The girls should follow suit and just do whatever they want too, until the their audience gets used to it and stop bitching about it. Let's be real, it's pretty twisted that their audience cares so much about their personal lives and whether they have boyfriends and whatnot.

There's a handshake event for AKB0048?
WTF....How do they do that while being criminals? lol..this is interesting...XD
Ep 7 sound like they're going to choose the next AKB0048 center girl.

In Asia in general, women are hold at much higher standards than men, expected to be pure and shizz while men can get off for doing bad things.
It's not just the fans...it's the society...

But boy groups do lose fans too when they start acting out too much. It's just that most people don't know what JE do because Johnny, the person running their company got a grip on media. Whatever bad news get sweep under quickly and people just forget it.

I personally have no problem with the dating ban on AKB. True that it's their life to do what they want...But you have no idea how crazy fangirls can be. I know cases where idol girl dating idol boy and the girl get death threats from the guy's fans. Oshima Yuko is currently acting in a drama with a member from a JE group, Arashi...and I seen some..comments from Arashi fans...bashing Yuko for just being in the same drama as Sho...

Well, the shittiness of society can only change if you challenge it. In fact, isn't that kind of the central theme for this anime? Talk about irony.

The fans behave like that because they have been spoiled. They think the idols have to be how they want them to be. It just comes down to the fact that nobody has the balls to get out from the "pure idol" concept, and try something different.

Actually the concept of AKB as idols you can meet and that you can actually talk to them and and shake hand at regular events is already a change. Before that idols were suppose to be "untouchable"

I agree the girls should have more freedom but that's just how the industry and society is... At least the management is lenient and let the girls date in secret.

I'm on your side in this, Kazu, but this is, after all, a pop group and not a political organization. I can't imagine anyone on the management side wanting to make any changes that might threaten the $200 million or more AKB earns each year.

A shame really, it is more enjoyable to see "who is banging who" or "who has married whom" in my opinion.

This show is freaking corny. Just about all of the drama is impossible to take seriously. Perhaps that's to expected from the creator of SDF Macross, but the cheesiness scale was ramped up to outrageous levels in these first two episodes. I couldn't stop smiling while watching this, but it was a sardonic smile. And despite all the cheese, this anime is rather good so far. The production values are impressive, the characters are decent, and I like the colorful futuristic settings used. And no matter how cheesy Kawamori's direction may be, he has a way of keeping me hooked to the screen. Must continue watching.

I'm so glad that "Idolm@cross" was made watchable for non-AKB48 fans like me. I'm honestly not fond of real-life idolism. But if I can keep getting a good anime with likable characters and a story that doesn't make me want to bash my head in the wall too much, I'll continue to be impressed.

Also, there's this girl named Sonata in an anime about music. I guess you could call her dancing style "Sonata Form".

Celebrity gossip in the west is just as obnoxious as idol purity in the east. Fans will always be obsessive busybodies, though.

It might be equally obnoxious but not equally offensive, since gossiping is just gossiping wheres fans in Japan seems to be expecting and demanding their idols to be pure and stuff.

But whatever. Life's a bitch either way.

To be fair, this phenomenon isn't entirely confined to Japan.

Quote:
Justin Bieber's fanatical followers have issued online death threats against Mariah Yeater, the older woman who claims to have fathered his love child after a backstage encounter....

Fans, meanwhile, took to Twitter, the microblogging site, on Thursday to launch a tirade of vitriolic threats at the woman.

Other fans circulated pictures that appeared to show her looking dishevelled, sporting a variety of piercings and tattoos and posing topless.

One young female fan 'BeccaLindsay' tweeted: "I could kill this b----, really she messes with my baby!!! SHE IS SOOO DEAD.

"Don't mess with the Beliebers and don't make us go REALLY protective over Justin Bieber! Marian Yeater, really leave him alone, we don't want you ... She is such a s---. F*** her ... She is just a whore."

Another admirer, 'EvelynHorwitz', who describes herself as a "real Belieber" tweeted: "We all have our little fantasies and dreams about having Justin's babies but you just need help. Sincerely, Beliebers.

"Mariah Yeater is pregnant with Justin Bieber's child. Also Barack Obama is white and Michael Jackson is still alive living on a unicorn farm."

She added a poem: "Dear Mariah Yeater, Roses are red, violets are blue, stay away from Bieber or Beliebers will kill you."

Equally venomous in her hatred for Yeater was 'Emma Grande', posting: "Mariah Yeater blames Justin Bieber cause she's pregnant. "Hoe. B---. Moneywh---. Slut. GO DIE B----."

And 'Karen Ortiz B' threatened: "GO AWAY BEFORE MILLIONS OF BELIEBERS KILL YOU ...

"WAYS TO GET ME MAD? Tell the world you're pregnant off Justin Bieber and I'll go for you."

