I don't know, but Black Lagoon and Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom has what you need, I think...

I'll look into it, but for now that's all I can think of at the moment.

Somebody had it in Samurai 7. It was very annoying.

Rock's recruitment into the Lagoon Company in Black Lagoon definitely fits.

I suspect something akin to Stockholm Syndrome might come up in Monster, but it's been a while since I last watched it.

I was going to watch Samurai 7 eventually, I'll give it a try after I'm done finishing up some other anime series
