Preliminary Phase II-1 - March 11, 2012
Sakura Kyōko - 3341 (48.16%) (64.55% excluding Ayumi's votes)
Tsugumi - 1835 (26.45%) (26.45% excluding Ayumi's votes)
Takahara Ayumi - 1762 (25.40%)

Preliminary Phase III-3 - April 12, 2012
Sakura Kyōko - 3157 (50.25%)
Tsugumi - 3126 (49.75%)

Guilty Crown ended in between the two matches which did boost Tsugumi. However, the bulk of going from nearly beating Tsugumi and Ayumi combined to nearly losing to Tsugumi is Kyouko taking a massive dive over the course of a month.

I don't think Iwasawa is as much of a default vote as some people think. Considering how strong Shana is, Yoshida Kazumi and Hecate should be a lot stronger if coming from a big series alone was enough to be popular. I think even Hecate has had more screentime than Iwasawa. I think people genuinely liked Iwasawa. In regards to Shiina, I think only a little luck or better would have been enough for her to make the main tournament. I think Shiina would probably be around Konoe Subaru or Mine Riko right now.

I've actually been quite surprised at the number of people who haven't watched Madoka. Including a bunch who seem reluctant because it's so hyped.

I wonder if it might be the way I felt about the Clannad characters before I watched Clannad. All I knew was that there were these fanatics talking about how "Clannad is life." Gave me a bit of hype backlash against them.

Then I watched the show and decided it actually was rather good (even if I do think the fanatics are still a little crazy).

On the other hand, you have girls like Iwasawa actually doing better than the Madoka girls...(Yep, I'm still fuming...), so I don't know how "series being old" can explain the phenomenon.

But then, Kanade will go 35-0 and win Nova easily anyway. The only one that I see getting remotely close is Kuroneko, since she's getting Season 2 with a storyline that would push her over the top. I see Homuhomu as this year's Eu-kun, aka can beat most lower tier girls but keep losing to just about anyone remotely stronger.
I think it is hate vote too since Madoka seems to be hated on more than Angel Beats or despite appearing for 3 episodes Iwasawa probably have less haters than you think.

I don't think there are Iwasawa hater. I was only hating on her right now b/c of her win over Mami way back, but that's it...(It's hard to hate on Iwasawa anyway, but I don't see how much love she would actually get also, seeing that her amount of appearance and Mami-sama are comparable...)

I was surprised that Kyoko is actually strong to begin with. I put her 3rd at best in terms of the Magi's popularity (behind Homura and Madoka), if not below Mami (limited to, well, Japan...)

Maybe the amount of AB fans are more than one think...

As for Shiina-chi - it's time to give someone else a chance to go 1-34...

Interestingly, last year's Saimoe Champion (Mami) is not playing in this year's ISML.

Though the assumed winner is (Homura and/or Misaka). Minus tomfoolery at the beginning on that year's run, and the random backlash that pretty much killed it.

Also the winners of Saimoe 2008, 2009, and 2010 are still present and accounted for. The 2005, 2006, and 2007 winners did try to get back in (as did the 2002 winner...Sakura), but just can't seem to manage enough votes anymore, even though Rika and Nanoha have had recent material (Higurashi Kira last year and the Nanoha movies "presently")...only Suiseiseki hasn't had material in years.

The Saimoe 2003 and 2004 winners have never been realistic contenders in ISML. They've only managed in Exhibition matches.

Just wanted to check back at this list I made after Round 1 in phase 1 listing the top 30+ girls by VF alone. At the end, Madoka was the biggest loser dropping out of my Nova top 32. Minami came in for Madoka in Nova and Mafuyu made it into Stella (I mistakenly chose 32 with 6 extra instead of 36 but still covered all girls except Minami and Mafuyu). Everyone in the top 32 of Stella made it(heck top 35 counting the extra list), with Mafuyu I guess replacing Minorin.

So while list didn't change much, strength changed here and there. You can tell the voters are still somewhat consistent. Iwasawa did pretty well from the beginning

Pretty meh info, but just wanted to check. Lastly a question, when will Day 1 schedule be released?

On the Madoka and Angel Beats discussion, maybe it's also related with the fact Madoka is a more serious story, so many of it fans may not be interested on ISML, or because of it's nature someone may love the show and still don't find the girls much moe (my case for instance).

I guess there are also going to be Nova and Stella type exhibition matches as well. To keep it at an even number for coding or for the sake of providing for both sides?

Probably to keep it even, since unlike last year the amount of non-exhibition matches is even.

Looking at Day 1 matchups...

Nova:
Not too many interesting matchup. Shoko v. Mato will tell whether Mato went back to her strength last year. Haqua v. Ayase is the only other one (Since they do have to same CV and their strength are not well defined, unless that many people follow the Oreimo LN...). Erio v. Kyoko gives some indication of whether Kyoko will go anywhere, but Erio was stronger than her throughout prelim, though.

On the other hand, after double checking with the Tier list, my top 2 interesting matchup are both inter-tier...

Stella:
Toyomo v. Nadeko is a premier matchup (although it has been said and done before already...). A Clannad civil war (Nagisa v. Kyou), Railgun civil war (Biribiri v. Kuroko), and a sister civil war (Yui v. Ui). But, as usual, since Stella would never provide many new matchups that haven't been done before, as muddle as those girls in the middle are, the matchup between them also provide nothing new (as in expected result, etc.) after everything is said and done.

It will be more interesting to see the proportion of the voters that even know who they are. 2 years is a long time for anime fans these days, let alone 7.

A shame that that statement is quite true. I just hope that match does not contain the lowest amount of voter interest.

On another note, I am having a hard time accessing the website. Maybe it is because so many people are trying to have their vote get across. I should probably wait an hour or two when the chaos settles and then place my vote.
