Yes, in a sense it would be like like Tsubasa if sayaonora was a regular HS boy and Sakura was a regular HS girl.

If the Precures gets genderbended, the closest thing is the picture I can't link here.

I do not care for Look, I care for the concept of a mahou shonen.

HOW WOULD A MAHOU SHONEN WORK. What would make a boy become a mahou shonen and what not.

Well, I thought I answered that in part -- a transformation scene and magical battles to protect endangered humans. What more really are you looking for? A familiar perhaps?

Mythical Detective Loki and Suteki Tantei Labyrinth certainly qualify. I think you could make an argument for Negima, too.

I think that the closest to it that we'll actually see (in non-parody form) is Ronin Warriors / Saint Seiya.

My question is to why would they exist, which is a similar to what Madoka answered in terms of Magical Girl. As people here knows because to allow soul energy to power the universe.

Why would mahou shonen exist? What would their purpose be? What creates them?

What you're answering is shows which may or may not be to my preference. That is not my question.

I don't think Loki Ragnarok counts

I mean sure he's a shota, and yes he performs magic, but still...

If someone created a mahou shounen in the very same fashion with the same tropes as a mahou shoujo...?

(O\\\\\O)

Oh....oh my....

*nosebleed*

That.
Would.
Be.
AWESOME.

I'd watch the HELL out of THAT!

*perverted thoughts*

I think Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok comes close to mahou shounen....and yes, I enjoyed it very much and all the DVDs are sitting on my shelf.

Loki TOTALLY COUNTS! XD The little boy's got a MAGICAL WAND, a secret identity, angelic wings, and he chants spells, doesn't he!? He even has an annoyingly cute magical mascot that sits on his head!
Punya~an.

If it's those qualifications, D.N. Angel should count as well. I do consider it to be such.

Isn't that up to the creator to decide how he/she wants to use the characters? There's no strict law dictating why a mahou shoujo exist either =_=

I suppose the reason why a magical mascot would pick a guy over a girl is because you'll need a guy to do things that you can't get a girl to do... (Oh noes sexism!) Though quite frankly I don't know what difference a 10 yr old boy could make that a 10 yr old girl couldn't -_-

Now if it was a Mahou Danshi Koukousei on the other hand...

I could hardly think of a show that more perfectly defines mahou shounen, actually. It even follows all the rules of the mahou shoujo genre.

Some magical girl series have endings with the characters being practically a god, so I don't see a problem that .

Spoiler for Series spoilers for example:

Oh my.. ^^'
Aren't most of these gender bender shows though?
I.e. they abandon the shonen part when mahou comes into play.
