Isn't it normal? Example: If Touma was born in April 2011 and Accelerator in February 2012 they would be in the same class according to Japanese school system. Since the story is still in November (I think) Touma can be 16 and Accelerator 15.

Why do you think that Accelerator younger than Touma? I think he looks older than Touma. I would like to hear feedback on this, it is quite an interesting question for me.

Touma is a 'greenhorn' or 'Amateur' because he isn't professionally trained in this line of work, in fact- this isn't his 'line of work' either as he's first and foremost a student not in the payroll of any organization.

Yes he now has experience and has developed his own skill-set, but he's still not a 'professional' by definition.

Well, despite his lack of "professionalism" the fact that he's cheated death multiple times is definitely saying something.

Like you said he's growing, and I feel like he's better the way he is in terms of his own personal growth and methods on how he gets the job done.

Nothing yet considering that is ZW story, Heavy Object, and the Valkryie novel project he's working on are getting released sooner than we think.

We probably won't hear anything about NT for a while I'm afraid.

As I said, it was an example, their ages could be reverse or they could be the same age. Yomikawa&Komoe went and greeted Accelerator, meaning it is likely Touma&Accelerator are in the same grade, as Komoe teaches Touma's class.
Though no sure, I think I read somewhere in the novel that Touma is 16.

Unofficially, 2 months before.

Officially, 1 month before, with cover art included.

jsbro, started translating the comments on haimura's site. xD he said he'll translate one volume a day. this guy's a fucking hero, i swear.

>The cover of Volume 1. I made the cover simple to show off Index, the core character.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp00.jpg
>The original version of Index had wavy hair rather than straight hair, but that was just me drawing according to my own tastes...

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp01.jpg
>The original design of Kamijou had him looking more of an adult than now.
>The change to a more deformed style continued in order to match the story, and it is not limited to just him.
>His height to head-size ratio here was too great to fit his entire body into light novel-sized illustrations and still have his expression easily visible.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp02.jpg
>There has not been much change in Stiyl's design from the very beginning. From top down, he wears a cape, a robe, a black shirt, and black pants.
>By the way, ever since their introduction in Volume 1, the gap between age and appearance in the magic side characters has been much greater than in the science side characters. There is a reason for this. See Kanzaki's rough for more.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp03.jpg
>I felt going almost too far would be perfect for Komoe-sensei, so she ended up like this.
>Her clothes are nothing more than kids clothes.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp04.jpg
>Kanzaki's design had a lot too it, so hers gave me the most trouble. At this stage, the cut of her jeans was only partway.
>(Continued from Stiyl's rough) When I read the first draft of Volume 1, I came away with the impression that it was the story of children rebelling against the reasoning of adults.
>That is why I thought Kamijou would have seen Stiyl and Kanzaki as adults that used reasonings and principles that a child would refuse to accept.
>At the time, I never thought Index would continue this long, so I went with my impression of the two and gave them designs that did not really match their ages...and by about Volume 7 I was starting to regret it.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp05.jpg
>I designed Mikoto as something of a wannabe kogyaru (<-Dated term, I know).
[TN: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kogal
>Just like the term kogyaru, the loose socks of her design were already dated at the time Volume 1 came out, but I still used them to show that the trends of Academy City are a bit off from those outside.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp06.jpg
>At this point, hidden signs of the coming deformed style are already visible.
>Kanzaki's jeans are completely cut here.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp07.jpg
>These are Komoe-sensei's beloved pajamas, but Index is wearing them at this point.
>This image of the people clearing field card was used for the back cover.
>To this day, I wish I had done a dramatic double page color illustration for Innocentius.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp08.jpg
>I altered Stiyl's eyes just a bit.
>I added the breast pocket to match the description in the text.
>The strap was never described in the text, so I made it a skull to match the rest of his design.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp09.jpg
>The illustration on the left is the original design of Index's gilding, but I changed it because I thought it looked too Incan.
>The illustrations here make it look like a thin embroidery, but it is actually an uneven relief.
>By the way, in the beginning of Volume 1, Index was not wearing any underwear. Most likely, she got some from Komoe-sensei partway through the novel.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp10.jpg
>At this point, I realized the wavy hair I had given Index did not match the description, so I frantically redid it.
>Her robe is bound at her waist, but she does not wear a belt. It is not shown in the roughs, but it has a U-shaped device (a bit like a pannier maybe?) that is sewn in between layers of cloth around the waist to prevent it from getting askew.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp11.jpg
>Before getting to work on the actual illustrations, I redrew Kamijou and Index one last time.
>I must not have been used to the more deformed style yet because his height to head-size ratio had yet to stabilize...
Index confirmed for not wearing underwear before Komoe-sensei came along.

