I have knowledge of some of the characters' background but I'm not far in the novel myself to be honest. It depends on the questions asked, but I'll try to answer it the best I can.

I read this primarily in Chinese since my Japanese isn't that fluent (I'm self-taught).

The second picture is when Shidou first save Kotori back when she was stiill a spirit, while the picture of Shidou shielding Kotori was because Origami thought the spirit that kills her parents was Kotori and she tried to kill her.

Hmmm, to be exact, she is still a spirit, but her power is sealed with a kiss at the end of vol 4.

I don't think it's a flash back volume, although it does have a few flash back scene, but I have to check again to be sure since I just skimmed through it. As for Origami, vol 4 mainly deal with her and her fixation on revenge against the fire spirits that kills her parents, but I don't think there's an explanation about her stalkerish behaviour.

There's translation on baka-tsuki and the initial impression of who she is can be found there. In short: - she's a progidy, a hottie rank #3 the girl you wanna date in school - she's stoic most of the time, mysterious and anti-social - she's a hardcore stalker of the MC, she knows almost every daily activities of the MC like the bento's price he purchase half a year ago, she always stare at the MC in class and she sniff the MC's used gym cloth... - she hates the spirit, really hates them Also, her parents died in spacequake that the MC's sister caused years ago.
