The combination of Chinese New Year and Valentines is not exactly a good thing lol

You have to choose between spending time with family and valentine. Roses and presents become really expensive and hard to get.

Happy Chinese New Year! Well, my father is working tomorrow, so we aren't going to go out to eat Chinese food until sometime next week or so... but who knows.

Not a hard choice between overpriced dinner with your bf / gf or a free feast with your whole family XD. Besides, as long as there's a will in the guys, any day can be valentine.

新年好!

This year I have to do a big-ass report on Daoism. At least it'll be interesting to present.

I'm up for any holiday from any culture that involves a festival, fireworks, or parties.
Gregorian New Years or Lunar New Years... just twice the fun.

Go Tiger....

I have a tendency to refer to it as "year of the Taiga" around other anime fans I know.

And I'll be spending the afternoon of the 14th in downtown Vancouver with my date, meaning that I'll be getting the triple hit of crowds from Valentine's Day events, Chinese New Year events (in a city with a huge ethnic Chinese population), and Olympic events. Then again, that's kind of the point.

Be glad it is orchestra not lion dance lol. The worst thing that can happen is to sprain your ankle while hopping from a step to another and falling on it between your legs.

If Keita Suminoe is a real life character, he would benefit.

But then again over here, CNY is a chain of 5 holidays in a row for this year. So there will be plenty of time for belated V-days. For me, this year is special because the date is very close to which I leave the army.

Spoiler for Also, a tiger is still a cat so.....Nyaa~. :

Happy Valentine's day-cum-CNY people. All the best ahead for the rest of this year.

新年快樂, 祝各位步步高升, 如魚得水, 萬事如意.

And a happy valentines' on sunday. Have fun explaining why your girlfriend expects cash in a red pouch instead of choco.

Just came back from temple and a good hour worth of solemn prayer for the future!

Once again happy Chinese New years!

恭喜發財!

Fun tidbits:
1) Bonus: Happy Single Awareness Day.

2) Found this while searching for Kung Hei Fat Choy on Wikipedia. I'm jealous of the hell of a party time Vancouver must be having right now.

3) Why am I still up? I'm on the 22nd hour of doing so. Fine, I'll go snuff out a bit.

It's my zodiac year. By Chinese reckoning, I've already seen three-fifths of whatever life has to throw at me. I'm practically middle-aged!

Happy Chinese New Year! Good luck, good fortune to all. May it be a year of plenty, and may you enjoy progress in all endeavours.

Little late, but I saw this picture on Kurogane's blog and, being a major Toradora fan, thought it was too cute not to post.

Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year

Chinese New Year is coming up, so I thought I would make a thread for discussing customs, traditions, etc. for Chinese and other Asian new years I think they're absolutely fascinating!
It would be awesome for people who celebrate these holidays to talk about them some and then others can see, comment, and discuss/ask questions.
I'll start by posting two videos my Chinese friend showed our Culture Club today:

Spoiler for videos:
