It usually went like this:

Parents: When are you going to cut your hair?
Endless Soul: Why would I do that?
Parents: Because only bad people grow their hair long
Endless Soul: ~points at the picture of Jesus hanging on the wall~ Well Jesus had long hair, and yet you think he's a good guy (I can't believe I actually used the "Jesus had long hair" argument)
Parents: Yes...well..that's different!

It usually went on and on, with me countering their every argument. I wasn't scoring any points with them, but Niffer always seemed to be snickering in the background.

You should have told them : if I cut my hair, I lose my strength. You wanted to see grandchildren, don't you?

Shorn hair historically was the mark of a slave, someone not-in-charge, or indentured servant. It was also was used to mean you were a servant of Rome (part of the "uniform").

The corporate dress codes, in general, have no purpose other than to remind you they own you. The company where my wife works - at her location there's no public contact other than voice, yet they have an inane dress code that makes a high school code manual look mature and it changes every few months. I used to dress what I'll call "academic style" at one company (casual jacket, collared shirt, no tie) and the whining that if I'd "just wear a tie" was hilariously pathetic when I'd ace every performance review. "cut your hair and wear a tie because its professional" ... No, professional is working your ass off to get it right on schedule, to go out of your way to protect the company's interests, knowing your needed skill sets, learning a new one at night for use the next day, etc etc.

Ever notice how the strictest dress codes are wielded onto the lowest paid employees? The ones who can least afford it?

Personally I'm fine with having to keep my hair short, what I don't like is how there's no reason for my school to force anyone who isn't fine with it.

I'll "defend to the death" your right to wear your hair any way you want. Chrome, crew, afro, metal, purple, whatever. Hair is a very personal statement and I have always thought employers were way out of line on the matter -- roughly akin to demanding you subscribe to certain politics or spiritual beliefs as a condition of employment.

I agree with you on that. I won't cut my goddamn hair for any job. Ponytail? Sure. One thing after another and it's all bullshit from there.

By the time I cut my hair, it was down to the back of my knees. When I did cut it, it was because I was tired of hassling with it, not for any job or anyone else.

As for clothes, at my current job I can easily get away with a screen t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. For a while, I was even wearing sandals, but that was because the AC wasn't working properly (and I work at an HVAC Controls company, go figure). They draw the line at shorts.

I guess I'm a criminal too. Shorts are almost a required uniform here.

awesome helm

now on hair topic, I used to have problems during my highschool time with the school regulation for hairs, it's ridiculous as for male the bang should never reach eyebrow, and in the back should not reach the collar.

and my parent didnt really like long hair on me they said, a male with long hairs look like a begger XD, but now they have no problem with it.
