This thread is dedicated to the fanfiction of "Genderbending" the characters of Hyouka.

No one requested it, I just saw the trend in the discussion thread and created it as a "preventative measure".

Well, I meant that the entire genderbending concept is obviously fanfiction (because it's non canon). Is there a better title? "Fan creation"? Or just "Genderbending (non-canon)"? I wanted to make it clear in the title that this isn't actually part of the show itself.

When I think about it, I do think that it's interesting that even if you gender bend the cast into their opposite, I don't think they'll be much change in the dynamics or interactions between them .... sign of good writing or bad?

When I brought up the idea of genderbenting the cast during a discussion, it was for the deliberate purpose of highlighting how Eru is not a taintless saint.

People were grilling Houtarou for relatively mundane issues while Eru keeps getting away scot-free just because she's a cute girl. I can say with extreme confidence that had the genders been swapped, people would be baying for GS-Eru's blood instead.

Which led to quite a fair-size discussion- the Genderbending of Hyou-ka was just a concept dropped in right in the middle of it. Now, of course, if that conversation got out to other places....

But the gist of it was to imagine Houtarou as a variant of a Nagato/Rei Expy (which was the closest fit to his apathetic nature, complete with an emotionless voice), and Eru as a Rich bishounen instead of a wealthy Ojou.

Odds are, it'll be Eru who is seen as rude, and Houtarou's behavior as merely a defensive mechanism to maintain personal privacy.

Yes, I think I can see where this is going.

Male Eru would certainly be reviled as a Stalkerish, overly-rich, spoiled brat who demands the attention of poor, harassed, introverted Female Houtaro, who would be a more snarkier , unique take of the same character archetype popularized by Rei Ayanami, and reinforced in recent times by Yuki Nagato. Genderbend Houtaro at his most apathetic, and imagine a dead-pan, quiet voice, and you'd get a similar character. Haters of this show would then be tarring Hotarou as Yuki Nagato boring Expy 99245 instead of Generic Harem protagonist 33563.

And Doujin authors would be hard at work exaggerating and sexualizing those tendencies to their logical conclusion.

With the realism in this show (unlike Haruhi of course)... even an on-a-whim fan-based short story of a Genderbent Ep 1 is actually plausible. Too plausible in fact, in that we'll be able to actually follow up everything without much resistance.

Anyway, your thoughts of a genderbent Mayaka?

A genderbent Houtarou and Satoshi would have yuri fans thoroughly pleased by now. In fact, it would likely improve Archon_Wing's take on this show by 200%.


As for a genderbent Mayaka... Hhhmm, that would be pretty different. You know, that actually makes me think of Aquarion EVOL's Andy minus the obsession with girls in general.

Change Satoshi into a female, and everyone would be tarring Hyou-ka as a Harem anime with an apathetic variant of the pathetic harem protagonist. At least, that's in the view of the haters.

Note that I do not regard Houtarou as one.
