Hokagou Tea Time, my friend. The character designer for the novel is actually K-on's head Character Designer under a penname. Thus, the similarities.

Here's how it goes...

K-On Character Design = Kokoro Connect (the LN)'s illustrator/"Original" Character Design (Horiguchi Yukiko)
Sora no Woto Character Design = Kokoro Connect (the anime)'s Character Design (Akai Toshifumi). Sora no Woto's original character design is actually by Kishida Mel.

And according to Akai's Wikipedia entry (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%B5%...BF%8A%E6%96%87), Akai respect Horiguchi (to the point that Akai has used "Horiguchi-kami" in his work), hence the similarity.

What's the story about? Straight-up love pentagon with body swap gimmick? I guess I'll have to pass then if it is. I like reading straight-up love story in manga, but watching it in anime or LN is just too excruciating for me due to the slow pace XD

No, it doesn't appear to be like that at all.

Spoiler for 3 chapters of manga and half an episode of anime:

Through 3 chapters of the manga and half the first ep of the anime, there is merely a hint of one member feeling something for another, and that is rejected out of hand. Actually, this far in, I'm not sure where the story is really going. There are multiple possibilities, and the situation may be somewhat darker than I expected.

And I'm enjoying it so far.

By the way, houkago is hou-ka-go: 放課後 "release-class-after," the normal Japanese word for "after school." The K-On band "Houkago Teatime" is "after-school tea-time."
