favourites I was worried if the franchise was as good as I remembered.

This episode answered that with a resounding "f*** yeah." I loved it. The bawdiness level was perhaps just a tad higher than my preference , but it's not like I was inclined to show the original to my more... "conservative" acquaintances anyway.

I like the theory of the roleplaying being symbolic, although I'm still wondering when on July 29th that was supposed to occur.

I don't know if the term is well known in Japan, but I'm pretty sure whoever came up with that gag was aware of it.