You have to consider that just because they haven't publish it, doesn't mean Kamachi isn't done writing it.

Oh well, jsbro was bored enough to move onto illustration captions?

I second the sentiment of translating Heavy Object if he has the time and the will to do so. Three volumes behind the latest one...

Reading the Chinese names alone in Heavy Object nearly cause my eyes to explode... I don't want to resort to that if it could be helped... >.>

time for haimura's comments by js06:

>The cover of Volume 2. I wanted to show off the season, the place, and who the protagonist and heroine were.
>By the way, I intentionally made Volume 2's cover be in contrast to the pair on the first page after the cover.
[That would be this: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/in...ex_v02_001.jpg ]

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp14.jpg
>Starting from the left, this is Kamijou, Aureolus Izzard, and Himegami Aisa. Kamijou's body shape changes even more in Volume 2.
>His height to head size ratio still had not stabilized at this point, though. He looks a bit more stylish than this.
>Aureolus's real spirit is in his crocodile shoes. I never got to draw them for the actual novel, though.
>Himegami's outfit is just a basic shrine maiden outfit, so her design was incredibly easy.
>Please overlook that the illustrations sometimes have the red strings on her sleeves there and sometimes don’t…

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp15.jpg
>Starting from the left, this is Index, Stiyl, and Aleister. I think Index's body shape was a little more settled by this point than Kamijou's.
>Stiyl face has changed a bit more from Volume 1.
>I designed Aleister to be something like an alien in human skin. You know, where it looks like he could shoot beams from his eyes.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp16.jpg
>Starting from the left, this is the glasses girl, Aogami Pierce, and the frog-faced doctor. This was my one drawing of the glasses girl, so she kind of stands out...
>Aogami-kun took a bit of inspiration from a certain major RPG's protagonist. The doctor just looks like a quack.
>I digress a bit, but while drawing the frog doctor, I was thinking that things would be less interesting if every character was a conservative moe character or good looking guy.
>That thinking is what eventually led to Sherry and Vento.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp17.jpg
>This is Lancelot of the 13 Knights and the Aureolus Dummy. The 13 Knights' helmet is you-know-who from Kamen Rider Ryuki.
>Since there was no design difference between the dummy and the real Aureolus in a close up of the face, I decided to distinguish between the two characters with their facial expressions.
>The beheading sword, small bottle, and skewering spear were in the manuscript originally, but were never used in the final novel.

http://r-s.sakura.ne.jp/w/n/ilp19b.jpg
>This is Aureolus's equipment after revisions. The sword gun is simply what a real one looks like. The golden needles never showed up in the illustrations.
>Accelerator is in the Volume 2 roughs because, due to an editor's mistake, the plot of Volume 3 was sent to me along with the full text of Volume 2.
>Based on that plot, I decided to go ahead and draw him before being instructed to.
>Surprisingly, that design was approved as is.
>If that mistake had not occurred, it might be possible his design and character would have been completely different.
>And for more on Accelerator's design see the explanation with the Volume 3 roughs.
thank god for Miki's mistake. can't imagine Accelerator any other way.
