Doesn't mean she's not a poor girl. Years of abuse took their toll on her, and I find it saddening that she had to die to be able to break away from it all find a glimpse of peace in her life. Wait, I won't say it again, but I needed to make a point. Wanko is crucial to the story as the normal girl Rea is not. Wanko loves Chihiro, and she can sure make babies with him, and her openness and glomping and what not is very much what Rea cannot do.

As far we know, Rea can't make babies anymore. However, maybe Chihiro eventually find a cure that will restore either some, or all of Rea's original bodily functions. Heck, maybe the zombification process can be reversed. Also, while our current knowledge of zombies tells us that they probably can't reproduce, I don't see why a (somewhat) different type of zombie behaves the same way. At the very least, one can hope, right? Plus, wasn't there a show in which zombie did give birth? I seem to have heard some people mention it to me a while ago, though I can't remember where or what the show was called if so..

Aha, poor girl as in what happened with that Dano fellow. I'd like to think that her meeting Chihiro was the start of her new life, not when she became a zombie. So I consider her a rather lucky girl, to some degree anyways, there's never anything lucky about dying

And Wanko may love Chihiro, but he definitely doesn't love her. He loves Rea and it's clear that she likes him as well. However, Rea is still unsure about her true feelings, and that is why Wanko seems to have the upper hand.

Yeah he doesn't love her, he didn't see it back when he was a kid too. But the point I'm trying to make here is that Wanko's childhood with Chihiro helped the both of them, as Wanko went from apprehensive of him to fully enjoying watching Zombie movies with him (which he also seemed to enjoy finally having a viewing buddy). The next stage for Chihiro is actually living with a zombie, as it seems he's graduated from watching zombie movies as I don't remember the last time he watched one (when making the potion?) Which is Rea's turn now, and not about Wanko having the upper hand, but Rea finally being Chihiro's ideal girl, and now it's their turn for the both of them to grow in this relationship together, just like how Wanko and Chihiro grew up to be who they are now.

Wanko will become pretty much obsolete as times goes by, when a different girl enters Chihiro's life, one that has far more insight on Rea's condition than he has (though her motivations are still a bit of a mystery, judging by the last [translated] chapter).

I can, especially if he (with or without help from others) can find a way to either preserve Rea's body for a very long time or even cure her. The anime doesn't give us much insight to Rea and Chihiro's relationship yet, but in the manga, it's gotten much further and (IMO), much more interesting. No, they're not lovers quite yet, but we have seen some crucial points that suggests that Chihiro isn't totally clueless and knows exactly what or rather, who) he wants (and not just for the obvious reasons). I hope that's not too spoilerish.

You might have noticed I've very much steered clear of mentioning the manga in this thread. The last time I looked at the TV guide, there isn't much episodes left, but I am hoping there's more, as I like that particular girl very very much and hope to discuss that when the bridge... crosses the water...er...

I'll make one thing clear, I'm sure Wanko could be a very nice character, she's just pushing all the wrong buttons for me, and I cannot see for the life of me how she would make a suitable partner for Chihiro (other than the fact that she is still alive and Rea is not).

There was one thing I wanted to tell you: You don't like Wanko because you like Rea. Can you envision liking Rea if Wanko wasn't around to push those buttons you just don't like?

Which is kinda like me, ja. I don't can't like loli's because I like booby neesans. Because I would rather live a happy life than go to jail, see? So in a way I don't like jail and love happy life, hm? (I think my brain froze for a minute there.....)

That's the one thing I still can't wrap my head around- the majority fan support for either the Sweet Girl or the Genki Girl seems to switch sides depending on the weather...

Well, Wanko and Aria have my full support I'm uncertain what their screen time will be from now on, but... if they end up unhappy, I'm always available

There's another thing I noticed though, most of the Megami/Nyantype have been Rea'ized, what gives? I know this series is Sankarea, but there could have at least been one with Aria-sama too, like a family portrait

But all in all, it was one of the better anime this season. It feels like it gets harder and harder to find a good anime to watch that doesn't have "Look, otaku bait!" written all over its face. *looks at very end's commercial for following anime" Like this... Ueeh...

I liked the Dad. But he doesn't have the physical appearance for me to have him as an avatar.

If there was two criticisms, one would be that since the manga hasn't ended, it is left pretty open, and another is that while the story tries to use Rea's zombie setting, it both contradicts itself at times (like the skin and blushing) and the use is a bit half-hearted.
Then again, it is not like scientists write these things, so you can't expect them to cover everything. Maybe.

The interesting thing about Sakarea is that even if the material later on are arguably the true focus of the story (well, along side the Romance), the first season is done so well that, unlike some other animes, I'd think the first season by itself is very strong, even if indeed, the closing scenes of Episode 12 implies the direction of the plot very strongly.

Episode 12

That was a really weird way of ending a series
The last few episodes had much slower pace with not much events happening. Liked the part where Wanko outright said she liked Chihiro to Rea and also in the process helped her giving confidence to do as much as possible in the time she has left. The art and lighting have been stunning throughout the series. The little fireworks scene was nice and then shots like this at the end.

That ending however pretty much confirms a second season. Just need to wait for an official announcement

In the finale episode

Days have past since Rea's dad let them go all good as usual oh fireworks event rea like to see. Cat hair boy bit worry keep rea safe and her body well all time. Then mero appear why rea keep in house give rea want go out more? Next day rain come no fireworks so next day here Wanko oh do home fireworks party.

Rea swept & broke boom here cat hair boy arrive do home fireworks with Wanko. Then Wanko arrive during which alone time and talking with Rea about Cat hair boy, zombie life, and rest. So home fireworks doing well with Babu goes down from sprial fireworks.

Next day rea arrive home get her stuff so she can go school and brief talk with step-mom. Rea & cat hair boy doing wonder to do then here come zombie bite kiss.

Indeed series quite good of sorts give likely a season 2 might happen and also looking forward to dub on it.

Life is back to "normal" as mush as it can be in her state.
Rea seems to be longing for the normal school life days a bit.
Their small fireworks festival was really nice ^^
So she got her wish to attend school again, Furuya sure is lenient towards her.
That attack/kiss was something I half expected, but maybe not that aggressive.
This sure was a relaxed final episode.

Well, after it's all over and done with, really, the only thing I gotta say is that I think that Wanko is the most under-appreciated character in this anime, not only by the audience at large, but particularly by cat-boy. She's definitely my favorite character in the anime, and feels so much more alive than anyone else. The only other person in the anime that even comes close to having as much character as her is Sanka-dad (the scale does swing both ways). Cat-boy, sister, Buddha-dad, and Rea, they all seem so bland and lifeless. Crazy Grampa, when the moments prevail, shows more liveliness than all of them put together, and even Sanka-step-mom has more character, and shows more emotion.

I doubt I'll be watching this anime again, though I will probably sit through a second season, if there is one, and I will suffer through at least one more chapter of the manga after an English version is available. My predominant reason for watching or reading won't be the title character, or the not so bright cat-boy, but will be so that I might get to see Wanko in action again.

The number one problem for Rea is the issue of her body decaying. Really, if her flesh turns green and starts flaking off, and she starts stinkin' up the house, will cat-boy really still be interested in her? However, if she were to lose it and try to feast on people (other than cat-boy), that would be a problem, not for her, but for everyone else. A zombie not wanting to feast on human flesh would be something akin to a lion not wanting to feast on antelopes or gazelles, but munch on scrub grass instead, like she does with hydrangea leaves. At least that's what we have been led to believe by popular legends (zombies don't exist in the real world).
