For some reason a voice was singing "I'm going to California!" in my head when Saber drew her sword...

I know he was crazy and all that, but I still shed a single tear during Caster's final moments.

Wow, Excalibur being activated was beautiful. And seeing Jeanne was great. Loved it.

It seems like Caster regained his sanity or something at the end.

This is a great episode. 3 heroic spirits working together as Saber delivers the finishing blow with her Noble Phantasm Excalibur. Caster thought he saw Jeanne, as he sees the light. Berserk-jet was no match for Lancer and later Gilgamesh.

Excalibur scene was pretty cool, but Kirei's smile upon apparently healing Kariya was the best part of the episode for me. Rejoice, Kirei, you've finally learned what pleasure is.

Caster's demise was fitting, much like Ryuunosuke's in the previous episode. Wish we had seen some sort of flashback of him and Jeanne beforehand, but it was an effective scene nonetheless. I'll miss the crazy bastard and kudos go to his seiyuu, Satoshi Tsuruoka, for perfectly breathing life into him.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed it. Aside from the Excalibur scene, the music really was a bit off this time, sadly.

If that's the case, then doesn't Gilgamesh deserve some credit as well? If it hadn't been for him taking care of Berserker at the end, Saber would've been forced to waste Excalibur on him (or worse, given he was about to unload a freaking M61 Vulcan on her), which would have probably left her at Caster's mercy afterwards.

I thought this episode was incredibly poignant in many ways. I liked Archer's speech at the end.

Saber's Excalibur scene was truly magnificent! Iri's monologue and the ost added such emotion to it.

I want more Jeanne now. Fate/Apocrypha anyone? She and Saber do have a striking resemblance (facial features, outfit design), I wouldn't be surprised if they if they got along (if that's even possible). If Jeanne got summoned in a Holy Grail with Gilgamesh would he have the same obsession with her as he does with Arturia?

Lancer is pretty much an "anti-berserker"

Whatever weapons or objects Berserker uses one touch from Lancer's spear and it turns back to normal.

Wait so did Kotomine kill Kariya? To me it looked like he had chosen as less painful method to kill him over stabbing him but now I'm not sure since others keep implying otherwise.

The only way it seem that Lancer can win the competition is to let Berserker eliminate everyone else first since Lancer can only win against him . well, as far as i can tell.

and yes, Kariya manage to avoid the good ending. Here's to the start of another banquet of despair.

That definitely looked more like a healing spell than any kind of offensive one. Plus, there's a reason Kirei was reminded of his conversation with Gilgamesh there. Putting aside his obsession with Kiritsugu, Kariya is the participant who interests Kirei the most in the war and thus it's only natural he wouldn't want him to leave the stage just yet.

Man, watching this episode while playing Jeanne D'Arc (a very under-rated PSP tactics game) was pretty surreal. I found out the first Blu-ray box sold over 45,000 copies and over $15 million dollars (or 1.9 billion yen). Now THIS is where your money goes, folks.

Sword of Promised Victory? check
DAT EXCALIBUUUR? check
More Rider? check

4.5/5

Yeah, the pilot got killed by the g-forces when Berserker started doing those cool aerial stunts.

It was very nice to see Jeanne there, despite knowing about this scene, I didn't expect that nice little cameo. The part with Caster was pretty good, they didn't overdo it, which makes it even better.

Saber's Excalibur was incredible, what a difference great graphics make, huh?

That was epic! Oh man. The most beautiful Excalibur, ever. Of course, I loved the Sword of Promised Victory rendition. It was a very subtle piece and it didn't overtake the scene and Iri's speech. Speaking of, I was waiting for Iri to say it's the Sword of Promised Victory but her description and all was excellent and really added to the scene.

As for everything else, awesome. Great strategy by our heroes and I was really wondering how Lancer was going to dispel his NP's effect. I didn't think he'd have to destory it, but it makes sense and it does work.

Kariya was really bad. I expected more from him. Kirei saving him just to see him suffer more was interesting since we are seeing Kirei change.

This is episode is another perfect example of why ufotable is perfect for Type-Moon.

Same. I understand the mechanics but it was just too easy. Would have been better if Lancer was on the bridge and jumped on the jet as it flew by.

As said, he saved him with healing magic. He wants to see him suffer more, it's why he was smiling.

And they stayed loyal to her character design too. Any other studio would have used their own.

Graphics? No. Direction, effort and passion.

I wonder if what Caster was going for there was "What have I become?" The light from Excalibur seemed to finally remind him of what his life was like before his madness, which probably came as a result of his faith being irreparably crushed after Jeanne's tragic demise. So yeah, a subtle yet poignant swan song for the two.

Spoiler for RIP Bluebeard x Jeanne:

True, though those effects they gave it did make me wonder whether Saber's true identity was really Heroic Spirit Son Goku.

Really? I didn't. The guy can barely sustain himself when Berserk is going wild, and without him his only weapon is a bunch of crappy insects. Against a fire user nonetheless. The result was painfully obvious from the start. Pun intended.

One Master-Servant team down, and five pairs to go...

I liked how Caster was reaching for Jeanne before dying. (They really included Jeanne!) As he approached his end, he clearly had a twinge of regret about his actions.

In my opinion, the highlight of this episode was when Saber used Excalibur. The brilliantly-animated scene coupled with the Kajiura-remix of Sword Of Promised Victory made my jaw drop.

And oh dear, poor Kariya, screaming and sending his insects to Tokiomi, (who was just standing there with that bored look on his face) only to get engulfed in flames and topple off the railings nearby and get discovered by a sadistic-looking Kotomine...

Anyway, 9/10 for this episode.
