You surely haven't taste some of the strongest sambals from my country, Sis. One pinch and your mouth & tongue will be burned, and if it's gotten worse, your stomach can't take it and you'll be in the toilet for hours .

Yo neighbour, I know very well the kind of sambal you are describing. Your stomach will feel as if it's on fire for hours on end.

Yeah, that kind of sambal can give you "hell on earth" .

Wait, isn't this thread about durian? How come we talked about tofu, shrimp paste and sambal here?

Sambal in the morning....my stomach can never take it.

Maybe this thread should be renamed to "Stinky food"?lol. I guess it's my fault. I started talking abut tofu, then it transpires...into shrimp paste and sambal.

Anyway, going back to durian, has anyone tried durian tart before? It's surprisingly yummy and even those who despises durian actually takes a liking to it.

The list of durian-originated food Iíve tried so far:
Durian juice
Durian ice cream
Durian cake
Durian chips
Durian jenang (itís a Javanese, Iím not sure if thereís an English name for this food)

All of them taste great, but nothing beats the original fruit!

How about expanding it to "food unpleasant to the senses"? Has anyone here had "cabrito asado" aka roasted goat?

Have to confess, that it doesn't look too bad to me either.

In fact, it looks quite delicious in fact... (I'm a carnivore at heart...)

Wow, I smell something like Durian in the thread list.... Thanks MUAHAHAHA.

Goat, hmmm, all I know is that its serve in most Muslim festivities in my place. They prepare them as "papaitan".

Speaking of Durian as its the topic... Most are sold by kilos, which I find kinda unfair (who the hell eats the skin to include it in the weighing?). My last time eating it was in Cebu, P120 per kilo. My aunt adviced me to not drink sodas with it or it may kill me through hypertension.... duh? at least I'm smiling when I'm dead. I doubt its true.

Again weak. I can easily stomach that and find room for Kusaya.

*Munches on some durian*

I thought you were talking about the odor instead of taste.

Well, knowing that sambals are usually less painful then wasabi, and often taste good on its own, I think I can take your word for it. Never tried kimchi or anything of a kind myself, but most people I know who have couldn't stand it.

Though maybe you'd might be interested in visiting around just to test yourself There was this one shrimp sambal which makes wasabi tastes like an ice cream in comparison...

Odor, taste, anything short of mustard (which I'm allergic to) is fine with me.

I asked my Indonesian grandmother if she tried Durian before... she scolded me pretty harshly to never eat it for some reason. Something to do with the smell but mainly the high cholesterol. I just looked it up and the internet says Durians do not have any cholestoral, so I have no idea what she was going on about. I really wanna try it now!

I have to say that sambal ice cream sounds weirdly delicious for some reason, if I'm imagining it correctly... But I have not had anything frozen and spicy at the same time before. Does such a thing exist?

*Threw up.... That's disgusting. The usual one serve together with rice is better.

Well, you buy any ice cream flavour, then add some wasabi or dried chilli and there you go.

This thread surely gathers South-East Asian fellows together

As for me, I don't eat durians simply because I don't like it but my whole family loves it. Everyone around here's pretty much hyped when the "durian season" comes
