There's that too. Before it became its own story, F/Z's events were just the background story for F/SN, and those are almost always painful in nature because their purpose is usually to create the conflicts and situations which will end up being solved in the main story. So, even though lots of people blame Urobuchi for Fate/Zero's grimdark nature, it was actually always predetermined that it would be such a story, because F/SN is the one that's supposed to deliver on the conclusive and happier resolutions to the many tragic plot threads. Backstories like this can't help but be tragic in nature because if they weren't there wouldn't be a main story. Which is why I imagine the ending to Fate/Zero might not have been completely satisfying or cathartic to newcomers, especially when you think about how characters like Kirei, Gilgamesh and Zouken all got away scot-free.

I think most people who watched FZ actually liked those characters more than say, Saber, since we didn't see much of her in FZ.

I doubt anyone would like Zouken more than Saber.

What do you mean? Zouken is my hero!

Though I do find Kirei more interesting than Saber, to be honest.

Kotomine is the most interesting man in Zero.

You know it is true because the King finds him interesting.

Well of course. Kotomine is the most interesting character in the Fate verse.

So why was he lying down on the gash the attack made directly under where the grail was?

It didn't hit him. He dodged. That's straight from the book. The blow still made a pretty wide crater.

Anime physics. Laser beams have shockwaves.

Gilgamesh dodged it, but was caught in the intense shockwave of the Excalibur. It was so in the novel.

Because Excalibur is an Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm and thus made a huge mess out of the place, causing Gilgamesh to fall down into the rubble after dodging.

Not that we actually saw it, but it's the logical conclusion to arrive at given what we were shown.

And yeah, the novel does confirm he dodged it nimbly regardless.

Gilgamesh's nude scene was very girly. He was rocking the girly pose and he even covered himself up like a girl.

Shouldn't a king of the world not be ashamed to stand in the nude, especially when no one other than another male friend is present? Also, if he was gonna cover up, why do it like a little girl getting out of a pool? Tie it around your waist or something.

They needed to look for ways to censor it. Novel wise, he never covered himself and he was next to Kotomine naked and frame by flames.

This. Plus, it's technically the winter, even if they are surrounded by flames. Can get a bit nippy on the ol' nips, ya know?

In the novel, Gilgamesh's golden wang was against Kotomine's face.

But they cannot show that on TV.

Sad, eh?

Golden Wang of Babylon should totally be one of the BD version's extras then.

Don't worry, the manga will cover that like they covered Rider's with Waver.

Ok, that makes alot more sense then. it seemed way out of character for Gilgamesh to cover himself up like that.

Great episode, though Saber's parts just didn't seem anywhere near as good as the other parts. I just couldn't bring myself to care about her storyline with Lancelot. I was more like "get along with it" I understand her regret and it certainly wasn't bad, but for the face of the franchise it seems underwhelming.

I liked how the series really pursued everyone's hopes and dreams. The image of Kariya imagining what he wanted as he fell into those bugs and even ends up getting mocked by Sakura was heartbreaking. And then there's the most powerful part of the episode. Emiya just desperately trying to save anyone, anyone, just to vindicate what he did. Is it a selfish motion to maintain his sanity, or maybe an effort to make sure what he did was not in vain? The regret is just overwhelming, and it really serves as a hook into Fate/Stay Night. Will he be able to maybe live his hopes through someone that can?

And then there's Waver. He's a survivor. He has no other choice, but perhaps he can proceed through life wiser, and Rider makes his presence felt.

Also, Kirei has the mentality of a internet troll I see. And lol@ naked Gilgamesh. These two guys broke the douche meter.

We're also left with poor Rin and Sakura. They're gonna have to tough it out, and maybe go for revenge some day. Just tragedy all around, but that's what Fate/Zero is good at doing, and it was surely one hell of a journey. This anime pretty much left me with little I felt was missing in its 2nd half. 9/10
