Yeah that got me pondering.
What need was there to censor his face?

Lol.

When I said show, I meant show his life actually getting ruined or him becoming murderuous. I didn't mean his face.

I don't remember if it was referenced in the anime, but in the manga it was said the Araya was expelled, arrested and sent to juvie (don't remember how he got out though). So I admit that ruined life is a bit exaggerated but you get what I mean.
As for now being murderous...he jammed a car's auto pilot and threw it at two people on a side-walk. If that doesn't scream psycho then I don't know what does.

Kuroyukihime said something to the effect of, "Don't worry you'll never have to see or be bullied by that guy ever again" in one of the episodes which to me basically implied that he'd been expelled and probably charged with assault. She also went out of her way to make sure he got the maximum possible social backlash by making sure he biffed her into a table.

That brings up another subject though, what is up with KYH and the self-sacrifice thing? That's twice now she's stepped right into blunt force trauma and gotten knocked around badly while being in the Accel World. It makes one want to come to the conclusion that the self-loathing thing runs so deep that she's outright suicidal and perhaps had been deliberately looking for a way to martyr herself for Haru.

Maybe one day they can make an epic side story that chronicles the epic journey of as now 3rd tier character Araya and his journey through Juvie hall while trying not to drop the soap, but for now I'd say there's more pressing matters to attend to like the A plot with Haru trying to deal with Cyan Pile and the B plot of Kuroyukihime's incapacitation.

to be fair the reason behind araya isnt that far fetched a lot of cases of a bully or a bullied killing someone after some incident abound all around the world, maybe the method was a little too dramatic, is quite funny how even kuroyukihime even points that "a knife would had done the work", but is quite easy to oneself fill the gap, from arayawas caugth in the act and he decided to attack them.

None of that was actually given in the anime, but if it were then there would've been no problem. That's mostly what I would have expected.

Sadly, the anime leaves out some important things (understandable with time constraints and all but still could prevent some misunderstandings)

You bring up a good point about KYH. Well, we do know that her avatar is Black, and in a metaphoric sense, black usually indicates the worse outcome. She even describes it has hideous. You add on top of that the fact that her family does not even visit her while she is on the verge of death. There is definitely something wrong going on in her life, even though outwardly, she seems to have everything.

We currently do not have any background information concerning KYH, as far as the real world is concerned. If she is from a broken family, then it is understandable that she could have suicidal tendencies. Maybe it is her way of repentance? She could feel that she is an awful person, and possibly needs to be punished? There is so much we don't know about her.

Yeah I'm kind of interested to find out more about her background too. There's like 11 volumes of the light novels or something though so I'd have to assume at least one of them deals with this. Whether that happens to be one of the ones that gets animated in this current run though is a different story altogether.

That's the entire point. The author's modus operandi is to have a useless protagonist with a power that virtually unexplainable. The last time he did that, we have THIRTY NOVELS, TWO ANIME SEASONS, TWO MANGA since he began and we have STILL no proper explanation how said protagonist's mystery power works beyond hints and fan speculation.

You are basically trying to find out what Chii-chan has 7 seasons ahead of time, stuff that hasn't been written down yet. Of course there will be no satisfiable answer.

The thirty novels you're talking about, what are they? To Aru Majutsu no Index?

Yup, the monster behind Index, or Railgun, or Heavy Object, Accel World, some Norse comedy, plus one recently started light novel series while none of the previous have even come close to completion is one and the same. But for his style of dense worlds of ludicrious detail, and "bottom-rank protagonist with mystery power" is probably what ties them altogether.

Except maybe Object, but that's the darkest of them all (par that new one I haven't looked up yet).

This is why I call him Niizuma Kamachi.

That's just overkill......
I thought To Aru finished at 22 novels, with New Testament being a continuation from it. You're telling me it hasn't even finished the primary plot? God damn....

Anyway, back on topic: don't diss the MC just because he's fat and thinks poorly of himself.
Trust me, there are other way worse than Haru. Hating a series because the main guy isn't what you expect doesn't make a lot of sense.
You can still hate the series, no problem there. Just don't try to rationalize that hate with some over-realistic explanation for why he can't be that powerful in basically a video-game.

It's because the said video game derives it's character from a real person. I've said this already but his avatar is completely different from his real self which the machine uses as a basis for character creation. The program, to quote, uses all of the person's innermost fear, desires, obsession, then filters out the useless emotion (I wonder how it judges what's useless and what's not), modeling a duel avatar designed specifically for combat.

So lets have a quick run through on Haru's fears, insecurities, desires and obsessions. He's afraid that his friends look down on him and only stick with him because they pity him. He's jealous of them. He's insecure about his figure, he's already acknowledge that he is an incurable, helpless, lowlife, a coward who cries all the time, and he desires to be free of the real worlds limitations. So if the machine incorporates a person's sense of inferiority, I don't get why he gets to have a rare, shiny and badass avatar. It should have been a bleak, dark, and ugly looking avatar (like KYH if we believe her statement) if it measures a person's sense of inferiority (unless of course, if the machine makes your avatar stronger or weaker based on how strong your sense of inferiority is as well).

Oh, I never said I hated the series nor the MC. I'm just stating facts from what I know of the series (Anime-wise) and questioning their validity and logic behind it.

that makes me wonder how some of the avatars ended looking so dumb, specially that square robot, the ninja and the iron maiden(i was expecting mechazawa in that bunch, specially since ash rller had that wakatomo-sama accent), or were those dummies?

The author names are different (Kawahara Reki for AW and SOA). Are they pen names for the same person?

The styles looks different too...

Wait, what? The author for AW and SAO is Kawahara Reki I think, not Kamachi >.> I'm pretty sure the one who wrote Index series and this one are different persons...
