Recent Anime (2011-12)
I'm looking for an anime that has been / started airing very recently (within a year, so 2011-2012). Due to RL and such, I really haven't had the time nor energy to get into watching a series for the past couple years. Recently though, I've fallen into some free time in my hands, so I've been trying to catch up furiously.
I'm really okay with pretty much any genre, but my most picky requirements is that: I prefer a fairly original/creative plot. It doesn't have to be complex, but it has to be new or refreshing. I also like having a good, well developed female character (can be a side character). I have a bias towards romance as well, but it's not required. Here is my list (for 11-12 anime) Finished: Kami Nomi II Persona 4 IM@S <-- Was surprised how good it turned out to be IS Watching: Star Driver Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai Hyouka BokuTomo Planning to Watch: Madoka Magica <-- I'm anxious to watch based on what I heard ![]() Steins;Gate AnoHana Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka? |

I will try to offer you something different from your typical animes. You should try Mawaru Penguindrum. It's very different, with penguins and obsessive ex-girlfriends plus a trio of complex characters. Then there's also Tsuritama, using the theme of fishing that goes deeper with aliens, ducks, and a plethora of unique characters. Also, Jormungand. I have recently only started watching this myself (it's still airing). The insertion of random comedy is not something you would expect since it involves violence and child killers. Another is a good mystery/horror anime. It keeps you guessing until the very end. Chihayafuru offers a set of characters who undergo so much character development that you can't help but feel proud and satisfied to a certain extent. It also offers a strong romance plot which I guess you fancy. Chihayafuru has just been given the green light for a second season, and I for one couldn't be happier.

Let's see what I have.
Ahem: Natsuiro Kiseki - It's about 4 girls trying to create life lasting summer memories before an important friend moves away. The seiyuu's who do the voices for the girls are singers in real life and they've done a phenomenal job so far. I'm really enjoying it and I'm sure you will too. Fate/Zero - It's the prequel to Fate/Stay Night and it's about the tales of Rin's and Shirou's parents and their tales during the Holy Grail War, and the incidents that will lead up to Stay Night. Upotte!! - It's about a new teacher trying to adjust to a school where girls are trained to use guns. The girls deal with weird hi-jinks, fierce rivalries, and trying to make everyday a series of adventures and challenges.

Creative plot ehh? Developed Female characters...
Madoka Magica Just watch it Penguindrum Unusual plot, romance, strongly developed female characters Mirai Nikki Lots of plot twists, has a few holes, but not too bad I think. The female lead is developed (although it can be a bit uneven at times). Romance. Bunny Drop Not an action show, but I thought it was an interestingly different plot. Well developed female lead. Mysterious Girlfriend X Developed female lead. Romance. Different from most highschool romances as it's about what happens after the leads decide to become a couple.