Pictures of the woman appear to have posed topless wearing only skimpy black knickers for pictures posted on social networking sites.

The shots show off tattoos of stars on her midriff and wrist and two red bows on her back.

Yeater, who claims the teen pop idol got her pregnant during 30 seconds of passion in a lavatory backstage at a concert, poses for several pictures in a bathroom.
Given the number of teenage girls in AKB48 and the associated acts, I have a hard time believing all of them stick to the rules, or that the management has a serious expectation that they will. What matters is keeping it out of the press -- like they used to say in Mission Impossible, "If you're caught, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions."

Lol Wut? Talk about clueless.

They are called "idols" for a reason. Granted, it no longer means exactly what it does in English, but look up what the word idol actually means.

Get out from the idol concept, sure, there are plenty of those in Japan too. They are called *shock* regular pop stars. There is plenty of gossip about who is dating who and who is sleeping with who in the gossip column. This is every bit identical to western celebrity news. Idols are just a very visible niche in Japanese entertainment subculture.

The only problem with this is that then AKB would be evaluated on their abilities rather than their image only. And let's be honest, these girls are neither good singers, good dancers, hell not even good voice actors. The idol image is important because it is what draws people to them. Otherwise they have no appeal and no reason to exist.

That's why Yuko is running home with a cardboard box on her head. You can't say they're dating if you got nothing to prove it.
Many of the girls are already 18 or over 20, I highly doubt they actually follow the rules especially since they're acting or go on TV and get acquainted with other male celebs. The oldest is Mariko at 26, I call bull if she never dated.

Around 9:18 Oshima Yuko is talking with an ex AKB member and SDN member about men, she even said she made lunch for someone she like that day. They're dating in secret.

Indeed. They just have to extra careful of the paparazzi and we know how desperate those people can be for a scoop.

Just 1 definitive picture can be career ending for an idol. The list of idols who ended their careers because something like this is very very long.

Just think of how big such a scoop would be.

Though reality check, given how dark the entertainment industry is in China and Korea, I would be seriously surprised if Japan was exempt. Akimoto is probably banging all of these girls in private in exchange for making them what they are.

Not really accusing. Just being logical.

I mean entertainment is a well known front for the Yakuza. I would seriously be surprised if something like this was not occurring. This has been documented numerous times with pop stars and actors and their production companies. Especially, for stars that are on the verge of getting cut.

This has never been reported with an idol group, but given how often these idols get cut... I just wouldn't be surprised.

But this is off topic again.

Yes stuffs like that happen but Yasushi is respected by the girls and he even have a family and a young daughter. Saying he could be having bedroom deals with the girls isn't something I want to think about and there's really no bad rumors about him either.

Is there a link proving this? All I know is that the Yakuza underworld (as they have been condemned and driven to the point of near-extinction) prefers to concentrate its efforts into gambling, porn, pachinko, money laundering, smuggling, loan sharking, and of course, extortion.

Just googling the words Yakuza and geinoukai (entertainment industry) brings up pages and pages of stories. Of course most of these stories never make it out of Japan, but I'll point you to one that's at least slightly known. Living in Japan gets me a big number if these stories all the time.

Heard of Shimada Shinsuke? Probably the most popular Tv host, comedian, entertainer, and talent agency manager in Japan until last year. He was enigmatic and had the distinct old man + black shades look. If you are into Japan, you may have seen him before. He resigned in a flash last year because the paparazzi got tipped off and discovered his ties to organized crime I.e. the Yakuza.

The Yakuza are not extinct in the slightest. Just had their more explicit operations shut down because of their involvement in rigging Sumo at the national tournament in Aichi last year or was it last last year...

The Yakuza will never be extinct. There is this strange belief in Japanese society that organized crime is a necessary evil. They believe the only thing worse than organized crime is unorganized crime. They think the yakuza imparts a degree of discipline and honor among thieves. And it is true the Yakuza are not entirely evil. They helped the people of Kobe visibly and were much faster to respond than the JSDF during the Hanshin earthquake. They also donated huge sums to Tohoku and were active in helping people during this most recent disaster.

My friends and I have had several run ins with Yakuza in Nagoya. They stand out not just because of tattoos and what not, but because any group members are extraordinarily well dressed. They also saved one of my female friends from being harassed by some punks and escorted them to my place safely. That is a story of a lifetime though.

The mayor of Osaka has required all 37,000 city workers to list any tattoos they may have on their arms and legs. Because of the nuclear plant shutdowns, air conditioning this summer in public offices will be minimal, and city workers will be permitted to wear clothing that exposes their arms and legs. Apparently the concern is the connection between tattoos and the Yakuza. The mayor worries that citizens might feel intimidated during encounters with tattooed city officials.

Reporting of tattoos in more private areas that will not (hopefully) be exposed to the public is optional.

This idol/Yakuza discussion has had an interesting side to it, but I think it's time to move it to a new thread in
