easy... you don't. That's the whole beauty of the situation. The two Ichikas are always drawn to each other because of their similarities. At the same time, they are intrigued by how different they are beyond their gender.

The other girls are always hanging around him but when he tries to get some peace and quiet, it's always the female ichika who ends up there. standard shoujo fair y'know?

@ Eras
that's the spirit.

His type is the selfless, mature girl that firm on her words and dedication. Maybe because it's an antithesis of Ran, and kinda similar to his mom.

@ Demi
In short, the usual demotion

He has an Oedipus complex? Come on, the dysfuction's getting kinda overboard.

Oedipus complex? Hardly, it's a real life phenomenon and less squicky than it sound, just a little...old school.

It can be explained that since Dan lack a father figure (obscured on purpose), and his granddad is an ass, his vision of ideal parent would be his mother. And in his mind, the image of a good wife = image of his mother.

@ Demi
I don't know Scott Pilgrim, but I'm certain I HAVE to demote the harem, it just don't work.

Don't kids have those complexes and grow out of it?

True, it's sometimes go overboard and turn into Mother Complex which kids need to grow out of, this is not Dan's case, however. Therefore, it's never problematic, just that it formed what he is now, especially his type.

Does Dan have a Hot mom or something? Ichika seems to imply it.

Yeah, in ST at least, she looks 25, while actually she's 10 year older

EDIT: what's her name again? I kinda forgot.

Rem Gotanada. The family seems to have a fetish with 3 letter names. Ren, Ran, Gen, Dan.

or one kanji/syllable. Which is actually more applicable in japanese writing system.

There must be a way other than demotion. I mean demotion requires impeccable reasoning so as not to appear as an asspull. Or at least some serious pacing haha.

Demotion's the only way. Unless you want to make a full story for every heroine.

^ Exactly, My sis is new to this field, I can help, but you know my penchant for unnecessary drama might taint the mood of otherwise lighthearted story.

Houki's counterpart and her entire family already dead here, for example. Charlotte never born, Charles is, and while Dunois is a rich family, they're not as stuck up as canon and thus he is tolerated. Rin never came to I.S.A. (more like... not yet) and her counterpart died in an accident. Laura's counterpart didn't exist, and Cecilia... I dunno.

Why not just have them make appearances after their arc? Look at Bioware games: Crapload of party members, but they still have the spotlight from time to time.

Again, my incompetence and her inexperience might mess with stuff, just look at ST, it's pretty imbalanced. I do have a plan for Rin, Cecilia, Tatenashi, and Kanzashi.

Some spotlight will be provided, at worst they'll be secondary character, just not as much as canon.
