miketyson@ I don't think they are dead. And I have the felling that Inori took some of Mana (yandere ) personalitylol. Anyway for you're question, I think that the boy only lost his minds when he saw the true situation and trying to give itself a truth less painful. Wich is * the Government and you're power are fake*.

I think Episode 3 revealed that Inori will kill if necessary to ensure survival (remember her about to shoot Yahiro). Episodes 6 and 8 don't help either. So in short, I learned nothing new about her with that scene.

That's why I find the scene pointless. I already knew she was going to beat up/kill those guys, and it didn't have any real consequence for anything in this episode (maybe later).

Not so fast bucko! The 17yrs old age limit still stands.

Which is why Shu x Inori is squick. It's already synonymous with Shu x Mana D:

God I'm posting a lot on this thread. Anyways, you obviously know that that was a joke, but these void rules are really flexible. You notice that the guy fainted when Shu pulled his void out? What, can he control if people faint or not?

8/10 just because Shu is being a badass in this episode.

Maybe. I mean Gai and Ayase didn't faint.

Neither did Tsugumi or Yahiro. This guy is the first person to do so since we learned that people no longer faint from having their Voids taken out.

Didn't you need to hold the hand of the people before pulling out to prevent them from getting unconscious (or whatever the instructions were that Gai gave in episode 12)?
Shuu obviously pulled that guy's void in the old normal way.

^Agreed.

In episode 13, Shu pulled out the void sword from Inori and it seems like Inori was unconscious at that time after Shu pulled it out in a normal way. (Though I will really love it when Inori see how badass Shu is everytime he uses her void...)

Like what Flawnalyst, these void rules are somewhat pretty flexible and we wouldn't know whether Shu can really control whether one will go unconscious or not when he pull the void out.

Perhaps this can be a new power he attain in the future when he evolve his king power.

Far as I know, yeah. Was just pointing out that Gai and Ayase weren't the only ones to do so.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Still doesn't explain how he can pull the void out without making eye contact though.

Shu did say he learned to control his void powers better in episode 12 or 13 didn't he? Or am I just playing tricks on myself?

That's pretty much the writers way of saying "We can now make up a whole load of things that Shu can now do"

Flawnalyst: if this was better-written you'd learn 1-2 things there, I think: she's still ruthless even when Gai isn't giving her orders anymore, and she's willing to lie to Shu (for what'll either be stupid reasons or due to having a bit of Mana in her now). As-is you only kinda learn the second, and even there it's not clear-cut, b/c Inori's generally been a total weirdo.

The "have to be under 17" rule with voids just seems like a plot convenience: if Shu could pull voids from everyone he'd be a lot harder to imprison / threaten like we saw in the early episodes, so adding an arbitrary age cutoff nerfs his ability enough to have a shot at ok dynamics.

I also can't shake a feeling that when this show was conceived the plot outline was pretty close to the Eureka 7 manga mashed up a bit with Code Geass style rebellions, but then at some point the good guys (funeral parlor, mostly) got de-aged to also be teenyboppers (either in response to the void rule, or just b/c it's anime).

Back to this specific episode: the one major highlight for me was Tsugumi's reaction to hearing Inori talk about missing Shu. That was just really funny, but also believable (Tsugumi's lonely, only really knows Ayase and Inori, decides to try talking with Inori for once, gets the kind of weirdo answer she knew was coming anyways).

I guess that could be the implications, but like you said, it's not written well-enough (or is too subtle) to carry out those implications correctly. Anyways, I think I got all the answers I need for right now.

I wouldn't mind so much about the comparisons, except in addition to not improving on anything it's compared to, I can't sense any passion coming from this anime. I'm always aware that a writer is controlling the story (I remember saying that I had the same problems with 5cm per second), which is why when Shu improved, all I could say was, "Oh, he became a leader now? Eh." I don't know if other people have this problem, as most of them are just glad that the show is getting better (and it is). But unfortunately, that feeling has not gone away since Episode 1.

Most of the passion seems to be in the world-building. Stuff like the "sound of the apocalypse," some of the settings (the various goofy towers, the cubical lock room from the beach episode, etc.), and some of the fight choreography. Not enough to hang a show on but a lot of effort's getting put into those aspects for sure.

But when it comes to the story, it kinda feels like two writers reluctantly combining two stories into a single one, with neither one fired up about the other's half of things.

Of note is that Shu's void measurement could not be measured. Inori's measurement was over 2000; hence, I believe that the theory Shu can pull his own void is now not possible, since it does not register.

As for why someone asked earlier that the students only checked on girls, it is possibly because they were horny bastards interested in taking off girls' clothing. They were ganging up on hot girls to fulfill their lust in the name of doing "justice". Similar events have happened in real life that can parallel these desires.
