That is my belief; she isn't raising him to be Genji, but rather raising him to be her male version of 'Lady Murasaki'. Through his exploits, the aunt can teach the main character lessons of self-control, confidence, sexual prowess and likely other facets as the story progresses to make him into her ideal lover. She even professes in the first chapter that her favorite character was Lady Murasaki, we just assume because of gender roles that the main character will be Genji. I don't think that will be the case.

Of course, but consider that many of the primary characters in the tale of Genji were related to one another and that the first target that has been put before the main character is his cousin. He has also kissed and groped his aunt while fantasizing about having sex with her.

I don't think incest is some sort of barrier in this story.

I dunno, it's kinda hard seeing the aunt ever falling for what seems like a abit of idiot, sniveling fool of a brother.
Sure I wouldn't deny it outright(cause this is manga after all) but in this case rather hard to imagine.
Altho maybe just that the brother is the reason for her dislike for men, some thing stupid he during childhood.

I don't know much about Genji's exploits, but I have seen him referenced in other manga, specifically in Take Moon/Carnival Phantasm and Fujimura-kun Mates. In both cases, the Hikaru Genji plan was to raise someone into their ideal lover.
